Synopsis
In the year 3217, Earth has fallen under the domination of the Xytherians, a terrifying alien species that has enslaved humanity. The once-thriving planet is now a dystopian wasteland where humans are reduced to nothing more than cattle, bred for food and labor. The Xytherians, towering over 12 feet with immense strength and impenetrable defenses, treat humans as expendable resources. Earth’s population has plummeted from 24 billion to a mere 2 billion, and survival is a daily struggle for the remaining survivors. Luther Grey, a 22-year-old human, lives a nightmarish existence in one of the Xytherians' feeding centers. Here, human slaves are slaughtered and consumed by the alien children, creatures with voracious appetites. The pain is indescribable, and Luther’s life seems destined to end in the same horrific manner. He is small and weak, only a tool for the Xytherians to exploit. Yet, despite his fragile body, Luther harbors an unbreakable will to survive, and in his darkest moments, a small flame of hope burns within him. As Luther’s time draws near and the alien children close in to feast on him, fate takes a turn. A powerful meteorite crashes into the feeding center, obliterating everything in its path. The explosion destroys the Xytherians’ structure, killing most of the invaders. In the wreckage, Luther survives, gravely injured but alive. In the aftermath, Luther encounters an ancient being named Meta, an entity once created by the Xytherians to serve them. Meta offers Luther a chance at vengeance and survival, granting him the ability to harness the soul-extraction system of the Xytherians. Through this system, Luther can gain power by consuming the bodies of the dead and absorbing their essence. Though revolted by the process, Luther realizes it is the only way to grow stronger and ultimately seek revenge on the alien invaders. With his newfound power and Meta’s guidance, Luther embarks on a journey of vengeance. His weapon, a shadowy scythe, symbolizes his transformation into a soul reaper. The more Xytherians he kills, the stronger he becomes, leveling up and gaining abilities that were once beyond his imagination. However, as he feeds on the souls of his enemies, Luther struggles with the moral cost of his actions. Each kill feeds his power but erodes his humanity. Luther’s path leads him to confront the very darkness he is becoming, questioning whether his thirst for vengeance is worth the price he’s paying. As he battles the remaining Xytherians, Luther must decide whether he will become a monster in the process or retain his humanity in the face of overwhelming power. The Dark World's Dawn is a tale of survival, vengeance, and the cost of power, as Luther Grey rises from the ashes of Earth to challenge the alien overlords and reclaim his world.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1. The Terror.

Year 3217

All humans have now completely become the slaves of an unknown alien species. The humans are treated as nothing but garbage.

This is the story of one of the human slaves, Luther Grey, who wants to gain freedom for himself and for someone else.

"Move in the line, you damn slaves," said one of the aliens. They were transporting the male humans to the feeding area, where the kids of those aliens would feed on them.

"I don't want to die, please spare me. I will do anything, just don't kill me," begged one of the slaves, but the aliens ignored him.

"It's pointless to beg. They are doing what we did to the animals. Before they arrived on Earth, we always kept birds in cages as pets, dogs on chains as pets, but we never thought about their freedom. We ate steak, pork chop, mutton, chicken for our own satisfaction but never thought about those animals. We constructed our homes, buildings, offices on the homes of other animals and never thought about them. We kept some in zoos and some in breeding centers, and now, when these aliens are doing the same with us, we all beg for our lives," an old man cried.

Luther was watching everything. He was in chains too. There was a warning a few days ago about a meteorite coming towards Earth.

All the slaves and animals arrived at the feeding center. The alien kids were waiting for them, and when they saw all those humans, they started drooling.

The size of the aliens was at least 12 feet on average. The kids were about 6'3 on average.

Luther was a skinny man, his height was only 5'8. He was 22 years old. He had white hair, red eyes, and fair skin.

Luther didn't want anything except freedom, and he just needed one opportunity. He was unable to create that opportunity, so the only choice he had was to wait for one to arrive. An alien's raw strength was greater than that of 10 wrestlers combined. They had extremely advanced technology.

When the aliens arrived on Earth, the population of Earth was 24 billion, but now only about 2 billion were left.

The aliens also created breeding centers for humans to get an infinite number of humans to feed their children. Luther was also born in one of those breeding centers.

All the women were kept in breeding centers, and every 2 years, all the remaining men were transported to the breeding center to breed with the women. Currently, only about 500 million men were alive and 1.5 billion women. But not all 500 million men and 1.5 billion women were adults.

On average, in breeding centers, a man has to breed with 3 women.

When Luther was 21, he was also transported to a breeding center, but he was so weak that he could only breed with 1 woman. After that, he collapsed. When he regained consciousness, the aliens showed him hell—continuous torture for 48 hours with no food or water. It was a miracle he survived.

All the slaves transported to the feeding center were useless to the aliens. They couldn't breed or help with labor.

Luther first realized that if he didn't escape now, his death would be painful, because those alien kids didn't eat humans in one go.

They tore them apart slowly, making them feel intense pain. Some humans died before being eaten because of the pain. Some vomited because of the way the alien kids ate them.

Right in front of him was hell. One by one, everyone was getting eaten. Just the sight of it made Luther piss himself.

No clothes were provided to the slaves. They were all naked. Only the women were given some clothes, but those clothes only covered their private parts. In cold weather, 80% of humans died from the cold.

The food humans were given was even worse. They were fed alien excrement and had to drink human blood.

Some 1000 years ago, every human would have thought that by the year 3217, humans would be the most advanced, but nobody could have predicted the current situation.

Luther saw something he had never seen before.

Whenever an alien child killed a human, they absorbed their soul and became larger and more powerful. It was the first time he saw an experience system.

It was now Luther's turn. An alien child grabbed Luther, and he felt immense pressure. Blood poured from his mouth, and some of his ribs broke.

But Luther didn't give up; he resisted. He wasn't going to give up until he died, but it looked like even after his death, he wouldn't give up.

Suddenly, the alien child tightened his grip, and most of Luther's bones broke. He was barely able to maintain consciousness now. The pain was the same as when he was tortured, maybe even worse.

He remembered the time when the aliens first came to Earth and how many soldiers tried to kill them, but they were invincible. Even the most advanced technology couldn't harm them. These aliens didn't come from any spaceship but rather fell to Earth, as if they had been floating in space and were pulled in by Earth's gravity.

But the one memory Luther cherished was the voice and face of the girl he had bred with. It was the kindest voice he had ever heard in his life—one which was more of a hell than a life for him.

Luther always cursed himself for being born human. The only thing Luther wanted to save was that girl—and himself.

Luther didn't know who his parents were or if they were alive, or even if he had any siblings.

The alien kid started tearing Luther's body apart. The alien kid first tore off Luther's left leg, and Luther's body became numb from the pain. He could no longer hear anything, his eyesight blurred, his body stopped moving, and his sensory organs ceased to work. He couldn't feel anything anymore.

Luther finally gave up resisting, but inside, he wanted to live. He wanted to resist. He just wanted to see her one last time.

The alien kid placed Luther into its mouth and was about to chew him. But before it could, something fell on the feeding center—something small but destructive that killed nearly everything in the feeding center.

The feeding center, which was the size of a king's palace, was destroyed in the blink of an eye.

Something fell from the sky at extremely high speed—a 2-meter-diameter meteorite. The impact was so powerful that it destroyed everything, nearly killing everyone. Nearly every alien present there died, and except for Luther, who was in very bad condition, every slave who was alive perished.

Because of the heat produced by the meteorite, Luther regained consciousness. When he opened his eyes, he saw dozens of dead bodies—both alien and human. All the adult aliens had died, and only 4-5 alien kids and Luther were left alive.

Luther didn't have his left leg. In front of him was some sort of battery-like object, but it looked more like an injection. Luther, now unable to endure the pain, wanted to die.

He took the injection and injected it into his forehead. As the syringe pierced his mind, he felt a great shock. It was as if his pain was intensifying, and he wasn't dying.

Then something appeared before Luther— a small creature that looked like a centipede, but a bit different. The creature resembled an extinct being, Arthropleura.

Arthropleura: Although it's related to centipedes, Arthropleura was a type of millipede, not a centipede. Millipedes belong to the class Diplopoda, whereas centipedes belong to the class Chilopoda. As a millipede, Arthropleura had two pairs of legs per body segment. This gave it a much more robust, multiple-legged appearance suited to slow movement across the forest floor.

The tiny Arthropleura climbed onto Luther's shoulder and spoke in his language, "I never thought a human would be able to use my abilities."

Luther, in pain, asked, "Who the fuck are you?"

The Arthropleura replied, "You humans really deserve the destruction you're facing. I am Meta, a being designed by a great scientist. The alien species who attacked you are known as Xytherians, and the scientist who created me was also one of the Xytherians."

"What the fuck do you want from me?" Luther asked Meta.

Meta responded, "You summoned me. I don't want anything from you, but you want something from me—the experience system. I will give you the power through which Xytherians extract the souls of those they kill in the form of EXP. But I think, for humans, it would be a slightly different way of getting EXP."

"What EXP system? Are you going to perform some experiment on me?" Luther asked, in pain.

Meta explained, "Let me tell you the basics. As I said, I am Meta. The injection you took was known as The Mutation. It created a mutation inside your body through which you can now kill the invincible Xytherians. You will also receive their souls in the form of EXP, and by leveling up, you can heal all your injuries.

The more you level up, the stronger you get. If you truly want to save yourself—and yes, the one you always think about—this is the only way to save them and yourself. And yeah, don't ask me how I know about the one you always think about because I am connected to your brain, so whatever you think, it's transported to me."

Luther was in pain but understood everything. He asked, "How can I extract the soul?"

Meta responded, "For a human to extract souls as EXP, it's a bit different. You know it's disgusting, but if you truly want to save yourself and your loved ones, this is the only way. Eat them. The dead bodies and the ones you kill from now on—you have to eat them, every part of their body. Don't worry, you can skip the male genitalia. It doesn't matter how disgusting it seems to you, but for a human to gain EXP, this is the only way."

Just hearing it, Luther vomited.

Meta said, "Yuck! You're puking just by thinking about it."

Meta became serious, "Listen, human, if you really want to save yourself, then do it. If you want to see her, do it. There are dozens of dead bodies, go eat them. And yeah, one more thing: you'll get more EXP if you eat alien dead bodies. The adults will give you tons of EXP as they have more mass. Humans will give you little.

Luther, still struggling to prevent the gravity of the situation, could barely hear Meta's words as his pain overwhelmed him. The sense of urgency, however, pierced through his exhaustion. His thoughts flickered between his painful present and the girl he always remembered. He couldn't die here. Not now, not before he had a chance to save her, and himself.

Meta's voice echoed in his mind. "Listen, if you want to survive, you have to eat them. You have no other choice. The more you hesitate, the more time you waste. Your enemies are already coming."

Luther gritted his teeth, summoning every ounce of willpower he had left. He could feel his broken body, the searing pain in every part of him, but he refused to give in. His desire for survival, for vengeance, and for the girl he loved was greater than anything.

With trembling hands, he reached toward the nearest corpse — an alien that had once been a terror — and began to feast. The disgust, the nausea, the guilt, all crashed over him, but he pushed through it. The moment his teeth sank into the alien's flesh, he felt a strange surge within him. It wasn't just the nourishment that filled him, but something else, something darker, stronger. A power coursed through him.

The taste was unbearable, worse than anything he had ever imagined. It was foul, like something rotten that had been preserved for a million years. It tasted like death itself, a rancid combination of decayed flesh and a sickly, metallic aftertaste that clung to his tongue. Luther could barely hold himself together as the flavor hit him, each bite more disgusting than the last. It was as if every cell in his body screamed in protest, but still, he forced himself to continue. He had no choice. This was the only way.

But as he swallowed the alien's essence, something strange began to happen. Despite the revolting taste, a new strength surged through him. It wasn't just physical power — it was something deeper, a dark energy that resonated in his very bones. His muscles twitched, healing rapidly. His broken limbs mended, and his body began to glow faintly with a red aura.

Meta's voice echoed in his mind, cutting through the haze of disgust. "That's it. Keep eating. You need to absorb more. The power of these aliens is what will make you strong enough to survive. The taste might disgust you, but it's the only way."

Luther's vision cleared as the power flooded his senses. He could feel his body mending, muscles swelling, his bones mending in an unnatural way. His speed, his strength, even his reflexes were on an entirely new scale now. But there was more to it. Something in his mind was changing as well.

"You're stronger now," Meta continued, his voice laced with a sinister edge. "You're not the same as before. You've leveled up more than you ever could have imagined. You've unlocked a new tier of power."

Luther was still in awe of the transformation. His broken leg had healed, his energy was surging, and he was no longer the same. His mind flickered back to the girl he had always think about, and he could feel the overwhelming need to protect her. To grow stronger.

But Meta wasn't done yet. "This is just the beginning, Luther. You'll need to eat more — absorb more. This is how you will become unstoppable. The more you feast, the more you ascend."

Luther's newfound confidence was rising as he stood. His body was no longer fragile. The dark energy that had always been a part of him was now much more tangible. Stronger. The taste of the alien bodies had a strange allure now, as if it was the only thing that could fill the hollow void of his past weakness.

He looked at the remaining Xytherian children.

They hadn't noticed him yet, but they would soon. The moment they realized he was no longer the broken boy they had once seen, they'd come at him with everything they had.

Meta's voice snapped him back to reality. "The others are coming. They'll be here soon. You need to be ready. Get your weapon, now."

A weapon? Luther scanned his surroundings, still shaking from the overwhelming sensation of power flooding his body. His eyes widened as he saw something in the distance: a massive scythe lying against the stone floor, glowing with dark energy.

It was perfect. He could feel the weapon calling to him, as though it was destined for his hands.

As Luther approached it, Meta's voice echoed one last time. "That scythe was made for you. It is an extension of your new power, your new form. It's time to use it."

Luther gripped the scythe, feeling its weight in his hands. A strange sense of connection coursed through him, as if the weapon was part of his very soul. With the scythe now in his grasp, he felt complete, his power magnified exponentially. His red eyes burned with intensity, his body thrumming with newfound energy.

Luther raised the scythe, testing its weight, its balance. He could feel the potency of it in every motion. It was more than just a tool. It was an instrument of destruction, and it was his.

"I am no longer just a human," Luther muttered under his breath, his voice cold and certain. "I am a Soul Reaper who will reap the souls of the invincible Xytherians and those who stand in my way."

With a confident roar, Luther charged at the last of the Xytherian children. The battle was short but intense. He moved with speed and precision, his new strength making short work of the alien. He slashed with the scythe, cutting through its defenses effortlessly. The taste of its flesh, the energy of its body, filled him once again, and with it, his strength grew even more.

"This is what you were born for," Meta said.

"You were meant to devour. To grow. And to become the strongest. Keep leveling up, keep devouring. The true fight is yet to come."

Luther stood over the last of the Xytherian children, his body glowing with power.

He was no longer the fragile boy who had been abandoned. He was a predator now, and the Xytherians were his prey.

His eyes narrowed. "Now... the real battle begins."
