Chapter 20 - Pragmatists Are the True Heroes

"Captain Carl, what do you mean by that?" The Liewa chieftain's face changed.

"What do I mean? Can't you Liewa chieftain understand?"

"Although our Silvermane Tribe's former chieftain unfortunately died in battle, we are not a target for a few small tribes to covet."

"I am here for only one thing, and that is to give you a chance!"

"To submit to our Silvermane Tribe!"

Captain Carl glanced at the Liewa chieftain indifferently.

A small tribe with just a few hundred people, yet they dare to covet their tribe, it's simply courting death.

He was here on the orders of the two commanders to warn the Liewa tribe.

"Humph, submit to you? You, a mere deputy captain, are being far too arrogant!"

The Liewa chieftain's face looked very ugly.

He had been the chieftain for so many years, naturally possessing the dignity befitting a chieftain.

This deputy captain from the Silvermane Tribe was making threats without a second thought.

He didn't take the Liewa tribe seriously at all.

"Binbasulun, you must think clearly about the price of opposing our Silvermane Tribe. For a small tribe like yours, if we wish, we could make Liewa a part of the grasslands' history within a single day."

Captain Carl looked coldly at the furious Liewa chieftain.

The Liewa chieftain's anger was about to burst forth from his seat.

"Father!"

Thadon quickly called out to his father, who was about to lose his temper.

The Liewa chieftain glanced at his son, and Thadon signaled for his father to calm down first.

Captain Carl glanced at Thadon, then continued to stare at the Liewa chieftain, "Moreover, I am here to offer you a chance. Your tribe is on the brink of starvation. If you submit to our tribe, we can guarantee that not a single one of your people will starve."

"Additionally, if you submit voluntarily, our chieftain will preserve the special status of your chieftain's family."

"This is a rare opportunity!"

"Otherwise, our chieftain will never nurture a threat, waiting for your alliance to be formed."

The Liewa chieftain and his son Thadon exchanged glances, both looking quite grim; this was an outright threat.

The implication was clear: if they did not submit, the Silvermane Tribe would send troops to attack them!

"Furthermore, your so-called alliance is nothing but being used as pawns. The Luochuan tribe has been coveting our Silvermane Tribe for years. They are merely using you to weaken the strength of our Silvermane Tribe. Once their goal is achieved, they will annex Silvermane. But do you really think that after they annex Silvermane, they won't annex your small tribes whose strength has been greatly diminished?"

"To put it another way, do you really think they will give you ten thousand catties of grain after the job is done?"

"According to our intelligence, the Luochuan tribe's food supply for their people has been drastically reduced; do they even have grain to give you?"

"We have given you the opportunity. Choose to submit or oppose us; the decision is yours. I will wait here for your response."

Captain Carl sneered at the Liewa chieftain, then turned and left.

After taking just a few steps, Carl's voice came again: "Oh, and by the way, our tribes are only about ten miles apart. If you choose wrongly, perhaps after today, the Liewa tribe will become history!"

"Hahaha..."

Carl laughed twice, then disappeared through the doorway.

"D*mn it, the Silvermane Tribe is just too arrogant!!!"

The Liewa chieftain, Binbasulun, jumped up from his seat, roaring in anger.

Compared to his father's rage, Thadon sat in his seat, feeling somewhat helpless.

This was the domineering nature of a larger tribe!

They threatened you outright!

Moreover, they made you incapable of even thinking about resisting because they were simply not someone you could fight against.

Their Liewa tribe, originally with over a hundred warriors, had lost more than thirty in the royal court's conscription, now barely exceeding a hundred.

With so few warriors, how could they resist the Silvermane Tribe, which had five to six hundred warriors?

The room was extremely quiet, so much so that one could hear a pin drop.

After a long while, the Liewa chieftain also calmed down. He was not a fool; although he felt aggrieved, when comparing the two sides, the Liewa tribe had no power to resist.

"What to do?" the Liewa chieftain asked.

"Father, submit to the Silvermane Tribe," Thadon's voice faintly rang out.

"You..." Binbasulun was about to flare up again; his son was not even considering a proper resistance, so easily choosing to surrender.

"Father, the gap between us and them is too great; there's no need for futile sacrifice. Since the Liewa tribe never had a chance to survive this famine, it's better to submit to the Silvermane Tribe than to let our people slowly starve and become refugees."

"Moreover, we still have our families. Although I'm not afraid of death, I don't want to die without value." Thadon spoke indifferently.

Since resistance was impossible, there was no need to make futile sacrifices for a battle with no chance of turning the tide.

Binbasulun looked at his son and sighed; indeed, if they couldn't win, then perhaps they shouldn't fight.

After all, being a chieftain was truly tiring.

"Send someone to bring Captain Carl over!"

"Yes, sir!"

...

Silvermane Tribe!

In the military camp, Corvinus was watching the werewolf warriors train.

The camp was not large, after all, there were only over six hundred warriors.

The training was very basic, nothing more than military formations or individual strength training, but even though it was basic, it was quite entertaining to watch.

After all, seeing werewolf warriors lifting four to five hundred-pound stones and sprinting five hundred meters was quite amusing to Corvinus.

"Continue with your training, I'm going to check out the cavalry training ground," Corvinus said to the two commanders.

"Yes, sir!"

Kro and Baggin, the two commanders, nodded and watched Corvinus leave.

"Kro, it seems you've made up your mind to follow this chieftain," Baggin said, looking at Corvinus's retreating back and asking with a smile.

He and Kro had been friends for over a decade and were close enough to talk about anything. Ever since Corvinus took office, Kro had become increasingly like a sycophant.

Just the other day, Reynold invited him and Kro.

Kro actually refused!

"He has great ambitions and his own way of thinking. He's been in office for only half a month, yet he's already making big moves one after another."

"I look forward to the future of the tribe under his rule," Kro said indifferently.

"Really? You think so highly of him, but I think he makes managing a tribe seem too simple!" Baggin shook his head.

Corvinus, this new chieftain, he didn't object to the land clearing or expanding the animal pens, but he was against the tribe expanding before it was stable.

Moreover, he could sense that this young chieftain was full of aggression and ambition.

This made him very uncomfortable.

Because he felt that a tribe ruled by such a chieftain would not have a good future.

"Whatever, I recognize him, and everyone has their own method of managing a tribe. I don't think he's wrong."

"And Baggin, you'd better have less to do with Reynold. I don't want you, as my partner, to miss the chance to lead troops into battle and end up a farmer when Silvermane rises."

"Being a farmer is pretty good too!" Baggin laughed.

"Is that so?"

"You're right, when I come back from fighting in the future, eating the vegetables you grow would be quite enjoyable."

"Hahaha..."

...

Cavalry Training Ground!

As a cavalry training ground, it was five to six times larger than the infantry training ground.
