Chapter Twelve
"You called, boss" Lucas said..
"Get some coffee for Mrs Blackwood, would you?" He said. He smirked and turned to me and I immediately felt disgusted that he had called me that.
But it was the truth anyways..
I had now became Mrs Blackwood, for a year..
That was going to be sure an adventure and although I was a journalist who's job was to explore and find things out, I didn't like this type of adventures..
I breathed in and turned back to Julian..
"So what's next now?" I asked.
Lucas walked out of the office and Julian turned to me with the same evil smirk.
"You move in with me so I can keep a close eye on you" he said.
"What? Why is that necessary?" I asked..
"Don't husband and wife stay together, huh.. dumpling?" He said. His smirk was rather annoying now than evil.
"Please don't call me that!" I demanded.
"Okay, wifee. I won't!" He said and my cheeks flushed hearing him call me that- Wifee..
It sounded too informal, as though we were really close as husband and wife..
'What an idoit' I said inwardly.
"I will need to get somethings from my apartment, is that possible?"I asked.
"Fine, but I will still be watching you!" He said and I happily walked towards the door, but I didn't let my happiness show on my face.
"Just pretend I'm the sun, wifee" He added and I rolled my eyes..
Then I walked out of his office..
…
Janet's Pov
A man I his late sixties approached me with a bland smile on his face..
Seeing him made me remember Rory and his blue eyes was just like hers.
He had black silk her like hers although his was already accompanied with some white hair..
But he still looked nice..
"Hello, my granddaughter works her and I would like to see her." He said with his smile still on.
"Do you mean Rory?" I asked to be sure.
"Yes, Aurora Thompson." He said. Since he added her surname I realized that he must really be her relative.
Rory would indeed be excited to hear this, but this days calling her and hoping she would pick was a no luck thing..
"I would love to see her please." He added.
"That won't be possible, sir. She went for a mission for an article, here in New York City, but I have no idea where. And two, she doesn't pick my calls anymore." I replied.
"I just hope she is fine though!" I added.
"What? My Rory is missing?" The man's smile faded and his cheeks turned red in anger.
"I will see if I can talk to the boss about it, sir. You don't need to worry." I said, trying my best to console the man.
He stared at me for a while and it seemed as though he was deep in thoughts before walking back to his car.
I watched him before walking back into the company…
The Lintage Media Broadcasting company was a really busy now, but fortunately the boss wasn't.
I knocked on the door and a second later I heard the boss's voice say, "Come in!"
I walked in and walked over to his desk.
"Good afternoon, sir. I just wanted to know if you have gotten any update from Aurora lately." I said.
The boss didn't bother to look at me and instead continued to read the manual he was with his glasses resting on his nose.
"No, any problem?" He replied without looking up at me..
HIs reply shocked me to bits and I didn't understand why he'd be so relaxed when Rory could be in grave danger.
"What do you mean, sir? What if she is in danger? We have to get a search time to search for her before it to-"
I couldn't complete my words because he interrupted.
"Oh please, she failed with this one so she can basically die for all I care!"
His reply was indeed scary and shocking, and I realized that the media company wasn't as nice with their staff as they called to be..
"What?" I said, shocked to my bones.
"This is absurd! I just can't believe you would say this. You know what, I quit!" I added and walked out of the office immediately to pack up my things.
If the boss could make such a comment then that meant that New York was getting more dangerous by the day.
I got to my desk and began parking my work stuff..
I would have to look for Rory alone even if it took me my job..
It was a useless job anyway.
Being a journalist wasn't safe anymore as dangers flowed around like the wind itself.
I parked everything up and got a taxi to my apartment.
I was going to try telephoning Rory again, and this time I prayed wholely that she would pick..
The taxi stopped at my apartment and after paying the bills I rushed into my apartment.
I grabbed my phone and sat down on the couch, then I began to dial Rory's phone number.
It rang the first time but there was no answer.
The second was the same..
But fortunately at the third time the phone was picked and I heard Rory's voice on the other line.
"Janet.." she called.
"What has gotten into you? Why on earth don't you pick your calls or call back? Do you want go give me a high blood pressure?" I scolded.
"I'm so sorry, Janet. But I've been so busy and there's a lot of things on my head right now. I just need some time to think and I don't want to involve anyone, including you!" Rory replied.
"But why? Why do you have to do this?" I asked. Tears were almost out of my eyes.
"I need to save New York City, Janet." She replied.
"I won't die! Be positive!" She added.
"Okay. I trust you, Rory!" I said.
"Thank you!" She responded.
"An elderly man came to the company today and guess what.." I said..
"What?" Rory asked.
"He said he's your grandfather!" I said.
Rory fell silent for a while and I understood why..
She had always thought she was alone without and family or relative, but now that she knew she wasn't it'd probably make her more blissful.
"Really!" She sounded happy already.
"Yes babe, but I told him you weren't there." I said.
"But where exactly are you, Rory?" I asked.
"I can't tell you that, Janet. I'm sorry!" Rory said and the line was disconnected.
