Synopsis
In-su Hwang, an anxious, underachieving accountant with dreams of a stable, uneventful life, stumbles upon what he thinks is an ordinary job listing online. Eager to escape his mundane existence, he carelessly applies for the position, only to find himself whisked away to a chaotic future—2130. To his horror, he has unknowingly been recruited into the Scourge Unit, an elite group of warriors tasked with fighting monstrous creatures that plague the Earth. Upon arrival in this dystopian world, In-su is immediately thrust into a nightmarish reality. The job isn't what he expected at all. Instead of crunching numbers, he's forced to wield weapons and battle terrifying creatures known as Wraiths, beings of darkness that hunt down humanity. Completely unprepared and in over his head, In-su has to quickly learn how to survive in a world where every corner hides a deadly monster, and every wrong move could be his last. The members of the Scourge Unit are skilled, tough, and laser-focused on their mission. In-su? Not so much. He can barely wield a sword without tripping over his own feet, let alone fight a giant monster. But what he lacks in combat skills, he makes up for in his ability to find humor in the most absurd situations. As he navigates his bizarre new life, In-su grapples with his growing understanding of what it means to be a hero, even if he never signed up for it. His quirky, panic-ridden thoughts and hilarious misadventures as the least qualified fighter in a world of chaos bring unexpected levity to the dire situations. Along the way, he learns that bravery doesn’t come from being fearless—it comes from facing your fears, even if you’re still afraid. Thrown into a future he never signed up for, In-su must fight, survive, and maybe—even find a way to return home. But first, he has to stop a world-ending monster apocalypse with nothing but sheer luck and an overwhelming amount of awkwardness on his side. Can In-su go from accidental recruit to true hero? Or will he be monster chow in the process? Stay tuned for a wild ride filled with epic battles, futuristic technology, and hilarious, heartwarming moments.

Chapter 1 - introduction

Dear Readers,

Have you ever found yourself making a decision that seemed harmless at the time, only to later discover it was a huge mistake? Now imagine that mistake doesn't just lead to an awkward conversation with your boss, but instead catapults you into a chaotic, monster-filled future where your life is on the line—and your only weapon is your own sheer, unprepared panic.

Meet In-su Hwang. He's just your average, nervous, caffeine-fueled accountant who doesn't quite fit into the "hero" mold. In fact, his biggest battle is trying to keep it together during a job interview. But when In-su, in a haze of late-night boredom, stumbles upon a mysterious job posting titled The Scourge Unit, he figures, "Hey, it's just another corporate gig, right?" Boy, was he wrong.

Instead of spreadsheets and cubicles, In-su finds himself hurtling through time to the year 2099, straight into a world overrun by terrifying monsters. Suddenly, he's not just an accountant anymore. He's an accidental recruit in a top-secret, elite force tasked with saving humanity from grotesque, nightmarish creatures known as Wraiths. Oh, and did I mention? He has zero combat experience.

Armed with nothing but an overwhelming sense of dread and his knack for turning every situation into an awkward disaster, In-su must learn to survive in this terrifying new world. Will he rise to the occasion? Or will he become monster food before he even gets the chance to figure out what's going on?

Get ready for a rollercoaster of laughs, chaos, and monster battles as In-su stumbles his way through a future he never asked for. Because in this story, the hero's journey starts with one very, very reluctant recruit.

So, buckle up and enjoy the ride—In-su certainly won't.

Sincerely,

Your not-so-typical hero
