Chapter 1 - THE DIVINE

Eternal Saga: 終焉の支配

In the world of Eternal Saga, there was a time when gods walked among humanity. There was a time when faith was not a distant whisper, but a tangible force that shaped the land. The gods—many in number—ruled over the hearts of men and women, their blessings pouring down like rain upon the earth. Peace prevailed in the heavens, for the gods did not seek dominance but harmony, each one guiding a different part of life, each one fostering hope.

But that time has passed. The world, once bathed in light, now lies in shadow. The gods who once protected humanity have turned away, and the world, unprotected, fell victim to its own flaws.

In the wake of the gods' abandonment, a new breed of deity emerged, each born of humanity's darkest sins. They did not come to protect, to heal, or to guide. They came to destroy. They came to cleanse. They came to watch the suffering unfold.

Horizon-9. A city bound in endless fog, a city that does not sleep. It is here that the condemned are brought. Every year, when a child turns 18, they vanish. It is not a choice they make, nor one they can deny. Taken from their lives, their families, their world, they are thrust into this forsaken place. In this city of endless torment, their fates are sealed.

And above them, the eight gods observe, their eyes burning with judgment, their hands drenched in the sins of the world. These gods are not merciful, nor are they kind. They are the very embodiment of humanity's deepest flaws, twisted by the darkness that grows unchecked within the hearts of men.

Kan'yu (勘幽) – The God of Despair. The fog follows him. It is not a mist, but a suffocating veil that clouds the mind, obscuring the path forward. Kan'yu thrives in hopelessness. He has no need to break the body, for he destroys the soul first. He feeds on despair, on the dark corners of the mind where dreams die and hope falters. His trial is not one of survival, but of endurance. It is a journey through a maze that never ends, a place where time bends, and the soul withers. For those trapped in his realm, there is no escape—only the crushing weight of nothingness, the eternal pull toward oblivion.

Arashi (嵐) – The Goddess of Chaos. Her arrival is heralded by a storm, not of weather, but of disorder. Everything she touches is torn asunder, every rule she creates is upended. Arashi does not need to fight; she is the fight. She is the tempest that knows no direction, the chaos that tears through the world and leaves nothing standing. Her trial is not one of strength, but of survival. She rips away certainty, throws the world into disarray, and watches as the survivors flounder, their every move unpredictable, their every choice tainted by the madness she has created.

Gizan (貪山) – The God of Greed. He is a shadow, a gluttonous beast who sees everything in terms of value. Riches, power, control—these are his toys, and he offers them freely, for a price. Gizan's trial is the temptation of the soul. He lures you in with promises of wealth, but the treasures come with a curse. Each coin you take pulls you deeper into his thrall. Each gem you covet pushes you further from your humanity, until you no longer recognize yourself. The greed eats at you, drives you to betray, to deceive, to sacrifice those you love. And in the end, all that remains is emptiness—a hollow shell, consumed by its own hunger.

Jiko (自己) – The God of Selfishness. He is the embodiment of every dark desire that lurks in the hearts of men. Jiko does not grant wishes. He twists them. His trials are not for the faint of heart, for they demand the most terrible sacrifice: your soul. Jiko offers you everything you want—every desire, every dream you have ever held—but the price is always more than you bargained for. What you crave, what you reach for, turns into something monstrous, a deformed version of your wish. A car that drives itself, a phone that turns into a nightmare. Jiko's game is one of self-deception, of luring you into your own deepest fears. The moment you succumb to selfishness, he devours you, leaving nothing behind but a broken shell.

Itamiko (痛巫女) – The Goddess of Pain. Her name is a whispered curse, for pain is not just her domain—it is her gift, her curse, her very existence. She does not inflict pain with hands or weapons. She does so with memories, with regrets, with past traumas. Her trial is one of suffering—physical, emotional, psychological. It is not the pain of wounds, but the pain of the mind, the soul, the heart. To survive her game is to face the worst of yourself, to endure the impossible. But Itamiko's cruelty is not swift. She draws out the agony, stretching it over time, until the very essence of the soul fractures, splinters, and shatters under the weight of the unbearable.

Shikyo (死境) – The God of Death. He is not the bringer of death, but the keeper of it. Where Shikyo walks, death follows, not as a specter, but as an inevitable force. His trial is a countdown, a race against time. The seconds tick by, each one a reminder that death is waiting, always waiting, just behind you. In his domain, there is no escape. The only question is not if you will die, but how long you will last before the inevitability catches up to you. His realm is a place where the clock is your only companion, and every decision, every breath, is taken with the knowledge that time is running out.

Kageru (影留) – The Goddess of Deception. She is the mask, the illusion, the lie wrapped in a smile. Kageru does not reveal herself in truth. She does not show her hand. She hides it behind the veil of illusion, manipulating the world as if it were her personal plaything. Her trial is a labyrinth of mirrors and lies, where nothing is ever as it seems. In her domain, trust is a lie, and reality is something to be questioned at every turn. She will deceive you, lead you down paths that are false, until the truth is so tangled you no longer know which way to go. And in the end, when you are lost and desperate, she will show her true form—a monstrous being, a creature of nightmare—and she will consume you.

Tenshou (天傷) – The God of Wrath. He is a force of destruction, a tempest of fury that knows no end. His power is not just physical, but emotional—a raw, unrelenting rage that burns through the earth, setting it aflame. His trial is a brutal arena, where every challenge, every obstacle, is meant to break the spirit. Tenshou revels in violence, in the chaos that erupts when his anger is unleashed. But his fury is not just directed at the weak. It is directed at anyone who dares defy him, anyone who tries to challenge his authority. The more you resist, the fiercer he becomes, until there is nothing left but destruction, and you are consumed by the very wrath that you sought to defy.

These gods are not simply rulers—they are torturers, and they will not stop until humanity is utterly broken. They are the living embodiment of all that is wrong with the world, and in their hands, all will fall. The city of Horizon-9, built for their amusement, becomes the proving ground for souls who dare enter their domain.

In this world, there is no salvation. There is only the eternal struggle. The gods—these twisted beings, born from the deepest sins of mankind—have set their trials in motion, and humanity is the prey. But there will be someone, a group, or perhaps just one. There will be those who rise, not in the hopes of salvation, but driven by something deeper. A spark of defiance, a flicker of resistance. These gods showed humanity its worst flaws, but in the end, the gods are still bound by their own darkness.

For all their claims to teach a lesson, all their promises of judgment, the gods do not act out of a desire to save or correct. No. They are not here to reform the world; they are here to entertain themselves. They watch from their thrones, cold eyes gleaming with amusement, as humanity writhes in agony. Their trials are not meant to teach lessons—they are designed to break, to torment, to watch the chaos unfold, as the suffering of those who dare challenge them becomes their only joy.

The gods are not righteous. They are not wise. They are petty, vengeful, and cruel, driven not by justice, but by the dark pleasure of watching others suffer. They took the sins of humanity and turned them into their own twisted stage, each trial a sick game designed not to teach, but to delight in the agony of those caught in their web. They want to see humanity crumble under the weight of its own flaws, to watch the purest souls fall as they are crushed beneath the gods' relentless trials. They made the games not to purge evil from the world—but because they delight in the despair of others.

And yet, in the midst of all this, something stirs. A group, perhaps. Or just one lone soul, driven by a force greater than fear, greater than the desire for mere survival. A flicker of something pure, something that refuses to bow to the gods' cruelty, even in the face of certain death. Perhaps it is a whisper of justice, or a flash of rebellion, or perhaps simply the last remnants of hope that refuse to be extinguished.

For all their power, for all their machinations, the gods have overlooked something—a single spark that cannot be snuffed out. The gods may have created this game, but they are not its true masters. There are those who will prove them wrong. There are those who will show the gods that even in a world built on despair, there is still something worth fighting for. Even if the gods are only playing to pass the time, there will be those who challenge them. And when the gods realize that the true game has only just begun, it may be too late for them to stop it.
