The Rise of Akin Lara
Page 1: Morning Dawn
The sun rose, casting a golden glow over the quiet neighborhood. Akin Lara, a determined young boy, knelt down to fasten his shoelaces. Today was the big day—tryouts for his high school cricket team. He dreamed of following in his father's footsteps to become a professional cricketer.
From upstairs, his father, the legendary Brian Lara, called out, "Akin, are you ready for school?"
"Yeah, I'll be down in a minute," Akin replied, excitement in his voice.
Moments later, Akin dashed down the stairs, grabbing his bag on the way. Brian, seated at the dining table, looked up at his son.
"Son, are you going to try out for the school cricket team?" Brian asked with a knowing smile.
"Yes, Father. I already signed up, and the tryouts are today," Akin replied, beaming.
Brian stood and placed a reassuring hand on his son's shoulder. "Don't try to become like me. Be the best version of yourself. Only then can you truly enjoy cricket."
Akin nodded earnestly. "Yes, Father. I'll try my best."
Brian glanced at his watch. "I won't be able to drop you off at school today. Charles will take you. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, I know. You've got a meeting to attend. I'll see you later," Akin said with understanding.
At the sound of the car horn, Charles, the family driver, called out, "You ready, sir?"
"Yeah, let's go," Akin responded as he headed to the car.
The drive took about twenty minutes, and soon they arrived at Bishop High School. Students turned their heads, gawking at the sleek black Lexus as Akin stepped out, his face lit with awe.
"Wow, so this is Bishop High. It's huge!" he said to himself.
Charles smiled. "Well, sir, I'll be taking my leave. Good luck today."
As Charles drove away, a friendly voice greeted Akin.
"Hi, I'm Ekon, your guide. Nice to meet you."
"I'm Akin. Nice to meet you too," Akin replied, shaking Ekon's hand.
Ekon grinned. "I know who you are already. You're Brian Lara's son. Let's be good friends."
Akin smiled modestly. "Yeah, let's."
Nearby, a group of girls whispered excitedly. "He seems nice. I bet he's just as good as his dad. Do you think we can be friends with him?"
However, not everyone was impressed. A boy named Garai frowned in the corner. "Watching everyone fawn over this guy just because of his father makes me sick."

Akin and Ekon walked through the bustling hallways toward their class.
"Hey, do you play cricket?" Akin asked eagerly.
Ekon laughed, scratching the back of his head. "Yeah, I'm actually on the team."
Akin's eyes lit up. "Wow! You must be really good."
"I'm just average," Ekon said humbly as they stopped outside a classroom. "This is your class. After this, join me for the tryouts."
"I promise I will," Akin said with determination.
After class, Akin joined Ekon and the rest of the team as the coach, Masaba, addressed him.
"You're Akin Lara, right? Did you fill out your application?" Coach Masaba asked.
"Yes, sir. I did," Akin replied confidently.
Coach Masaba smiled. "You're on the team. Meet your teammates: Sekani, Taba, Uzoma, and, of course, Ekon."
Before he could continue, Garai interrupted. "Wait, Coach! You can't be serious. This guy didn't even try out!"
Coach Masaba raised an eyebrow. "You want him to try out? Fine. Let's see what he's got."
Akin smirked. "Well, it'll be more fun this way. I got this."
The boys squared off on the pitch. Akin held the bat while Garai prepared to bowl.
Garai sneered. "I'm going to show you that hard work beats natural talent."
Coach Masaba declared, "All Akin has to do is hit a four or six to pass."
Garai thought to himself, This guy looks way too confident. I'll put him in his place.
"Bring it on!" Akin said with determination.

As Garai ran toward the pitch, tension filled the air. He unleashed a super-paced ball, but Akin misjudged and missed it. He missed the next few deliveries as well, leaving the crowd murmuring in disappointment.
"What the hell?" Garai muttered. "This guy doesn't have any batting talent at all."
Akin laughed awkwardly. "Coach, can I at least try bowling?"
Coach Masaba nodded. "Sure, let's see what you've got."
Garai scoffed. "This guy probably has no talent for bowling either."
Akin ignored the taunt, took the ball, and prepared to bowl. "You ready, Garai?"
Garai smirked. "You don't belong here. Why even try?"
Akin's expression hardened. "Because cricket is fun. The thrill of the game, the roar of the crowd, and the suspense of the last over—it's all worth it. That's why I'm here."
Garai's smirk faded. "Then bring it on, you idiot!"

Akin ran full speed to the pitch and delivered a perfectly spun ball. Garai swung confidently but missed as the ball dipped at the last second and knocked over the stumps.
"What?" Garai gasped. "That was no ordinary delivery!"
Ekon cheered. "Nice one, Akin!"
Akin continued bowling, outsmarting each batsman with his unique technique. His spin bowling left everyone in awe.
Coach Masaba grinned. "Well, it's settled. Akin is on the team."
Uzoma exclaimed, "With Akin, we might not even need to train!"
Coach Masaba laughed. "Don't get too confident. We have a practice match against another team today."

Page 5: The Match Begins
The team arrived at the Brian Lara Stadium, where they would face Yoshida Shokanji High from Sri Lanka.
"Wow! This stadium was built in honor of my dad," Akin said, marveling at the grandeur.
The opposing team's captain, Charvik, introduced himself. His star player, Ivaan, smirked. "So, this is Brian Lara's son? Let's see if he's any good."
The match began with Yoshida batting first. Ivaan stepped onto the pitch, brimming with confidence. Despite Bishop High's best efforts, Ivaan's powerful shots dominated the field.
"He's incredible," Akin said in awe.
"Keep your head in the game!" Garai snapped. "We can still beat them."
As the match progressed, Bishop High strategized to counter Ivaan's aggression. Taba, inspired by Akin's spin technique, delivered a surprise spinning bouncer. Ivaan hesitated, and the ball clipped his stumps.
Akin cheered, "Nice one, Taba!"
The match continued with fierce competition, setting the stage for an epic rivalry between Akin and Ivaan.

The story of Akin Lara had only just begun. Would he rise to his father's legacy or forge a path of his own? Only time would tell.
