Chapter 7: A Storm Within
Enzo's POV
I walked out of the villa, pissed. Seraphina words echoed in my mind.
You're not my brother.
Well, sister. I'm sorry to burst your bubble. Step brother or not. I am your brother. You're supposed to be on my side.
And there was Luca. I knew mom had pushed her up to it. Seraphina would have never in her right mind be with the same man who was involved in sending our father to his grave.
Or did she know? Nah, mom could be a trickster.
I walked past the bodyguards and stopped outside the mansion, turning back for a final glance.
"I'll get you sister. You'll understand soon," I said calmly. My gaze landed on the bodyguards and I sneered.
Idiots.
I opened my car's door and slid into the driver's seat. My right gripped the steering wheel tightly and I slammed the door shut. I drove out, the reflection of the villa got smaller.
I stepped on the brake, my mind racing with plans. I needed to do something fast. But first, I would have to take care of my mother.
My phone rang, taking my attention off the road for a second. I reached for it, and it fell to my legs. I took a quick glance at the road and at the phone, trying to reach for it.
Then, out of nowhere, a deer appeared on the road.
"Damn it!" I cursed, slamming the brakes. The tires screeched, and the car skidded dangerously close to the edge of the road.
I stepped on the brakes, bringing the car to a halt. "What the hell was that?" I yelled, looking at my rearview mirror.
"Stupid animal!" I hissed.
I tried to calm my racing heart, and gripped the wheel. The day just kept getting worse.
I exhaled sharply, and muttered. "Get a grip, Enzo. You have to focus."
When I was here I had my emotions in check, I started driving. Memories of my family sending me in exile returned and I became angry.
You can't do anything, you stupid child. How could you betray your family like this?
This is better than having you killed. You're exiled from this family. Leave! I don't want to see you! Don't make me change my mind!
That was my father yelling, with my mother supporting him. They didn't care. None of them ever did.
Seraphina stood at the staircase crying.
I pressed down on the gas again, driving above the speed limit. My anger returned, making me blind to everything.
I noticed a flash of red and blue light on my rearview mirror.
"Ugh, perfect," I muttered sarcastically, parking the car to the side of the road.
The patrol vehicle parked behind me, and two officers stepped out. I waited until they got to the car's door and I let down the glass.
"Hello officers," I greeted warmly.
"You were driving past the speed limit, sir," the first officer spoke.
"Yeah, about that. I had some things in my mind and I didn't notice. I'm sorry officer," I explained.
"Sorry, wouldn't help if you had hit someone," the officer continued. I watched him write out a ticket and I sighed.
"Um, officer. I think we can sort this out amicably," I said calmly.
"Here's your ticket, sir," the officer answered.
"Look, I'm a very busy man. Just help me out of this. I can pay you, any amount," I continued.
"Are you aware it's a crime to bribe an officer of the law?" The first officer asked.
I sighed, taking out a wad of cash. "Here, take it. Let's forget this ever happened."
The second officer didn't care. "Step out of the car, sir."
"Come on. You don't want it?" I asked, looking at their stern faces. "Oh, okay."
"Step out of the car, now!" The officer repeated.
"Just take it. Here, let me add some more," I said, adding another wad of cash, but they didn't budge.
Today wasn't the day for them to act upright. What was their problem? I was offering two thousand dollars in cash.
I returned the cash to my pocket and reached out the gun tucked under my jacket. They were slow, and I shot at them.
Both fell to the floor. The first officer was gone and the second crawled, reaching for his gun. I rolled my eyes and shot him.
Walking to their bodies, I checked to see if their body camera was on, but it wasn't.
"Good, the heaven's in my favour," I said, taking out the body camera and smashing it to pieces with my feet.
"Next time, you'll accept the money," I said, and got back into my car, speeding off.
I threw the gun on the passenger seat and kept driving. My breathing became steady, and my heart was cold with anger.
I pulled over at the hotel, parking my car at the VIP area. I grabbed my gun, hiding it under my jacket and got out.
"Welcome, Mr. Calabrese," the hotel staff greeted. I nodded slightly and walked to my suite, kicking off my shoes the moment I was in.
I tossed my jacket on the white sofa and headed to the bathroom. The cold water made my skin relax.
I wrapped a clean towel around my waist and walked back into my room. I picked my phone from the table and dialed a number.
The line rang and after a few seconds a male voice answered.
"How far are you with the plan?" I asked.
"Everything's been set in place sir," he responded.
"Very well. Start the next phase," I ordered.
The voice on the other end hesitated. "Are you sure?"
"Did I stutter?" I snapped.
"N...no," he replied quickly. "It'll be done."
I hung up, tossing the phone on the bed. I walked to the mini bar, and poured some whiskey into my glass.
Raising it to my lips, I stared out the window enjoying the hotel's view.
Let's see how far you're willing to go, Seraphina.
