The sound stopped for a second and then it started growling again.
He almost lost his balance while running on the slippery ground but somehow managed not to fall.
Soon he reached his desired destination and the scene he saw with his eyes was unbelievable.
He couldn't believe his own eyes.
There stood Amara, beside an injured lion?
The lion was growling at the fox before them.
It seemed as if the fox wanted to hurt Amara and the lion was protecting her.
Nicolas cautiously went in front of them and pulled Amara behind him.
The lion growled and looked like it was going to attack Nicolas.
Amara jumped in the middle and shooked her head at the lion.
It stopped on its track.
"He's my friend. He is here to take me back home safely, not to harm me," she said slowly caressing the lion's head.
The fox has run away as fast as it could.
"It's time for you to go back to your home. I will meet you once again in the future hopefully," Amara said waving at the lion.
The lion growled before running to the other side with a limped leg.
Nicolas noticed his strange way of walking.
This thought disappeared as soon as he realized that he still hasn't checked Amara.
He hurriedly moved her body towards him and started searching if she got hurt or not.
"Are you hurt somewhere? How did you get this mud on your forehead?" He said with a worried look.
"I fell down and then wiped my hands over my forehead. I must have got mud on my forehead that way," she said with flushed cheeks.
She was having a difficult time stomaching down the closeness between them.
Nicolas's concern-filled eyes were doing something to her heart.
It was making her feel things she didn't wish to fill.
It would be much easier for them if there were no feelings included between them but every time she's close to him, her heart refuses to obey her.
Had it been only lust forming inside of her, she would have gone with the flow long ago but it was going in the wrong direction.
She softly pushed him away before clearing her throat.
He realized that he was holding her too close and also cleared his throat.
"How did all of these happen?"
Amara smiled.
Flashback right before darkness engulfed everywhere:
Amara heard an animalistic growl coming from somewhere and her heartbeat fasten up.
She started praying in her head.
She knew how to fight but she wasn't confident enough that she would be able to save herself from harming the animal.
She didn't want to harm any innocent creature but if the situation demands then she probably would have to.
She thought that she won't go there but curiosity got the best of her and her legs started walking in that direction before she could stop them.
She saw a lion growling in pain.
It looked at her with a pained yet hard expression.
It turned alert and was ready to fight back if needed.
She looked at the lion's feet and saw a big piece of wood piercing through its left leg.
Blood was coming out of the wound.
Amara felt her heart paining for that lion.
"This wood much have got separate from the other pieces by last night's storm. Poor lion. I must help him," she determinedly thought.
Yet all her courage flew away when the lion again growled.
"It's ok, Amara. It's not going to hurt you as long as you don't cause it any harm," she encouraged herself and looked into that lion's eyes with a soft expression.
The lion seemed to relax a bit.
Amara slowly went closet and caressed its head.
The lion pushed its head near her body as if encouraging her to go on.
"I am going to help you. It might hurt a little but you are going to get better this way, only if you cooperate," she said keeping a safe distance from the lion's mouth.
She slowly pulled the piece of wound away and the lion growled in pain.
Amara felt goosebumps rising in her body.
"And that's how Amara died.."
She was waiting for the lion to attack her with closed eyes but when she didn't feel any actions made by the lion, she opened her eyes to see that lion licking its wounds.
A sign of relief left her mouth.
She was thankful for the random research she did online when she got bored.
Had she randomly pulled the piece of wood without knowing the full process, the lion might have died from the loss of extreme blood.
She knew that lions lick their wound just like any other animals to heal them faster and after proper rest, they heal faster than we humans do.
Then a fox came approaching Amara and the lion started growling at it.
Soon, Nicolas entered the scene.
Flashback ends.
