Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Echoing Abyss

The path ahead was nothing like Jin-Seok had expected. The serenity that followed the Tempest's Trial didn't last long. As the sky cleared above him, an unnerving stillness took hold. The wind no longer howled, the air no longer crackled with electricity. The world around him felt suffocatingly silent.

Jin-Seok stood at the edge of the plateau, gazing out into the unknown. The horizon seemed endless, a vast emptiness that stretched far beyond the edge of his vision. There was no clear path, no guiding light, only a chasm that seemed to descend into oblivion.

The Thirteenth Floor: The Echoing Abyss

The floor had no physical ground that Jin-Seok could discern. It was as though he stood on the precipice of nothingness, the world around him a vast, endless void. There was no clear direction, no defined goal. Only the overwhelming feeling of isolation and uncertainty.

[System Notification: Thirteenth Floor – The Echoing Abyss Unlocked.]

Objective: Find the Source of the Echo.

Warning: The Abyss will play on your fears.

Jin-Seok's mind whirred as the System's words echoed in his thoughts. The Abyss? What was that supposed to mean? He'd faced enemies that could crush him in an instant, trials that pushed him to his limits, but this… this was different.

He inhaled deeply, steeling himself for whatever awaited him. "There's no turning back now."

Without warning, the ground beneath his feet began to tremble, and a deep, hollow sound reverberated through the air. It wasn't the typical rumble of the Tower shifting, but something far deeper, more resonant.

A voice, distant and haunting, whispered from the darkness.

"Jin-Seok…"

The name seemed to echo in every direction, the voice twisting and warping in his mind. It was a voice he recognized, yet it sounded… off. Almost as if it was an imitation.

"Who's there?" Jin-Seok called into the emptiness. The silence responded, deafening and oppressive.

"Jin-Seok…"

The voice repeated his name, a mocking lilt now present. It was eerily familiar, and yet, the more Jin-Seok thought about it, the more unsettling it became. There was no clear source, but the voice was unmistakable.

The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. It wasn't the first time the Tower had played with his mind, but this felt different. Something about the tone of the voice, the way it reverberated through his very soul, was unnatural.

The Abyss Speaks

The voice continued to call his name, growing louder with each passing second. With every echo, Jin-Seok felt himself being drawn deeper into the Abyss, pulled closer to the darkness that surrounded him. His thoughts began to blur, and he gritted his teeth, trying to block out the voice.

"Focus," he muttered to himself. "It's just another test. The Tower is trying to manipulate me."

As if in response, the voice distorted further.

"Do you think you're ready for what's coming? Do you think you can escape your fate?"

Jin-Seok flinched. Those words were like daggers, digging into the deepest parts of him. He couldn't understand why, but the voice… the voice made him feel weak, as if it knew something about him that even he didn't understand.

"Shut up!" he shouted, his voice breaking through the unnerving silence.

But it was futile. The voice only grew louder, as though the Abyss itself was closing in around him.

"You cannot escape what you are," it taunted. "The God you once were… The chains that bind you. Can you truly break free? Can you truly destroy the Tower?"

Jin-Seok's heart skipped a beat. The voice knew. It knew his secret. He wasn't just any ordinary person trapped in this Tower. He wasn't just an adventurer, a warrior seeking answers. He was more than that.

A god, bound and reborn into a mortal shell.

The Truth Revealed

As the realization dawned on him, the surroundings shifted. The abyssal darkness parted slightly, revealing flashes of his past, moments from a life he could barely remember. The memories were fragmented, disjointed, but they came in waves.

He saw himself, standing tall among gods, unshackled, free. The power he wielded was unimaginable. He could destroy entire realms with a single thought, bend the fabric of existence itself.

But then, the chains appeared.

The gods had bound him, shackling him in this mortal form. They had locked him away, fearing his power, fearing what he might do if left unchecked. But he had been reincarnated into a human, not of his own will, but as a prisoner, a tool for the gods to control.

And now, the Tower. The Tower that held the key to his freedom.

The vision shattered as quickly as it had appeared, the Abyss closing in again. The voice, though still distant, now had a clarity to it. A cruel sense of knowing.

"You are not free, Jin-Seok," it whispered. "You were never meant to be. This Tower is your prison, and you will never escape."

Jin-Seok staggered, his mind racing. He wasn't just a survivor of the Tower's trials—he was its true prisoner. The gods had placed him here, trapped him in this endless cycle of trials and challenges, knowing he would never truly escape.

"NO!" Jin-Seok roared, his voice filled with fury. "I WILL BREAK FREE!"

Facing Himself

As if in response to his cry, the darkness around him twisted and shifted once again. This time, an image appeared before him—a reflection of himself, but twisted, corrupted by the very shadows that surrounded them. It was him, but not him. The person who stood before him was a darker version of Jin-Seok, one consumed by rage, by the very chains that had bound him in the past.

"You will never be free," the shadowed version of himself sneered. "You will always be a prisoner."

Jin-Seok's heart pounded in his chest. He wasn't just fighting the Tower's trials—he was fighting himself. The very chains that had once bound him, the fear that had held him captive, had manifested before him.

"You are nothing but a puppet," the shadow hissed, its eyes glowing with malice. "You will always be a tool for the gods, nothing more."

"No," Jin-Seok whispered, his fists clenching as the pain of the past surged within him. "I will not be your tool. I will destroy this Tower. I will destroy all of it."

The shadow grinned, stepping closer to him. "Then prove it. Show me that you are worthy of your freedom."

The two versions of Jin-Seok clashed in an explosion of energy, their swords clashing in a blinding flash of light and dark. The shockwaves sent ripples through the Abyss, and Jin-Seok's thoughts became a blur of fury and determination. The shadowed version of him fought with brutal force, but Jin-Seok's will was stronger. His resolve was unwavering.

With a final, desperate slash, Jin-Seok cleaved through the shadow's form, and it dissolved into nothingness.

The Path Forward

Breathing heavily, Jin-Seok staggered back, his body trembling from the battle—physically and emotionally. The Abyss had played on his fears, used his doubts against him, but he had overcome it. He had faced the darkness within himself and defeated it.

As the last echoes of the Abyss faded into silence, a path began to form before him—a bridge of light that extended into the vast unknown.

Jin-Seok stood tall, a grim smile crossing his face. "One step closer," he muttered. "But there's still a long way to go."

He stepped forward, his heart resolute, the weight of his true nature burning in his chest. The journey wasn't over. It had only just begun.
