Chapter 36 - Chapter 36:A Father’s Struggle and Ryan’s Reckoning

The hospital room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the machines monitoring Mary's condition. Mark sat by her bedside, holding her hand and whispering words of encouragement. He refused to leave her side, convinced that his presence would somehow bring her back to them.

Meanwhile, in the waiting area, Mr. David paced back and forth, his brow furrowed in deep worry. Emily sat on one of the chairs, her hands clasped tightly together as she prayed silently. The doctor had informed them earlier that Mary's condition was critical, and further treatment was necessary to stabilize her. However, the cost of the treatment was more than they could afford.

Mr. David, a mechanic with modest earnings, had already spent all the savings he and Emily had set aside. The situation felt hopeless, but he refused to give up.

"I'll find the money, Emily," he said firmly, gripping his wife's shoulder. "No matter what it takes."

Emily nodded, tears streaming down her face. "She's our little girl. We can't lose her."

Mr. David reached out to his closest friends, explaining the dire situation. He called colleagues, old friends, and even distant relatives, swallowing his pride to ask for help. Every small contribution brought him closer to the amount needed, but it still wasn't enough.

In the late hours of the night, he received a call from an old friend, Mr. Johnson, who agreed to loan him the remaining money. Relieved but exhausted, Mr. David thanked him profusely and promised to pay it back as soon as he could.

The next morning, Mr. David hurried to the hospital and handed over the payment to the administrative desk. The staff assured him that the treatment would proceed immediately. As the doctors began their work, he returned to Emily and Mark with renewed hope.

"The treatment has started," he told them. "She's going to be okay."

Mark smiled faintly, his eyes filled with tears. "Thank you, Dad."

While Mary was being cared for, another storm was brewing for Ryan. Sophie and Uncle John's evidence had not only exposed Mona but had also implicated Ryan in the scheme. Following Mona's arrest, the police tracked Ryan down at his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, Ryan's parents, were startled when officers knocked on their door that morning. Mrs. Grace Campbell, a corporate executive, and Mr. John Campbell, a high-powered lawyer, had spent years focusing on their careers while showering Ryan with money but little else.

"What's this about?" John demanded as the officers explained the situation.

"Your son, Ryan, is being arrested for his involvement in a blackmail and harassment case," one officer stated.

Ryan, who had been lounging in the living room, froze. "What? No! I didn't do anything!"

The officers ignored his protests and placed him in handcuffs. Grace turned to her husband, panic evident on her face. "This can't be happening. He's just a kid!"

But the officer's next words silenced her. "Ma'am, your son's actions have caused severe harm to another student, who is now in a coma. This is a serious matter."

At the police station, Grace and John sat across from their son in the interrogation room. For the first time in years, they looked at Ryan not as a spoiled child, but as someone who had made choices that led to devastating consequences.

"Why, Ryan?" Grace asked, her voice trembling. "Why would you do something like this?"

Ryan shrugged, his bravado fading. "I don't know. Mona said it was just a joke, and I didn't think it would go this far."

John leaned forward, anger flashing in his eyes. "Do you realize what you've done? Someone's life is at risk because of your actions!"

Ryan's head dropped, guilt washing over him. "I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt. I just… I didn't think so."

The Campbells left the station that night, their minds heavy with regret. They realized how their neglect had contributed to Ryan's behavior. For years, they had believed that money and freedom were enough, never taking the time to guide him or teach him right from wrong.

As they drove home in silence, Grace finally spoke. "We failed him, John. We failed as parents."

John sighed. "We have to do better. For him, and for the people he's hurt."

Back at the hospital, Mary's condition began to improve slowly. The doctors informed her family that the treatment was working, but her recovery would take time.

For Mr. David and Emily, the road ahead was still uncertain, but they found solace in knowing that their daughter was getting the care she needed. As for Ryan, his reckoning had only just begun. His parents' wealth and influence couldn't shield him from the consequences of his actions, and for the first time, he would have to face the reality of his choices.

In a world where second chances were rare, both families would have to learn how to rebuild—one with hope and determination, and the other with regret and accountability.
