Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Nightshade Society's Covetous Gaze

In the dark underworld of New York City, there existed a little-known but terrifying organization—the Nightshade Society. Its members, all cloaked in black robes and hoods, moved like shadows in the night, carrying out their secretive and ruthless operations. They had long remained hidden in the city's dark corners, scheming various malevolent deeds, all in pursuit of their unspeakable ambitions.

The leader of the Nightshade Society, a mysterious figure known as the "Shadow Lord," was a towering presence who never removed his hood, even indoors. Beneath the deep shadows of his cloak, his eyes glinted with a dangerous combination of greed and coldness. Obsessed with supernatural power, the Shadow Lord had spent years searching for a rare and powerful force that would enable him to perform a dark ritual—one that would give him control over the entire supernatural world.

On the very night that Eric accidentally awakened his werewolf bloodline, the Society's many informants across the city detected the unusual events. The strange supernatural occurrences acted like beacons in the darkness, drawing their attention. One of the informants hurried through a narrow, dimly lit underground passage to the secret hideout of the Nightshade Society. Inside, the flickering candlelight cast eerie shadows on the walls as the Shadow Lord sat on a large stone chair, deep in thought about his next move.

The informant kneeled before him, speaking quickly, "Shadow Lord, tonight there has been a strong supernatural disturbance in the city, and it seems to be related to the awakening of a werewolf bloodline." The Shadow Lord's eyes flashed with a brief spark of exhilaration. He rose slowly from his chair and paced toward the informant, asking in a low, measured voice, "Are you certain it's the werewolf bloodline?" The informant quickly nodded, "Absolutely, Shadow Lord. From what we've observed, the source of the disturbance is a young man. He transformed on the streets, causing a series of bizarre events."

A cold smile curved the Shadow Lord's lips. He knew that the werewolf bloodline was the key to completing his dark ritual. With Eric's werewolf power, his dream of ruling over the supernatural world would be one step closer. The Shadow Lord immediately gave the order, "Find this person with the werewolf bloodline at all costs. Alive if possible, dead if necessary!"

Soon, a group of elite Nightshade Society members were dispatched. Leading them was Damon, a cold-hearted assassin known for his swift, deadly methods. Damon was fit, with piercing eyes that gleamed like an eagle's, and a cruel smile always on his lips. He was famous within the Society for his talent in tracking and hunting, and his ruthless methods.

Damon and his team moved like ghosts through the streets and alleys of New York, meticulously checking every possible lead, questioning street informants. In a dimly lit bar, Damon found a familiar face—a gnome who specialized in collecting rumors from the supernatural world. The gnome sat in a corner, drinking alone, and his eyes flickered with fear when he saw Damon and his team approach.

Damon grabbed the gnome by the collar and slammed him onto the table, coldly demanding, "I hear you're well-informed. What do you know about the werewolf who appeared on the streets tonight?" Trembling, the gnome stammered, "M… Master, I… I only heard that the werewolf is just a young, ordinary man. I don't know his identity, but… I heard he's heading west in the city."

Damon sneered and tossed a pouch of gold coins onto the table. "Go tell your friends to stay out of our way," he said before turning to his team. "We head west immediately."

Meanwhile, Eric had no idea that danger was closing in on him. After returning to his small apartment from the abandoned factory, his body exhausted, he collapsed onto his bed. His mind replayed the events of the night, filled with fear and confusion. He didn't understand why he had turned into a werewolf, nor did he know what to do next.

Eric rose and walked to the window, staring out at the bustling city. The lights still flickered, and people went about their business, as if nothing had changed. But deep inside, he knew his life had been shattered forever. Suddenly, a chill ran up his spine, and an overwhelming feeling of being watched washed over him. He looked around, but saw nothing.

Unbeknownst to him, across the street in the shadows, Damon held a mysterious crystal ball, its faint glow pointing them toward their target. Damon gazed at the blurry figure inside the orb, a smile curling at the corners of his lips. "Prey… I've found you at last," he whispered. With a wave of his hand, his team dispersed like hunters of the night, silently encircling Eric's apartment.

As Eric sensed the looming danger, his heart rate quickened. Although he didn't know where the threat was coming from, his instincts as a werewolf made him feel the presence of death. He clenched his fists, ready to face whatever came his way, vowing to protect himself at all costs. Meanwhile, Nightshade Society members had quietly infiltrated his apartment building, moving step by step toward his room. A thrilling chase was about to unfold.

In this tense atmosphere, will Eric realize the Nightshade Society's scheme in time to escape? What methods will the Society use to capture him? Everything remains uncertain, and Eric's journey into the dangers of his shattered life has only just begun.
