Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Luxury of Loneliness

Bevis was right. I should find someone like me, someone I can walk hand in hand with under the sun, savoring the warmth of human delicacies together, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. When we're intimate, there'd be no need to worry about fangs, no need to guard against schemes, no need to partake in bloody missions, and certainly no need to stand here enduring his superficial affection, which is nothing but thin, hypocritical love.

The suppressed rage and fear of the past few days erupted all at once. I kicked the elevator wall hard, and the sudden burst of force caused the elevator to shake violently twice, but it continued to rise...

Resentment twisted in my heart, like a noose tightening around my neck, suffocating me, leaving me utterly helpless.

Kenneth was also stunned by my wild words and shocking actions. He stood in a corner, coldly watching me, no longer speaking.

Lionel cautiously comforted me, "Margie, calm down, okay? I'm just ruling out your suspicion!"

I brushed off his hand on my shoulder. "I'm not a vampire, and I can't be called a suspect! I already gave you the chance to act earlier, and you missed it." I subtly activated my telekinetic power, and as soon as I finished speaking, both Lionel and Kenneth were frozen in front of me.

By joining Marcus's organization, we had become outright enemies. What kind of love was there to talk about?!

Tears fell like beads from a broken necklace, cascading down my face. I reached out to touch Lionel's handsome, cold face, sobbing uncontrollably. "I love you, so please don't hurt me! Bevis is my only family, and I will never let you capture him. I know who killed Benson, but I'll never tell you. That damned vampire could die ten thousand times and still not atone for his sins in this life! Go and take responsibility for your father, August. We'll never meet again."

In the end, he was just a heartless thousand-year-old vampire. I couldn't outmaneuver him, nor did I want to be used by him to enhance his power anymore.

His hatred had nothing to do with me, and from now on, I had nothing to do with him either.

I took off the expensive bat ring from my left thumb and placed it in his pocket. Pressing the button for the first floor, the elevator slowly descended.

As I walked out of the Rose Baron Hotel, sunlight suddenly hit me, like a burst of flowers filling my arms—so bright, so dazzling, so warm.

Facing the sun, I took slow, deep breaths. My tears gradually dried as I spread my arms, letting the sunlight envelop me, though my heart was filled with bitterness.

The sunlight pierced through the skin of my eyelids, creating a vivid red, like the strands of hair that brushed past my eyes when Lionel kissed me.

God, how many days had it been since I last saw the sun?

Falling in love with a vampire... how absurd. This love was also filled with gloom, as dark as the heavens and earth.

A real human shouldn't stay in the shadows for too long, or their nature would become twisted beyond control, just like those greedy, selfish, and cruel vampires.

I didn't call Dene, afraid that returning to the villa would drag them into this mess.

Warily scanning my surroundings, I found no suspicious figures before stepping onto the street. Lionel was so cunning; he knew my abilities and would surely have someone tailing me.

I wanted to leave France, but then I remembered my passport was still in that cursed underground castle. All I had in my pocket was the bank card Dene gave me. At least I wouldn't starve. Maybe I should ask Dene to help me get a new passport.

But... where should I go?

I laughed at my own self-reflection. As long as I stood in the sunlight, those disgusting vampires wouldn't dare come near.

Yet, I couldn't stop the night from coming.

I told myself that even though I was heartbroken, I shouldn't drown my sorrows in alcohol. Entering a bar was just for the lively atmosphere. In crowded places, vampires probably wouldn't cause trouble.

The blaring music, the dim, flickering colorful lights, the overpowering smell of alcohol, the swirling smoke, and a group of people lost in their own world, swaying wildly—this wasn't a bar; it was worse than hell!

Sitting at the bar, I ordered a drink and slowly swirled the glass. Checking the time, I sent a text to Dene, telling him I had left the Baron's underground castle.

He warned me to be careful, as there might be vampires following me, and suggested I find a safe hotel to stay for a few days until things calmed down before returning home.

Just as I deleted the message, a hand landed on my shoulder. "Miss, are you alone?"

"Do you need something?" I wanted to savor the taste of loneliness, but even that seemed like a luxury now.

I raised an eyebrow and glanced at him. He was wearing a stylish jacket and jeans, with a unique pendant around his neck. His long, dyed hair was messy and unruly, but his face was somewhat handsome.

"Just offering you a drink."

I swirled the drink in my glass. "My boyfriend's dancing in the crowd. If he sees me chatting with a handsome guy, neither of us will have a good time!"

He leaned closer. "Baby, don't joke. I've noticed you since you walked in. It's been an hour, and you've been alone the whole time."

Who would've thought he'd be so observant!

I pointed my thumb behind me. "I came here specifically to find him. See that guy with the tattoos in the crowd? That's him. He's a mob boss. The last guy who tried to hit on me lost an arm, and I got beaten up too!"

I turned my head, staring at his hand on my shoulder. "Your arm might be gone within the next half hour!"

He reluctantly pulled his hand back and looked toward the crowd, as if searching for my terrifying boyfriend. After a while, he still couldn't figure out who it was, but he instinctively moved away from me, just in case.

Yet, he couldn't resist asking curiously, "Why don't you leave him?"

"Do you think I can? His bodyguards are everywhere. How could I escape?" I glanced at him sideways. "Don't you feel like there's a pair of eyes watching you from behind, lurking in the shadows? I suggest you leave as soon as possible."
