He was terrified for two reasons, one being the most horrifying.
After all, he had just learned that the man, whose name was Jade Fang, below him, was actually a member of a ruler of another domain, which was the Golden Serpent Society.
Furthermore, they were known for being insidious, like a snake, slowly entrapping the prey without it knowing and suddenly striking with their sharp teeth filled with venom.
Out of all domains, they were the most terrifying.
They were the definition of assassins.
Now, it made sense to him how he was fooled.
It turned out that when he met him, he had long been in his grasp, slowly caging him without him knowing.
When the time was right, he was struck by its venoms and was about to lose his life.
Thankfully, he was saved.
Now, another reason why he was terrified was simple.
The way Jade Fang appeared to be confident he would die.
He recalled the token he destroyed earlier and finally recognized the massive golden snake in front of it.
'He is not lying.'
Lu Zheng stared at Jade Fang lying on the floor with an ambiguous expression.
Who would have thought that even before his death, even when he was helpless, he would be able to instill fear in him?
He took a deep breath and calmed down.
He regained his composure and suddenly exploded in the hoot of laughter.
If his future enemy was a ruler of the domain, or possibly the entire domain…
"So what?" Lu Zheng exclaimed in an indifferent tone.
Jade Fang did not reply, making Lu Zhen a bit frustrated, but he did not stop laughing.
He stared at Jade Fang with a wide smile on his face as he said, "You know that I already have an entire clan as my enemy. Why not add another powerful enemy to make it exciting? It would be boring if I annihilated a middle-sized clan and then found no desire to obliterate another.
Isn't slaughtering fun?"
Lu Zheng was not aware, but the sudden shift in his personality was affected by the power he temporarily gained earlier.
After all, he had immense killing intent, so enormous to the point it was affecting his way of thinking.
So, it was not surprising he talked about slaughtering so casually.
At this point, his previous ocean eyes returned bloodshot.
He raised his sword and was about to end Jade Fang's life when the latter replied, "You talk too much."
Lu Zheng's face turned ugly, and pushed the broken sword downward, aiming for the head.
Suddenly, he halted, and his ugly face returned to normal as he was suddenly smiling from ear to ear.
He retracted the sword, scrutinized Jade Fang's condition, and was assured he would die from blood loss.
He said, "My mantra for tonight is reciprocation. Since you wanted me to die earlier while suffering from your poison, I'll also let you die from blood loss and the excruciating pain of countless wounds."
Jade Fang did not reply but responded with a light smile.
Lu Zheng coldly harrumphed as he turned his back from him and proceeded to search the place.
When he walked far from Jade Fang, the mysterious voice echoed inside his mind.
'Have you not learned your lesson?'
Lu Zheng was aware of what he meant to say.
After all, Jade Fang let him suffer from poison without his supervision, making him careless and ignorant about Lu Zheng's revival.
If it happened the same to Jade Fang, he would be at a loss.
However, he shook his head in response and replied with a confident tone, "There's no way a despicable man like him will receive heaven's salvation."
He only heard a giggle from his mind, making him chuckle.
Unknowingly, he acted casual to the mysterious voice, not even asking him about the sudden wonder he had earlier.
For instance, the consequence of obtaining the temporary power earlier, which he now felt disappeared after the battle with Jade Fang.
After all, there was no need because he was completely ready for it.
Furthermore, if it had serious consequences, the mysterious voice would have reminded him, but since he did not, then there was no need to worry.
The confidence originated from the idea that the mysterious voice would not betray him because they were bound with souls.
If he died, the mysterious voice would also die.
However, he was ignorant about the mysterious voice's thoughts about living or dying, for he completely did not care about it.
Whether he would continue to live in amusement, watching the life of Lu Zheng, or die with him was of no concern to him.
At this point, Lu Zheng left the area of five shelves, seemingly aiming to cover something behind it.
As expected, his assumption was right.
After all, the placement of the five shelves was rather strange, as though it was hiding something.
Of course, it might not be able to completely hide it because an individual just had to walk past the shelves.
Still, it could delude someone that there was no other side, for it was completely covered with darkness.
After all, there was no torch on the other side.
If it was not because Lu Zheng grabbed a torch and saw a fist-sized stone, like a meteorite, covered with talesman and ropes, he would have believed there was no treasure on the other side of the shelves.
He slowly approached the fist-size stone while welcoming endless questions inside his head when he suddenly heard a gasp echoing inside his mind.
It clearly belonged to the mysterious voice.
He could not help but ask, "Do you know what that is?"
"..."
The mysterious voice did not respond for a while.
Soon, it replied in an ambiguous tone, "That's an Awakening Stone."
Lu Zheng furrowed his eyebrows.
"Awakening Stone?"
The mysterious voice went quiet.
Lu Zheng felt like the name of that stone was grandiose, tempting him to obtain it because he really felt it was the treasure with the highest worth.
However, with great reward comes great risk.
He could not help but ask, "Is that safe?"
"..."
The mysterious voice did not respond.
As Lu Zheng was contemplating whether he should get it or not, the Awakening Stone suddenly exploded with white blinding light.
Lu Zheng lost his vision, making him panic.
Unknowingly, the Awakening Stone flew toward him, colliding with his chest as it sank in and disappeared inside his body.
