Belle touched Redricks shoulder wich caused him to turn aound with a bit of bewilderment.
"ey lad I know family matters are a bit difficult for you, but I think you should know this. Andrius, Ellie and Jasmine have been fully knighted to kings guards now. Well not kings guards but... ah you know what I mean. You should probably write a letter to congratulate them, they would like it I am sure."
The guild leader looked up a bit and sighed "your other siblings haven't been writing me so I have no clue what they are up to."
Redrick didn't have any real family he was aware of ofcourse. The townfolk thought the orphans as siblings, Redrick himself used to call them that. All of that changed when ten of them left to fight in the war with their adoptive father. Like him they all died on duty
The other 5 orphans were spread across the country to study, train or go on adventures, the only one who took care of misses Goldfield was Redrick. This took quite a toll on him. He didn't have any time to grief because of the state his adoptive mother. He wished he could have gotten some help from his suposed siblings.
That help never came.
So Redrick started to blame his siblings because of it. The last time he saw them was at the funeral of miss Goldfield. He didn't show himself to them tho. Redrick was on the roof of the church looking at the funeral from above.
"Well Lynn and Estell always talked about adventuring, I am sure that they forgot all about us. Ah but hear me, those three on their high horses only write us to show off" redrick said with a bitter voice and a gloomy fake smile on his face.
"Lad you know that ain't true, they are fond of ...." Redrick interrupted before belle could finish her sentence.
"If they cared so much, than they would have shown them self's more. They would have been here for her".
Belle wanted to say somthing but nothing came out, she had these conversations before with Redrick but it never really worked out the way she wanted.
"Alright than, I'll see you tomorrow before noon for the job." Redrick said before closing the guild door.
Redrick went back to the abandoned church. There was an old cemetery behind the church before it became an orphanage. Most of the gravestones had withered away to look like stones. The remains of the people who lied there had been taken care of by nature itself.
It used to be such a gloomy sight, until miss Goldfield had an idea. She wanted to make a garden filled with flowers. Redrick can still remember the day they started building it.
~
"Misses Goldfield, wich kind of flowers are we going to plant?" miss Goldfield turned around to see a little ghostly white boy with pitch black hair, who was currently yawning.
"Ah little redrick that is a very good question, I was thinking about that myself but your sister jasmine had a good idea".
Just then, small footsteps could be heard and three little kids walked around the corner with shovels and other garden gear. On the left was a boy with some muscular arms and flame red hair, this was Andrius.
On the right was a somewhat taller girl with blond hair and a star birthmark on her forehead, this was Ellie.
In the middle was jasmine, she had long purple hair and always had a refined attitude.
"Ah you are here Redrick, we almost thought you were bailing on us to be with Lynn and Estel" jasmine said with a smile
Andrius laughed " it's good you are here, more man power is needed to do thi...." a fast kick in the guts made him unable to finish his sentence.
Andrius was now rolling in pain until the boot of Ellie was put on his chest. "Ohw what a great man you are, one kick of this damsel put you in this sorry state."
"Could you two play nice for once, there is a lot of work to do. But before that, Jasmine could you explain your idea to us." misses Goldfield said while holding the two fighting kids by their ears.
"A ofcourse misses Goldfield, my plan is that we fill it with 17 different kinds of flowers. Everyone chooses a flower they like and we will plant it. That flower than will represent you. Mister and misses goldfield choose 1 flower together tho."
Redrick smiled "if everyone has his own flower in the garden, wouldn't that mean that we are still close to each other even when we are miles apart".
Misses Goldfield looked suprised at the small boy. "ohw I havent thought about that yet, thats such a lovely idea dear Redrick. But now that i think of it, I forgot that at some point even you guys are going to leave us".
The four kids looked looked at misses Goldfield and screamed "we will come back as much as we can miss Goldfield".
~
"And I am still the only one who keeps that promise" redrick said in front of two gravestones that were surounded by white carnation.
The garden had a simple design, in the middle was a big circle with white carnation. Sixteen triangles were pointing towards this big circle. If you were to look at it from above than you would see a sun that a todler would have drawn with all kinds of colours.
Ten of those triangles also had gravestones.
"It's funny that we made this garden to make things look less gloomy, why doesn't it work for me than?" redrick said while having tears come down from his face.
"Why am I feeling alone while being near all of you?"
Redrick fell on his knees making him as small as possible.
"Why did you all have to leave me and put all these reminders here to torment me?"
"Why did you guys have to go into battle and save some nobody's to eventually get yourself killed?"
He hit the ground in anger and unfairness.
"And why did you have to take your own life while I was still around to help you?"
Redrick wept for quite some time. This was not the first time that he asked these questions, and it wouldn't be the last.
There was never a reply that made him stop asking.
The only thing he heard was the rustling of the trees, the wind that hit his ear and the crickets that were hiding in the grass.
Normally he would have liked this kind of silence, but tonight he didn't.
Redrick ate somthing and went to bed after taking care of all the flowers.
He was exhausted and he couldn't wait for this day to end. So he closed his eyes to try to fall asleep.
That night he dreamt of how they finished that garden.
All together with smiles on their faces.
laughter to fill the silence.
And about an angel that made that day happen.
