Chapter 1 - Introduction

Cedric's words cut through the air, echoing through the university quad, his voice laced with anger and frustration. "Don't follow me, Sarah. Even if you follow me or want to talk to me, it won't change anything. I know I'm a horrible person, so just leave me alone."

He walked quickly across the quad, his blue jeans and fitted t-shirt accentuating his athletic build. The midday sun cast a flattering glow, making him look even more handsome and highlighting how perfectly his clothes fit.

Sarah's face crumpled as she rushed past him, her green pencil dress hugging her curves. The dress showcased her beautiful figure, highlighting her tiny waist and shapely curved hips.

Her long black curly pop braids fell down her back, and her bright brown eyes, once shining with warmth, now brimmed with sorrow. Her lips, typically shiny, full and inviting, were now trembling and smeared with tears. Her runny nose added to her distress.

As she spoke, her voice trembled like a leaf, cracking with desperation. "Please stop, and listen to me, you're making this so much harder for me." Cedric tried to brush past her, but she seized his wrist, her fingers digging deep into his skin.

Her voice erupted in a anguished cry, "Just stop! Where do you think you're going? Let's talk this out!" Tears burst forth, streaming down her face as her voice shattered. Her face crumpled, and Cedric saw the anguish etched on her features. He froze, halted by the raw emotion pouring out of her.

"How could you, Cedric?" Sarah's voice shattered like fragile glass, her words dripping with anguish. "You promised me I was the only one you'd ever love. Why would you betray me like this, dating my friend behind my back?" Her body convulsed with sobs, tears streaming down her face like a torrent of rain. Each word was laced with the venom of pain and sadness.

As she spoke, her fists flew at Cedric's stomach, punching him repeatedly with a ferocity that echoed her anguish. Cedric stood firm, his eyes cast downward, allowing her to unleash her fury upon him. He knew he deserved it, that the weight of his deceit was crushing her. The sound of her sobs and the impact of her fists on his stomach were the only sounds that filled the air, a symphony of heartbreak and betrayal.

Cedric's jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with guilt like embers from a dying fire. He took a step back, his fists clenched, as if bracing himself for the onslaught of Sarah's anger. But she followed him, relentless, her fists flying with both hands, pummeling his stomach with a flurry of punches.

As Sarah's words trailed off, her body began to betray her, her legs buckling like fragile twigs. She swayed, her eyes glazing over and Cedric sprang into action, rushing to her side to catch her before she collapsed to the ground. His arms enveloped her, holding her upright, as he struggled to bear the weight of her anguish.
