Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Home

I was coming home from my work. I would say that today, clocking off was rather early. It was afternoon, the sun projecting its light on the streets. It had illuminated the skies yellow. That was a summer day. I was sweating. The roads were full of cars. I walked as I saw the buildings.

I reached my house, ringed the bell. My daughter greeted me warmly. I went to shower. That cold water on a summer day after a shift was very refreshing. I came out of the bathroom and went to the kitchen to prepare food. I saw that there was no salt left. So, I told my daughter Chen Li Ya to go to the market and bring some. I was really grateful that we had a house with two storeys, a good living condition and stable sources of income. Most people did not have these. Especially after the Japanese invasion. Many fled to western China, lost their house or worse.

I walked to the roof to bring down the bed cover that I hanged earlier. Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door. I checked, it was my daughter. She had brought the salt. I then proceeded with my work of carrying the salt to the kitchen.

Li had recently got into her university. Her freshman year is going nicely thus far. She was in the Department of Physics. I have to say she was a brilliant girl. The recent Japanese integration of China has made fluency in both written and spoken Japanese obligatory. Although it was not forced, obtaining a job without it was impossible. She wished to leave the nation and pursue a Ph.D. in the United States after finishing her academic studies. She wanted to transform the world. A soft heart could not withstand the sorrows of the impoverished. She wanted to work in green energy, which was ever so popular at the time. Being only nineteen, she was very energetic and happy.

I cooked our meal.

It was about 8:30pm. My husband came from his work. He called my twelve-year-old son and asked him if he had done his seventh grade homework or not. Chen Wang replied in the affirmative.

After my husband had a bath, we four sat together in a low laying table in the floor with cushions instead of chairs. I had prepared the dinner. My son then proceeds to turn on the T.V. We all see the news:

"Welcome to Honk Kong T.V....

You are watching the night report. These are the headlines:

Japan is in economic crisis....

3 people from moon safely returns to earth

East Indies and Indian civil war is still ongoing

...

.....

On 10th July 1965, today, the Japanese Empire fell to and economic pitfall. Experts speculate that this may affect the entire Greater East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere. Major company stocks are already declining in Guangdong. These companies include Sony, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, and others. The most devastating blow was received at Yasuda where more than 90% of their stock value has declined. This sudden collapse is causing crime all over the sphere. Several store shooting in Seoul has occurred. At least 10 people are dead.

The German rocked Entdeckung landed on the moon yesterday and was broadcasted to over 2 billion people worldwide. The crew consisting of 3 members came to earth safely today at 3:00AM local time. The capsule landed on the Atlantic Ocean and was recovered via a ship.

The Bengal War of Independence and East Indies civil war at Malaysia is still raging. Japan and China has sent troops to both of the theatres. Supporting the Bengal communists and the territories of Japan at the Johor area. Sony, Mitsubishi and Nissan has provided the military of these nations with various weapons such as the Type-5 Kami tank, Tomodachi attack helicopter and various IFVs. 3 divisions of infantry personnel and 2 Tank brigade has been sent by the Legislative Council of Guangdong(L.C.G.) to Bengal to fight against Indian forces.

After watching the news, Zi Hao looked shocked. He owned shares in Yasuda. He had lost a considerable amount of money, but not that much. Furthermore, he worked there. He tells me that he should hold on the shares, hoping that they would go up again.

We then finished our dinner and went onto our respective rooms to sleep.

  1. The State of Guangdong does not have any traditional form of government. Instead, it is run by the Legislative Council of Guangdong, L.C.G. for short. It is a cabinet of 90+1 representatives of 5 of the leading megacorporations in the Japanese market. One of them is the elected president of the council. Each representative is allowed to vote freely.
