Synopsis
The light of the fireplace cast long shadows on the wall, the fire reflected in the eyes of the woman sitting on the couch with a blanket over her shoulders. She had a bittersweet smile on her face as her mind traveled to the past days, nights long passed, nights she shared with her family when she was a kid. Memories she hoped to bring alive if possible. First story: a story adaptation of a popular folklore in Nigeria; The Princess and the half man; She had sworn on her mother's grave never to be blinded by emotions. But It'd seem she took after her mom in that aspect after all. Throwing all caution to the wind just for a man. She had thought she was different from the rest, leave it to reality to smack her back to her senses. Her feelings for her dad was complicated, she could say she hated him, but that was not quite true, no matter what, he was still her father. The one who pampers and gives in to her every whim. She knew it was partly guilt and the fact she was his only daughter out of a battalion of boys that contributed to his attitude towards her. But so what, she didn't care much for affection, all she had cared for was getting what she wanted, and that had been true about her, until now. Authors note: As a kid my dad will always sit us down at night, outside, in the darkness and tell us the most delightful stories of kingdoms long passed, Princesses and princes, magical creatures, much to the delight of us kids. But there's not much of that nowadays. So I want to share these delightful stories with everyone and I hope by doing this, these stories will not get lost in the sands of time. Thank you, have a nice read.

Chapter 1 - prologue

'Grandma! Grandma!' the kids yelled as they ran around an old woman sitting on a rocking chair. The old woman in question frowned as she awoke from her daze, the haze clearing from her eyes as she refocused her gaze on her lovely grandkids. She smiled in satisfaction as she appraised her little ones.

'Jason, Lisa where are your parents

'Grandma, they went upstairs' little Lisa answered, the little girl puckered her lips trying and succeeding in looking cute. Watching her grandma's eyes soften she ran over to her and climbed on her chair to sit on her lap.

Not to be outdone little Nate followed by the older brother Jason ran to either side of her and hung on either side of her arm like little monkeys.

Both exasperated and amused by the little monkeys she pretended to wince in pain. ' Ouch! little monkeys, if you continue pulling you'll soon render grandma armless, you wouldn't want that now, would you?'

'No grandma!!' thundered the little ones but they still hung on.

'Nate! Jason! Release your grandma!' her eldest daughter and her husband thundered as they marched down the stairs.

'But mom ' 'But aunt ' cried Jason and Nate

'what trouble have those mischievous imps gotten into now' Nate's mom followed with baby Nelly on her arm, with her husband my son hot on her Heel.

She winked at the adults soon filling up the room. Her daughter and son cut up with her signal and rolled their eyes complaining at her playfulness and tapped their respective partner and winked at them.

'Ouch! Little babies, what can grandma do to get you to release her' she faked while the adults in the adults hid their smiles.

The three imps shared a look and smiled at the victory at hand. ' Grandma, you will only be released on the condition you tell us a story' Jason the chosen representative asserted with a tilt of his proud little head.

'Oh, what to do! The babies have won! I can't bear the pain, Grandma surrenders ' the little ones immediately jumped down and looking a tad bit guilty sat in front of her on the floor.

'Grandma are you hurt?' little Nate and Jason asked feeling guilty as little Lisa blew on both arms to supposedly chase the pain away.

Her daughter-in-law dragged out a mat and lay on the floor while her daughter lay a duvet on top, as their husbands dragged their respective sons by the ear. ' Now what do we say when we do something bad.'

'ouch! we say sorry!!' Little Nate and Jason almost in tears chorused

'Now say sorry to grandma.' Her daughter-in-law in law Lana said as the women rescued their respective sons from their husband's clutches.

'We're sorry grandma!!' the little monkeys chorused as they ran over to their grandma acting cute, She rubbed their head and told them to sit as her gaze caught her amused husband who was coming down the stairs. He made a beeline for his wife not bothering to ask what the ruckus was about already used to their antics and gave her a kiss on her forehead. She smiled at him as he sat on a chair close to her.

'it seems I've missed a lot.'

'Not really grandpa, grandma was just about to tell us a story' Nate replied cheekily before he was dragged to sit on the duvet-covered floor by his mother.

'oh was she? I do miss your stories hunny.' Her immature children rolled their eyes with mock disgust while their respective partners smiled in fondness at the old couple.

She smiled. 'This reminds me of an old story my dad used to tell us when we were kids, about the a half-man who tricked a princess into marriage.' Her eyes glazed over as she was submerged in her memories, the fond smile on her lips gave away how dear those memories were to her.
