Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Wickedness of Love

I didn't just like it—I was jealous. Why didn't I have a pair of wings? Thinking about the awe-inspiring sight of those massive reddish-brown wings unfurling with a thunderous and chilling force, I couldn't help but feel envious. I really wanted to pluck all the feathers from his wings and attach them to my own, one by one.

"Do you like wings?" he asked, his words carrying a double meaning as he glanced suggestively at the chicken wings I was gnawing on. "Looking at you like this, it seems you wish you could use Lionel's wings as a blanket!"

I didn't know how to respond to his tricky question. I awkwardly laughed and said, "Uh... the taste... the chicken wings taste pretty good!"

"Hahaha..." he suddenly burst into laughter.

I must have answered correctly, right?

Why does he, like Lionel, always burst into inexplicable laughter? Just a few days ago, he was cold and reserved.

Feeling sullen, I ladled a bowl of soup and shot him a glare. "Is it really that funny? Seeing Queen Dalina and Prince Rui Jones, I'm really worried Lionel might get hurt."

His laughter froze on his face. "Margie, you don't need to worry about Lionel. No one can hurt him. His power is slightly greater than Prince Rui Jones's. Moreover, if we can find someone to awaken the latent elf power within him, he will become even stronger, possibly even surpassing the Vampire King. That's why Dalina and Rui Jones both fear and scheme against him."

I was stunned. I glanced at the ring on my finger, and my chopsticks fell onto the table. Doubts flooded my mind. Does Lionel truly love me, or am I just a tool to awaken his elf powers?

Thinking back to when we held hands, his strong heartbeat and gradually rising body temperature, it all felt too suspicious.

"Margie, what's wrong? You don't look well," Dene said as he straightened my chopsticks.

"Dene, how does one awaken the elf power within him?"

"If he has already mastered his own power, physical intimacy would help him."

Is Lionel just using me for revenge?!

Hmph... No wonder he's always hugging and holding me.

My heart felt as if it had been suddenly stabbed, the pain sharp and intense, catching me completely off guard.

Dene pulled his chair closer and sat beside me, eating with me. He elegantly picked up some food, placed it in his mouth, and chewed slowly and carefully, not saying a word. The atmosphere was strangely delicate.

Is my resistance to handsome men too weak, or is his charm too overwhelming?

I stared at him for a full minute before finally looking away as he turned to me with a puzzled smile.

Could he have captured my heart with just one meal?!

No, my love for Lionel is unwavering. Even though I don't know if he's with me because he loves me or to gain power for revenge, I should still remain loyal and despise the despicable behavior of being fickle and two-timing.

But then, thinking about Lionel's Princess Sibylle and Miss Tiffany, my heart felt uneasy again.

"What's wrong? Is the soup not good?" He took my spoon, sipped some soup, and then held it to my lips. "It tastes pretty good. Try it."

I frowned and was about to open my mouth when he suddenly pulled the spoon back and drank it himself.

I pouted. Why are men so wicked these days?

I simply picked up the bowl and gulped down the soup in one go, dousing the rising anger in my chest.

Dene reached over, chuckling as he gently touched my cheek. "Are you mad? I was just joking."

"Cough cough... Flirting so early in the morning, do you want to kill me?!" Amelia's shrill voice pierced the air as she strutted over in her nine-inch heels, her petite figure swaying gracefully. Her ample chest heaved like the waves of jealousy surging within her.

She yanked a chair and sat down right next to Dene. "I can't believe it! Yesterday you were ready to die for that baron, and today you're back here trying to seduce someone else's boyfriend. Margie, you're the most deceitful woman I've ever met!"

I didn't want to start a fight, so I ignored her and focused on eating.

But she only became more aggressive. "Hey, don't play dumb with me! I know exactly what you're thinking! I'm warning you, don't get any ideas about Dene!"

Dene, however, didn't seem to mind. "Amelia, is Margie planning to take advantage of me? I really hope she does something."

"Cough cough..." I choked on the soup in my mouth. Amelia's judgment was off—I hadn't been thinking anything of the sort!

Suddenly, a piercing scream came from upstairs. It was clearly Judy's voice.

Amelia shot me a disdainful look. "You're really something, bringing a vampire into the house? Do you think this is a shelter? Damn it... Margie, you owe me an explanation!"

I was only worried about what might have scared Judy. She had just become a vampire and was surely emotionally unstable.

I rushed upstairs and found Judy standing in disbelief at Bevis's door, staring inside before collapsing to the floor. Bloody tears streamed down her face like a dam had burst. "Bevis, how could you do this? I told you I loved you. How could you be with her..."

I cautiously approached, using a tissue to wipe Judy's tears, only to see Catherine clinging forcefully to Bevis. Bevis pushed her away, but she latched onto him again. Their clothes were disheveled, and they were tangled together as if in a fight, rolling around on the bed, biting and kissing each other—God, fighting doesn't look so ambiguous!

The wickedness of love, the wickedness of men, the wickedness of women!

I could only pat Judy's shoulder, offering her my deepest sympathy. "Judy, whether Bevis comes back to you is up to you now. I'm going out to play. You'll be well taken care of here."

Judy blinked helplessly, this time with no tears left to cry.

But then, under my worried gaze, she said something that terrified me: "Margie, I'm so hungry. I'm suddenly so hungry. I'm really, really hungry!"

Women who are heartbroken love to binge-eat—women vampires are no different!
