"What in the world is this thing?" Caelus muttered as he yanked off the blanket, revealing something that made his brain short-circuit. His hands froze mid-air, his eyes wide in disbelief. "What the... why am I a guy?!"
...
A usual boring day. I woke up, got ready, and went to school. My name is Hwa Young, and I'm definitely not a scholar student. To be real, I'm someone who just barely manages to pass. But who cares about that? My true love is web novels. Reading them, writing them—it's my whole world! In fact, I can't wait to get home today and update the next chapter of my novel.
"Thwack!"
"Wha—?!"
"Stop talking to yourself all day. The teacher's about to arrive," Kyung Mi scolded me, her usual glare sharp as ever.
"I was just talking to myself! What's your problem, girl?" I shot back, rubbing the back of my head.
She didn't answer, just glared at me harder. Kyung Mi—just as beautiful as her name suggested, an "Honourable Beauty." And me? I was hopelessly in awe of her. How could I not be? She's pretty, smart, and somehow my best friend. Honestly, I think I might have bewitched her into sticking with me because, let's face it, I'm just not that special. Maybe it's my charming aura. Yeah, let's go with that.
...
"Hwa Young, get up. Let's go to my place today. We've got that horror movie marathon, remember?" Kyung Mi grinned at me, her bag slung over her shoulder.
"Yeah, of course! Just give me a sec," I said, shoving the last of my stuff into my bag. We walked out of the school together, laughing about some silly thing she said. It was just another ordinary day…
Or so I thought.
...
"HWA YOUNG!!"
"...What just happened?" I whispered, my head spinning. I opened my eyes, and the world swam before me. A dull, throbbing pain hammered at the back of my head. Slowly, I reached up to touch it, only to feel warm, sticky blood oozing from what could only be a massive wound.
Was I really dying? Is it how my life will end? Is this really it? Is this how everything ends for me?...Wait I didn't get to say goodbye.
"Hwa Young don't worry! You are not going to die! I'll not let that happen!" She sobbed, frantically looking around and yelling for someone to call an ambulance. She knelt beside me, holding my hand tightly.
I still remember the last time she cried was when her favourite character died in the web series we were watching.
I tried to smile for her.
"Kyung Mi...I wouldn't make it.."
"Though I wanted to say...I love you...please...don't ever forget me..."
"...good-bye"
Was this really it? Was this how my life ended? I thought about my pathetic little existence. No good grades, no social life, not even a single sports trophy. The only thing I ever excelled at was binge-reading web novels. What a joke.
Was it really the end of my pathetic life?
Well maybe it really was.
