Chapter 1 - Stranded and Snared

Shen Xinghui, 22 years old.

A fourth year university student and currently looking for a job.

His specialties?

He can staying calm under pressure, sleeping anywhere, and having no particular food preferences.

He was raised by his grandparents from kindergarten due to his father's neglect in their single-parent household.

At the same time, he lost his grandparents when he was 20.

He feels, in essence, like he's completely alone in the world.

Still, his grandparents were kind people who raised him with plenty of love.

In most aspects, Shen Xinghui is average.

His looks are decent—he wouldn't be called unattractive.

His academic abilities are also unremarkable.

He had a girlfriend once, back in his second year of high school, although it was a pure and innocent kind of relationship.

So, why is he reflecting on all of this now?

It's because he needs to remind himself who he is.

And why would he feel the need to do that?

Because the situation he's currently in is utterly nonsensical.

At present, Shen Xinghui finds himself deep in an unfamiliar forest and his ankle is ensnared by some vine-like plant he doesn't recognize.

He's hanging upside down, and the blood is starting to rush to his head.

Naturally, this raises a number of questions.

First: where the hell is this place?

It's not Earth, that's for sure.

After all, he lived in a city, and he'd never seen a forest like this before.

Not that he has any memory of being abducted, either.

Then there's this plant that was restraining him.

Is this even a plant that exists in his world?

If it is, then it owes him an explanation—including its name and classification.

Could this all be a dream?

He briefly entertained the thought, but the dull ache in his ankle suggested otherwise.

The pain he felt meant it wasn't a dream.

Nor was he dead.

After all, the pain doesn't exist in death.

Which led him to his next thought: if this isn't the world he knows, then perhaps this plant is some sort of monster.

And if that's the case, is it planning to eat him?

At 22 years of age, this felt like a tragically short lifespan.

Not that he had any lingering attachments or massive regrets.

However, still, meeting his end in some strange place and being devoured by an unknown plant?

That seemed like an exceptionally unlucky way to go.

"Oh no! If I die here, no one's even going to notice it!" he blurted out in a moment of panic.

No family, no job, no girlfriend, and now no grave.

What a cruel fate.

He could feel the resentment bubbling up inside him.

Suddenly, the vines tightened their grip around his thighs.

It seemed they had no intention of letting him go.

Shen Xinghui keep struggled, but the plant's incredible strength rendered his efforts useless.

Now it was wrapping around his arms and completely immobilizing him.

Was there any way out?

Maybe he could use words—shout something, even hurl insults.

"Mmph! Mmmphhh!"
