May 1st, a new month had begun, and with it, a sense of renewal and possibility. Peter stretched, his body still slightly sore from the night before. Swinging around the city and breaking up crimes was no easy feat. But he couldn't stop, for his old dreams of having powers was no longer a reality. It started out as an addiction. But strangely, later it turned into satisfaction. Varying levels of satisfaction, at that. From the satisfactory feeling of bones breaking beneath his fists to the feeling of achievement, in having people thank him for saving them. And now, he wouldn't have it any other way.
Downstairs, Aunt May was in the kitchen, cheerfully humming a tune, which mingled with the sound TV as she prepared breakfast. The news was on, and J. Jonah Jameson's familiar face appeared on the screen, his unmistakably loud voice booming as he spoke about the latest topic of controversy: Spider-Man.
"...and this so-called 'hero' is a menace, a vigilante who thinks he's above the law," Jameson exclaimed. "He's been leaving a trail of destruction and injured civilians in his wake, and the police are powerless to stop him. Mark my words, this Spider-Man is a danger to society, and he needs to be brought to justice."
Peter paused, holding his glass of orange juice mid-sip. Yep, just as expected. Good ol' JJJ.
"I suppose Spider-Man means well. Still, I hope he doesn't hurt anyone too badly." Aunt May shook her head, her expression disapproving. "I don't like all this violence. It's just not right. We should be working towards peace and understanding, not resorting to fists and fighting."
Peter, nodded in agreement, keeping his face neutral. "Yeah, me too." Though he knew that his aunt's words were not specifically directed at Spider-Man. He had expected this kind of reaction from the public, and he was prepared to walk the fine line between justice and vigilantism. Just another day in the life of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
As he finished his breakfast, Peter couldn't help but think about how his life had changed since he started fighting crime as Spider-Man. Midtown High had become a chore. Harry Osborne, once friendly, had grown distant. Peter couldn't blame him, Norman Osborn's favoritism had always been a sore spot for him. And Gwen Stacy? She was laser-focused on her studies, leaving little time for conversation. Peter, on the other hand, had already learned everything he needed to know, and he found himself bored with the routine of school.
Just then, his phone buzzed, and he received a notification from his bank. His first month's salary from Oscorp had been deposited, and he couldn't wait to use it to upgrade his computer setup. He quickly placed an order online and arranged for it to be delivered to his home.
Peter sat through another boring lecture, doodling in his notebook. Maybe I should just bring a book on quantum mechanics or Connors' research notes to class, he thought. At least that would be interesting.
After school, Peter headed to Oscorp, his usual after-school haunt. As he swiped his badge and stepped into the lab, he was greeted by Dr. Connors, whose voice sounded unusually animated.
"Ah, Peter! You have a keen eye for detail," Connors said, as he reviewed Peter's work. "I must say, I'm impressed. You've caught some errors that even I missed."
Peter smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. "Thank you, Dr. Connors. I just tried to understand the research and point out anything that didn't seem right."
Connors nodded, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "That's exactly what I need. These adjustments you made... especially to the sequencing process are brilliant. Someone who can think critically and help me by providing a fresh perspective. We should discuss this further, I think you might be wasted in high school."
Peter shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Just lucky, I guess."
But Connors wasn't fooled. "No, not luck. Insight. The way you broke down the regenerative serum's side effects and suggested solutions… It's remarkable."
Connors' passion for his work shone through as he explained the potential of regenerative medicine. Peter listened intently, although he had previously grasped the intricacies of the work on regenerative medicine. And with his rapid adaptability activating again, he was eager to contribute to its development.
Connors, impressed by Peter's expertise, began assigning him more advanced tasks. Peter analyzed data sets, prepared experimental setups, and even ran simulations. As the day went on, Connors couldn't help but marvel at the teenager's aptitude.
Before Peter knew it, he was heading back home, exhausted but exhilarated by the work he had done. As he arrived at his house, he was greeted by the delivery man, who had brought his new PC setup.
Right on time!
A few minutes later, the system was set up, wires neatly tucked away, and the monitors glowing with a soft blue hue. Peter got to work immediately, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he built his own custom operating system. This new operating system was built for anonymity and security. Soon after, set up an open-source self-hosted VPN. He also installed the Tor Network, which would allow him to browse the internet securely and anonymously.
Next, Peter created an anonymous email account using ProtonMail, with the email ID "WebWarden™@protonmail.com".He used this email ID to create a YouTube account, which he would use to upload videos of his Spider-Man exploits. He enabled 2-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security to his account.
{A/N: Please ignore the '™', I used it since I can't post an actual ID in a fan-fic.}
Peter then developed a secure streaming software, which would allow him to live-stream his videos without compromising his identity. He used a decentralized secure delivery network (CDN) to distribute his content, making it harder for anyone to track him down.
As he worked on his computer, Peter created a fake persona to match his email ID. He called himself "Spider-Man". The fake backstory stated that, he was murdered in his childhood by an insane criminal. When his thirst for justice altered the reality, he returned from the grave. After which, he was enraged that the system and law didn't get him justice. He located the criminal and gave him a thorough beating. And then took up the mantle of 'Spider-Man'. He was a masked vigilante, fighting against corruption and injustice in the city.
To add an extra layer of security, Peter installed a special software on his computer, which would adjust his anonymity settings to stay a step ahead of potential threats. He also created a self-made voice modulator, which would disguise his voice and make it harder for anyone to identify him.
"Gotta sound like a mysterious, faceless hero," he muttered, testing the modulator. "Too bad I can't sound like Morgan Freeman. That'd be cool."
After he finished his setup, his next step was setting up another self-made software to recieve alerts and notifications about crimes and emergencies in the city. It was also modified to forward the alerts to his phone.
As he leaned back on his chair, Peter felt a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. He had created a secure and anonymous platform for his Spider-Man activities, and he was ready to take his crime-fighting to the next level.
But his thoughts drifted to the fine line he walked. He wasn't a hero in the traditional sense. He wasn't some idealistic do-gooder in a cape.
I'm not Captain America or Superman, he thought, staring at the spider emblem he had taped to his wall. Anyways... not breaking a few rules was what got the real Spider-Man always in trouble.
