Sam blinked in confusion. One minute he was sitting on the train with his headphones on, the next he was looking around at the endless expanse of clouds around him.
"Congratulations! You have been chosen to participate in our Interdimensional exchange." A voice said causing Sam to jump.
He looked around for the source of the voice, until he focused on a floating ball of green light.
"Where am I and what are you?" He asked the light.
"Well that's rude!" The light said in a voice that sounded like a man and a woman were talking at the same time.
"I give you this amazing opportunity, and what do I get for my trouble? Asked not who I am, nooo!! just asked what I am. Like I'm some object you found in the street!"
"I'm sorry." Sam said "but I'm disoriented. Let me ask again. Who are you? Where am I? And how did I get here?
"Well at least this one apologized." The voice sighed. "To answer your questions, I'm the dimensional transfer assistant, or DTA for short. You are currently in a loading bay for a different dimension."
"And to answer your last question in a way you can understand, I pulled you from your dimension just before you died in a train wreck."
Sam shook his head trying to wrap his mind around what he had just heard. He pinched himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"And there it is." The light said "the pinch to check if there dreaming. Right on time."
Sam focused back on the light. "Are we really that predictable?"
"Yes. Now if you could hold your other questions until I have explained this opportunity to you that would be awesome." Seeing Sam nod the light continued
"The dimensional exchange happens for various reasons, depending on which dimensions are participating in an exchange."
"The reason for your exchange is a world in another dimension from your own has completed a ritual to summon heroes to help them in a crisis."
"Before you ask," the light pressed on quickly to stop Sam from asking a question. " I am not given the information on what type of crisis they are facing when this kind of ritual is performed."
"Sometimes it's a demon king other times it's a drought sometimes it's just one hard opponent. It differs from dimension to dimension."
"It's my job to provide heroes when these types of rituals are completed correctly. These summoned heroes will be given abilities based on the dimension they are going to."
"I am required to choose heroes from situations where they will not be missed if there is no body. If you refuse this opportunity, you will be sent back to the moment you were pulled from."
"Choosing to go back, could result in cuts, bruises, scrapes, broken bones, loss of limbs, paralysis, decapitation, and even death, depending on this situation you were pulled from."
"All right now that I've read the terms and conditions to you. Do you have any questions?"
"What kind of dimension would I be going to if I accept?" Sam asked
"Sorry I am only able to tell you that after you have accepted." The ball of light replied
"If I went back, would I survive?"
"I have not been given access to that information but based on my calculations, if you did survive, You would be paralyzed or in a coma for a long time."
"So I'm dead now?" Sam asked with a frown.
"No you're very much alive." The ball of light said. " it's just if you declined this opportunity and choose to go back you could be."
"That's not much of a choice then. Has anyone ever chosen to go back?" He asked
"A few. they're dead now though."
Sam sighed as he looked out into the endless clouds around him.
"It's not like my life was that great to begin with." He muttered
"Will I be transferred as myself or reincarnate as a baby?"
"You will not be reincarnated as a baby. However, based on some choices you'll be given, you also might not be transferred as yourself. I can't say more unless you accept."
Sam thought about it for a moment longer.
"All right I accept the terms and conditions."
The light grew brighter for a few seconds before a beam of light shot out, and into Sam's eyes blinding him for a moment.
"By accepting the terms and conditions, You have confirmed your participation in the dimensional exchange program." The light said as Sam rubbed his eyes so he could see again.
"Thank you for allowing us to help you on your interdimensional Adventure."
"Now for my favorite part." The ball of light said. "The making of a hero."
