Chapter 1 - The Palace?

He raised his hand to his ear as he heard his hand to his hear as his teacher continued with her endless preaching.

"Yu Xian! Are you even listening to me right now?" she asked, and he looked towards her nonchalantly.

"Ok, I have heard you. But if you really want to know, then I will tell you. I am actually cultivating myself. I…" he wasn't allowed to finish his sentence before the crowd booed him.

"We are too used to that excuse; give another one, please." He glared at the man who spoke, but he later shrugged; he was used to it anyway.

"As someone who was blessed with the opportunity to join the academy, you are so lazy. Why are you wasting this opportunity?" the teacher asked, and he stared on at her, not even trying to answer her question.

"You won't answer, right? It's meaningless trying to reason with you. Just go to get your punishment." She turned her back towards him, and he walked out with a smile.

"Gladly," he muttered lowly so no one could hear him, and he skipped happily to the library, the only place he loved after he joined the academy.

Since he always offended the teachers one way or the other, he made sure he fell in love with this place.

"I reserved the book for you; I just knew you would come back soon," a lady at the desk of the library said, smiling at him knowingly.

"Thank you," he smiled, and he stepped even closer into the library, going to the section he wanted to read.

"Yu Xian!" some of his mates called out to him. He turned to look at them and rolled his eyes after he identified them as he focused on the book he was looking for.

"Why are you even here? You can't cultivate from the books here anyway. Would you do us some help and get out of here?" one of them, Wan Shan, spoke up, but he ignored them and continued with his deal.

His eyes glinted as he finally found the book and pulled it out. He turned to leave the place, but they blocked his way. "Can't you hear I am talking to you?"

Wan Shan asked, and he shrugged. "Your words are meaningless, and I have something important to get to, so I won't bother staying here with you."

He tried pushing past them, but they pushed him back as the other by his side pulled on the book he had in hand. "The Earth's Downfall," he read out the title aloud for his friend to hear him.

"I even thought you were reading about sorcery. What is this?" Wu Shan looked at the book, his eyes questioning the look.

"It's something you can never understand." He snatched the book from their hands while they were distracted. "Now that you see that I can't be better than you, I would like to leave."

He had a low smile on his face, and they both looked towards each other before looking back at him. "What right do you have to talk like that?" Wu Shan asked, but before he could continue, Yu Xian called out.

"Zu…" They both stood apart immediately they heard that word, and he smirked as he walked past them. They were, of course, afraid of the librarian who could report them to their parents.

He smiled as he settled the book down on the table and was about to open it when another person appeared before him. "What is wrong again?"

He looked up, and he shifted back in shock at the face he saw. Luo Fu was here to see him. It was the joy of others to get to see him, but it was his sadness as he was never a good student; nothing good could come out of meeting him.

"Why are you here? Do you need help with anything?" he asked nervously as he closed the book in front of him and hid it behind him.

"The teachers asked me to get you. Why else would I be here?" Luo Fu asked, and he smiled nervously as he got up to his feet.

"Okay, I will be with you shortly. Just give me a few minutes to drop this back." He turned away, but Luo Fu appeared in front of him.

"Don't try that trick with me; both you and your book are coming with me," he said and began to drag him out.

"I will go with you; just let me down. It is an insult to my prestige." Luo Fu looked at him with questioning eyes but put him down reluctantly.

They continued to move before he asked, "Do you know why the teachers summoned me?"

"You already know the reason; don't ask me," he said coldly, ignoring him. He scoffed at his reply as they continued their journey.

"Wait here! They are having a meeting," he said and walked off, leaving him at their doorstep while the teachers remained inside.

He sat on the pavement as he heard their words. "We need some more powerful students to go with us. I can't find anyone useful on this list."

He heard an unfamiliar voice speak, and honestly, he didn't care a lot about it until he heard, "Leader, are you planning to keep the best from the palace?"

Another person spoke up, and he was left in shock. From the palace? What were they doing here, and what did they need the students for?

"Of course not. We just have categorized differently; we wouldn't want anything to go wrong," he heard the head teacher say, and he got up swiftly, trying his best not to make a noise as he leaned his ear to the door.

"We will go with these, and that last list of yours, they should all come along to the palace," the first person said. He didn't sound like someone from the palace, but he did sound powerful.

"Ok, I will inform them and send them to you soon," the head teacher said, and he knew that was his cue; they were about to come out.

He shifted backwards as he stood three steps away from the door, awaiting the personnel to move past. The door barged open, and a eunuch walked out, with a sorcerer by his side. His body emitted a great aura; he had never seen one before.

He tried to capture their faces, but he was afraid of being called disrespectful, so he kept his head lowered until they passed by. He raised his head and took a step closer to the head teacher when the sorcerer suddenly said,

"He should also come along."
