Chapter 8 - Deep Regrets

Mr. Morgan's hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white with tension. His mind was a chaotic storm of anger, fear, and betrayal. He could not believe his family had let things get so out of control, and now his beloved daughter Ariana was in danger, and who knew where she was?

The images of Ariana flashed before his eyes, her face etched with distress. He pressed harder on the gas pedal, his car speeding down the dark, winding road. The headlights cut through the fog, but his vision was blurred by the rage and worry consuming him.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a deer darted across the road. Mr. Morgan swerved to avoid it, his reflexes sluggish from the emotional turmoil. The car skidded, tires screeching, and slammed into a tree with a sickening crunch. The force of the impact sent him crashing forward, his head hitting the steering wheel. Everything went black.

Back at the mansion, Victoria, Viola, and Sarah were still reeling from the morning's chaos. The sound of the phone ringing cut through the tension like a knife. Victoria picked it up, her hands trembling.

" Hello? " She answered in a low, uncertain voice.

" Am I speaking with Mrs. Morgan, this is Officer Daniels from the county police. I'm afraid I have some bad news. Your husband, Mr. Morgan, has been in a car accident." Daniel stated

Victoria's breath caught in her throat. " No, no, that can't be true. Is he...is he okay? " Victoria asked in a trembling voice.

The officer hesitated, his voice heavy with sympathy. " He has been taken to the hospital. He is in critical condition. You need to come immediately. "

Victoria's knees buckled, and she sank into a chair, her mind unable to process the words. Viola and Sarah rushed to her side, their faces pale with fear.

" What happened, Mom? " Viola asked, her voice trembling.

" Your father...he's been in an accident," Victoria managed to say, her voice breaking. " We need to go to the hospital."

The ride to the hospital was a blur of sirens and flashing lights. Victoria, Viola, and Sarah sat in tense silence, each lost in their own thoughts and fears. When they arrived, they were met by Officer Daniels, who guided them to the emergency room.

A doctor approached, his expression grave. " Mrs. Morgan, I am Dr. Harris. Your husband is in critical condition. We are doing everything we can, but it's going to be touch and go."

Victoria nodded numbly, her eyes filled with tears. " Can we see him? "

" Just for a moment ," Dr. Harris said gently. " He is unconscious, but he might be able to hear you."

They were led into a small, sterile room where Mr. Morgan lay, connected to various machines. His face was bruised, and his body looked fragile under the hospital blankets. Victoria approached his bedside, taking his hand in hers."

Sweety, it is me," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.

" Please, you have to fight. We need you. I need you, everyone needs you alive. "

Viola and Sarah stood by, tears streaming down their faces. " Dad, please wake up, " Viola whispered. " We can't lose you."

Sarah wiped her tears with the back of her hand, her guilt overwhelming her. " I'm so sorry, Dad. This is all my fault." Sarah stated as her voice was barely a whisper.

" Dad, I just want to say how sorry I am for everything that's happened. I never meant for things to get so out of hand. I feel responsible for your accident, and I can't forgive myself." Sarah stated before the door to the room swung open, and Dr. Harris entered with a team of medical professionals. His expression was serious, and the room fell silent as he approached the bed.

" Mrs. Morgan, " Dr. Harris began, his voice steady but grave. " We have just reviewed your husband's latest scans, and I am afraid we have found something concerning. There is evidence of internal bleeding in his brain. We need to perform surgery immediately to relieve the pressure and stop the bleeding." He stated

Victoria's face turned pale, and she clutched the hand of Mr. Morgan's bed for support. " Surgery? Is it... is it dangerous? " Victoria inquired, dumbstruck.

Dr. Harris nodded. " Yes, it is. Any surgery involving the brain carries significant risks, but if we don't operate, the bleeding could cause further damage and potentially be life-threatening. "

Sarah's eyes filled with tears, and she looked at her father, fear etched on her face. " Mom, I am so scared. What if something goes wrong? " Sarah inquired.

Victoria managed a weak smile, trying to comfort her daughter despite her own fear. " Sarah, I trust the doctors. They know what they are doing. We have to have faith that everything will be okay. " Victoria stated.

Victoria stepped forward, her voice trembling. " Dr. Harris, how long will the surgery take? And what are his chances? " Victoria inquired.

Dr. Harris took a deep breath. " The surgery could take several hours, and while there are risks, Mr. Morgan is strong. We will do everything we can to ensure a positive outcome. I can't promise anything, but I assure you that he's in good hands." Dr Harris stated before his medical team started to work on the instruments.

Victoria leaned over and kissed Morgan's forehead, her voice breaking. " Morgan, we are with you. We love you so much. Please, just come back to us." Victoria stated before Morgan was pushed to the operation room.

The sterile, cold lights of the hospital flickered above as the Morgan family sat in the waiting room, their anxiety palpable. The hours felt endless as they awaited news about Mr. Morgan's operation. Sarah, Viola, and Victoria clung to each other, their minds racing with fear and hope in equal measure.

Dr. Harris finally appeared, his face solemn and eyes downcast. He approached the family slowly, the weight of his words evident in his posture. The Morgans rose to meet him, their hearts pounding with a mix of anticipation and dread.

" Dr. Harris," Victoria began, her voice trembling. " How is my husband? How is Morgan? "

Dr. Harris took a deep breath, his eyes meeting Victoria's with a pained expression. " Mrs. Morgan, I'm so sorry. We did everything we could, but the internal bleeding was too severe. Mr. Morgan didn't make it through the operation." Dr. Harris stated with his voice barely a whisper.

Victoria's world seemed to shatter at that moment. Her knees buckled, and she would have collapsed if Viola and Sarah hadn't caught her. " No, Nooo, this can't happen." she whispered, her voice cracking.

" No, this can't be. Morgan can't be gone." Victoria weped

Sarah's eyes filled with tears as she clung to her mother. " Dad, no! This is my fault. If I had not... if I hadn't..." Her sobs choked her words, and she buried her face in her mother's shoulder.

Viola stood stunned, her face pale and expressionless. The shock was too great to process. She wanted to scream, to rage against the unfairness of it all, but no words would come.

Dr. Harris looked at them with deep empathy.

" I know there's nothing I can say to ease your pain, but please know that he fought hard. He was a brave man, and I believe he loved you all very much. " Dr Harris stated.

Victoria clutched at Dr. Harris's arm, her eyes wide with desperation. " Can we see him? Can we say goodbye? "

Dr. Harris nodded gently as he replied " Of course. We will give you as much time as you need. "

The walk to Mr. Morgan's room was agonizingly slow. Each step felt like a march toward a cruel reality they were not ready to face. When they finally reached the door, Victoria hesitated, drawing a shaky breath before pushing it open.

Mr. Morgan lay peacefully on the bed, the machines around him silent. The family approached him, and Victoria reached out to touch his hand, which was still warm but lifeless. She collapsed into the chair beside him, her tears flowing freely.

"Morgan, Darling" she whispered, her voice breaking. " How am I supposed to do this without you? How am I supposed to be strong for the girls? "

Sarah knelt beside her father, her tears soaking the bedsheets. " Dad, I am so sorry. I should have been a better daughter. I should have listened to you. Please forgive me."

Viola stood at the foot of the bed, her hands clenched into fists. " Dad, I promise I will take care of Mom and Sarah. I will make you proud. I. Will be the daughter you always believed I could be."

The room was filled with their grief, the weight of their loss suffocating. The sound of their sobs echoed off the sterile walls, a haunting reminder of the void left by Mr. Morgan's absence before a phone call interrupted.
