Chapter 11 - The Dragon Rat Breeding Method

Fenrir, the war wolf, walked up to Corvinus and slowly sat down, looking at him.

The werewolf hadn't deceived him; after coming here, they didn't have to face threats from other magical beasts, nor did they have to hunt.

Although eating the same kind of meat every day annoyed it, life was still very comfortable.

"It seems your injury has healed almost completely," Corvinus said, looking at Fenrir's wounded abdomen, noticing that the previously bloody wound had completely disappeared, indicating it had fully healed.

Of course, this was normal; Fenrir was a quasi-fourth-tier magical beast, and minor injuries were nothing to it, especially with the recovery speed of a fourth-tier magical beast, which could fully recover from such minor injuries in ten days to half a month.

"Aren't you trying to become my contracted magical beast?"

"If you can reach the sixth tier, I will agree to make you my contracted magical beast," Corvinus said, looking at Fenrir's gaze fixed on him, with a smile.

He felt Fenrir was not ordinary because he could sense that Fenrir's intelligence was much higher than other war wolves, and it seemed to have become a quasi-fourth-tier magical beast in just a few days.

Especially since this guy had improved its strength even while recovering from an injury.

It was not easy for magical beasts to enhance their strength, but they had long lifespans, which allowed them the time to grow stronger.

Rumors on the mainland stated that, aside from the dragon clan and some near-divine magical beast races, most legendary magical beasts were at least five hundred years old.

Although intelligent legendary beings could live to five hundred, it was not the same concept because ninety-nine percent of intelligent legendary beings broke through to legendary status before the age of a hundred. Generally, a tenth-tier strong individual who hadn't broken through to legendary status by the age of a hundred likely had exhausted their talent.

Even the long-lived races, such as the elves, were no exception.

Of course, this was the natural state, as there were deities in this world, and the probability of non-natural occurrences was quite high.

Especially on the mainland, almost every year there were so-called divine miracles born, and if one could obtain these miracles, it was very normal to soar to great heights.

Corvinus stared at Fenrir, waiting for its response, but after about ten seconds of staring at Corvinus, Fenrir got up and turned away.

Corvinus was somewhat bewildered.

This guy seemed not to appreciate his offer.

Kordiak, standing nearby, was also confused. He was surprised that the chieftain wanted to take this war wolf as a contracted magical beast, but Fenrir's departure surprised him as well.

"This alpha wolf is very intelligent, but getting it to the sixth tier might not be easy," Kordiak glanced at Corvinus and said cautiously.

He was indeed astonished by Fenrir's intelligence because he sensed from Fenrir's eyes that it was not just a fourth-tier war wolf but an intelligent being.

Although amazed by its intelligence, the chance of this quasi-fourth-tier war wolf reaching the sixth tier was probably only one percent.

Every time a magical beast advanced a tier, it required time to wear down.

"I value its intelligence, and as for whether it can reach the sixth tier, that's up to its luck," Corvinus said with a smile.

Fenrir's departure caused more than half of the war wolves to leave.

Although Fenrir didn't give him face, Corvinus didn't mind.

If it could reach the sixth tier in a short time, it would prove itself worthy of being his contracted magical beast; if not, there was nothing to regret.

After all, high-tier magical beasts were likely abundant in the Blackwind Mountains.

Once his strength grew, finding a good contracted magical beast would be easy.

"By the way, I heard that since Fenrir and the others arrived, the supply of dragon rats has been insufficient?" Corvinus turned and asked.

Kordiak spoke a few words to his contracted magical beast, the fourth-tier war wolf, which then led the pack away.

"Yes, but Chieftain, rest assured, I have already started expanding the dragon rat breeding farm, and it will return to normal in a month or two," Kordiak was startled upon hearing this, could this be the real reason for the chieftain's visit.

"What about the war wolves' food supply for these two months?" Corvinus glanced at Kordiak and asked.

"This..."

"The suggestion from the two commanders is to appropriately reduce the food supply for each war wolf," Kordiak hesitated for a moment, then said with a stiff upper lip.

"If we do this, will there be problems with the war wolf pack?"

Suddenly, Kordiak's expression began to show signs of panic. Listening to the chieftain's words, it seemed like an accusation.

"You don't need to be nervous, I'm not here to blame you. As the manager of the animal pens and a beast tamer, I want to know, if we follow the commanders' approach, will there be problems with the war wolves?" Corvinus patted Kordiak on the shoulder and asked in a soft voice.

"Answer from your beast tamer perspective!"

Kordiak was taken aback, but seeing Corvinus's amiable smile, he instantly relaxed.

"Chieftain, there will definitely be some issues with the war wolves."

War wolves were not ordinary beasts; they were intelligent. If their rations were suddenly reduced, would they agree?

"But right now, the supply of dragon rats can't keep up, and there are no other meats to replace them. Even if there will be problems, we have no choice but to do this now."

"I understand!" Corvinus nodded.

This was the helplessness of poverty. The tribe couldn't even afford meat for the werewolves; reducing the food for the war wolves seemed to be the only decision.

"Then do as the two commanders suggest, but make sure to communicate clearly with the war wolves."

"Yes, Chieftain, rest assured, I am already doing that," Kordiak nodded.

"Let's go, take me to the dragon rat breeding farm," Corvinus patted Kordiak and said.

Dragon Rat Breeding Farm?

Kordiak was surprised. What was there to see in the dragon rats?

However, since the chieftain had spoken, Kordiak respectfully led the way.

A few minutes later, Kordiak brought Corvinus to the dragon rat breeding farm.

As soon as Corvinus arrived at the dragon rat breeding farm, the air around him became somewhat foul.

"Is this the dragon rat breeding?" Corvinus looked at the large pit over four hundred square meters in front of him and asked curiously.

"This is pit number one, and it contains about four thousand dragon rats."

"Four thousand?" Corvinus was astonished.

How could there be four thousand dragon rats in this pit, which was over four hundred square meters?

Perhaps seeing Corvinus's confusion, Kordiak smiled and said, "Chieftain, don't be fooled by the size of this pit. It's at least ten meters deep below, with about sixteen levels, so even with four thousand dragon rats, there's enough space for them to move around."

"About sixteen levels?" Corvinus was surprised; it turned out there were basements.

"Although dragon rats are not magical beasts, they are very good at digging holes, so the breeding pits, below and around, are built with huge stones to prevent the rats from digging their way out."

"Then every half meter, we use black fir trees to separate them. In a pit that's over ten meters deep, there are about fifteen or sixteen levels," Kordiak explained.

"I see!" Corvinus suddenly realized and also admired Kordiak and his team for coming up with such a method for breeding.

It was incredibly space-saving!
