Chapter 2 - Not Normal Again?

The scene in my room was one of dark chaos. The spider-like legs pierced through the roof, casting eerie shadows that enveloped the room. It was a nightmarish sight, and the darkness seemed to press in on me from all sides, intensifying my fear.

The goblin, with its malevolent grin and lifeless eyes, inched closer.

Grrrrr!

Its raspy, guttural voice filled my ears, sending shivers down my spine. My body quivered with dread as I could feel its hot, putrid breath on my face. The stench was overwhelming, a nauseating mix of decay and something more sinister.

My surroundings had become a hellscape, a distorted nightmare where reality had twisted into something unimaginable. I could see every detail of the goblin's grotesque features, and yet, everything else was a blur, a shadowy abyss that threatened to consume me.

As the goblin raised its weapon, I braced for the inevitable strike. "Mom... Emily... Lily..." I whispered, desperate for help that seemed impossibly far away.

'I am sorry Dad.'

I could only watch helplessly as the creature prepared to bring down its weapon.

And in that moment, I could hear the sound of something breaking.

I could hear the sound of my sanity.

And then, the scene went black.

[Another System has interfered with the process.]

— Hi, I am SystemInfinite, nice to meet you!

[Fuck off! He is mine. I found him first.]

— W-what? I just wanted to say hi.

[You have no rights here. Fuck off, or else I will erase your existence.]

— Ah, erase my existence? Huh? Do you think you have that power?

[Huh, what is happening?]

— Nothing. I am just erasing your existence, nothing big.

[SystemInfinite, you—]

Before the other System could say anything else, its existence was wiped out.

.

.

.

— Tch, I was so happy to see someone like me. I have traveled my universes and helped many reach the peak but I never was able to see someone like me. Now, that I did, that idiot just had to threaten me.

— Whatever, I should focus on this host.

Gradually, my senses began to return, and I felt a strange, comforting warmth enveloping my body. With a slow, deliberate blink, I opened my eyes, only to be met with an unusual sight – darkness.

Confusion gnawed at me as I instinctively raised my head. An unexpected scene unfolded before my eyes; my arms rested on the familiar desk in front of me. My eyelids blinked once, then twice, as I slowly absorbed my surroundings – my very own classroom.

Everything appeared precisely as it always had. It was as if time had stood still. Then, an inexplicable jolt coursed through my entire being, sending shockwaves through my core. My eyes widened, and I found myself frozen in disbelief, unable to grasp the reality of the situation.

"What?" I muttered, my voice trembling. My hands moved to my face, my fingers meeting the soft, living skin. The disbelief intensified, and my jaw dropped.

"It can't be. I am... Alive? But how?" My heart raced, and I could feel the pulsating rush of blood in my veins. I remained motionless, overwhelmed by the bewildering turn of events.

"Did I... Really die? And now, I've been brought back to life?" I scanned my surroundings once more. Every student in my class sat attentively, listening to the teacher and diligently working on their assignments. It was all so normal.

"Was everything just a dream?" I pondered, but quickly dismissed the idea. It couldn't have been a dream; it felt far too vivid. The pain, the fear, the sorrow, and the hopelessness were etched in my memory.

"Then, what on earth just happened?" My fingers ran through my hair, a futile attempt to steady my nerves. My body trembled, and my breaths grew erratic.

"No, it can't be," I whispered to myself, desperately trying to convince my racing mind that it had all been a dream.

"Dude, are you okay?" A familiar voice came from behind me, and a hand gripped my shoulder. I turned around to find...

"Jake?" I said, my voice cracking.

"Yeah, bro, what's wrong? You're sweating a lot, dude," Jake replied, looking at me with concern.

I couldn't help but feel a wave of relief wash over me. My best friend was there, sitting right beside me, just like he always had.

"I..." My voice trailed off. I didn't know what to say, or how to explain the inexplicable.

"Bro, are you feeling sick? Should I get you to the nurse?" Jake's eyes narrowed as he examined my face.

"No, I'm fine. I just had a bad dream." I managed to utter, my voice steadying. My heart still pounded in my chest, but I was starting to regain my composure and I forced a smile.

"I see. Well, if you're feeling better, then I'll leave you to it," Jake patted my shoulder and smiled before turning back to his work.

I looked around the classroom once more, a strange sense of detachment washing over me. My eyes drifted toward the window, and I was greeted by a beautiful view of the blue sky.

'It's a nice day out today,' I thought to myself. The sun shone brightly, its warm rays dancing upon the verdant foliage. A gentle breeze caressed the leaves, causing them to sway in a mesmerizing rhythm.

The world seemed peaceful and serene, and I felt a calming peace envelop me.

"It was just a dream, wasn't it?" I murmured softly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of my lips.

Just as I was starting to feel better, a strange, unfamiliar voice suddenly resounded in my head,

[It wasn't a dream. It was real.]

The voice was calm and soothing, yet at the same time, there was an air of authority and finality to it. It was as if it were speaking directly into my mind, bypassing my ears entirely.

My eyes widened, and a jolt of panic coursed through my body.

I looked around the classroom frantically, searching for the source of the voice, thinking that it must be some sort of prank. But, nobody was laughing. In fact, everyone seemed oblivious to the voice.

Then I looked behind, at Jake, but he just continued to work on his assignment, showing no signs of hearing the voice.

It wasn't him too. It was just...

'Me?' I thought to myself.

[Yeah, it's me.]

The voice responded, confirming my suspicions.

I stared at my palms, perplexed.

Fuck!

It looks like it is inside my mind.

[Yes and No.]

This time it's confirmation sent a shiver down my spine.

"W-who are you? How did you get in my mind?" I stammered.

It couldn't be...

It just couldn't be...

It just couldn't be, right?

That was too ridiculous.

"Are you a... Demon?" I whispered.

Suddenly, a cacophony of laughter resounded in my head. It was a strange, distorted sound as if a hundred people were laughing simultaneously.

[A demon? Do I really sound like a demon?] the voice spoke, the amusement clear in its tone.

"N-no, I just..." My words were cut short, my voice trailing off.

'What the hell was happening?'

[Relax. I am not a demon. In fact, I am not a living being, to begin with,] the voice replied, its tone calming.

"Then, what are you? What do you want from me?" I asked, still not fully comprehending the situation.

[I am a system. More specifically, the system that has revived you,] the voice spoke, its words resonating deep within me.

'What the f*ck! I don't understand anything.'

"A system?" I echoed, confused.

A system huh? Now I am sure that someone is playing a prank on me.

The system is just a fictional thing.

Even in novels, they are used as a gimmick to make the MC OP.

And even then, most of the times, they are not even that powerful.

Forget about making the MC OP, the MCs can even die.

I know, I have read many novels.

And, now it's happening to me?

What the f*ck?

Is this a joke?

If it is, then it's not funny at all.

It is going a bit too far.

If just I can block my ears then maybe the voice will go away.

I pressed my hands on my ears and closed my eyes.

'Go away, go away, go away...'

But the voice persisted, its words penetrating my consciousness despite my attempts to silence it.

[What are you doing? It won't do a jacksh*t. I am inside your head, you know?] the voice spoke, the amusement returning to its tone.

'Whatever, just go away!'

[OK, if you don't believe me then I will give you proof. Open your eyes slowly. And remember, don't jump!]

Wait... What if the voice is telling the truth?

No, no, no, it can't be true.

It just can't.

But...

Just for the sake of knowing the truth, I decided to open my eyes.

As my eyelids fluttered open, a scene unfolded before me that I would never have imagined possible.

Words and numbers floated in the air, their forms shifting and changing. It was as if a screen from a manga had come to life, hovering right in front of me.

'WHAT THE F*CK?'

[Now don't jump or else—]

I instinctively stood up in a panic, knocking over the chair in the process.

The noise alerted the other students, and they all turned to look at me, confusion and concern painted on their faces.

"What the hell, man?" Jake muttered, staring at me incredulously.

"Do you want to solve this question?" The teacher approached, her eyes narrowed.

'S-sh*t.'
