Chapter 1 - A day

"Sir you are fired due to some issues we can't disclose." A woman said as she handed a paper to a young man with black hair and brown eyes. He wondered why he even woke up today and went to work.

He sighed and then smiled. "Very well, say thanks to the boss for hiring me for three straight years"

The woman nodded and then went to her office, the young man slowly walked out of the building with his bag in his arm. He was now jobless so that means he needs to find another job to do or... become a hero.

The youngmans name is Borne and the very thought of becoming a hero made his skin crawl in discomfort, in this world a large population of the world have strange and powerful superpowers, Borne ofcourse has one.

He walked on the street absentmindedly making his way back home, the streets were busy as always and various vehicles were moving along them.

Soon Borne was nearly at his house when he suddenly smelt something burning, he had a gut feeling telling him he should turn around and never look back...but Borne ignored, he walked and finally arrived at his house.

Which was engulfed in flames...and a crowd was formed, Borne gritted his teeth as he saw the fire but what he saw next might have made him go a bit distraught.

On his roof, it was covered with the burning corpses of children. "What the-."

Suddenly his eyes dilated as he realised something, he knew those children...there were from the local orphanage he visits.

Borne's breath hitched as the horrifying realization set in. His mind raced, piecing together what little sense it could make of the situation. Why were they here? Who could have done this? His heart pounded against his ribs, and for a moment, he felt paralyzed, his legs rooted to the pavement as the heat of the flames licked at his face.

His expression became blank, his voice came out deeply. "Who did this?"

An old man who was beside him spoke. "There was a fight between a hero and a villain, the villain took the children as hostages and told the hero to kill himself and he would set them free, the hero did kill himself but the villain didn't keep his words, it's honestly disgusting to see such people go around and mistreating their abilities"

Borne's blank expression suddenly turned into a smile, his eyes once brown were starting to fade into a dull colour, he looked at the burning graveyard, the grotesque and Blasphemous act that was carried out in the premise of his own, the lives of unfortunate children being taken in such a painful and ruthless way.

Suddenly a small insect landed on his shoulder, it was small and resembled a mosquito.

The mosquito felt the emotions being excuded by Borne and it's eyes flashed, suddenly In a nearby town deep within a white cocoon, A bug the size of a small rock finally opened its eyes after a long time, around it was she countless buzzing of mosquitoes.

All the mosquitoes went silent when it woke up.

Borne's ability is MonsterBorn, the ability to make monsters from organic and non organic objects. This was the first creation heade when his powers woke up and also the last.

As the burning house crackled and groaned under the intensity of the flames, Borne's mind spiraled deeper into a dark abyss. He could still hear the laughter of those orphans echoing in his memory—moments of innocence, joy, and trust now reduced to ash and agony.

The mosquito on his shoulder seemed to quiver as if feeding on his seething rage. Its faint hum resonated unnaturally in his ears. Borne's smile widened, but it wasn't one of mirth. It was an expression of something darker, something primal. "It seems humans have become too confident, hey looks like I found a good use to my seemingly cursed power, Hey Misk, it's been a long time huh and I have been neglecting you a bit, how about you bring the corpses of ten queen need and I can evolve you, you can also bring something you like to add to your body"

Back at the cave the bug clicked it's mandibles with excitement, it had been stagnant in growth for the last ten years and blood didn't make it grow any longer and the most thing it was happy with was, it's master was finally talking to it.

It truly is a joyful day for the Mosquito queen, it commanded all its drones to do as it's master said and then turned its attention to her master.

Later that day Borne could be seen talking to the police. "Sir this was your house right? The Hero Association is solely responsible for this incident and will compensate you properly and then there's also the trauma fee which they will also pay back, but sir I am really sorry you witnessed that after coming back from work, it must be tough on you."

Borne wasn't in the mood to talk, he was muttering somethings under his breath as he watched the corpses of the children being taken away by the ambulancea. "Little Mary is dead, Adrien is dead, Malts is dead,Sam is dead,Miss Diana is also dead, I don't see Cory so...so she must still be alive."

Suddenly Borne placed both his hands on the police officers shoulder and looked at him with a frantic expression in his eyes. "Was there another kid in the orphanage who survived?!"

The officer looked taken aback by Borne's sudden outburst. He hesitated for a moment, glancing at his notes. "There was… one child unaccounted for. A young girl named Cory. We're not sure if she survived or if—"

"She's alive," Borne interrupted, his voice steady and cold. "She has to be."

The officer frowned but nodded cautiously. "We have teams searching the area. If she made it out, we'll find her."

Borne let go of the officer, his mind racing. If Cory had escaped, she might be hiding nearby—or worse, still in the hands of whoever orchestrated this atrocity. His fists clenched as a creeping sensation itched at the back of his mind. The mosquito on his shoulder buzzed softly, its faint vibrations soothing and maddening all at once.

"Master," a voice whispered in his mind, low and insectile. It was Misk, the Mosquito Queen. "The drones have found something. Blood… faint but fresh. East of the city. Near the industrial zone. Shall I send scouts?"

Borne's heart pounded, and he nodded almost imperceptibly. "Yes. Find her, Misk. And if you sense anyone near her… don't hesitate."

Misk hummed with delight, its connection to Borne vibrating with newfound purpose. "As you command, Master."

The officer gave him a concerned look. "Sir, are you feeling okay? You're pale. If you need support—"

"I'm fine," Borne said curtly, his voice devoid of emotion. He stepped away, turning his back to the scene. "Just… let me know if you find anything."

Without another word, he walked off, his mind a whirlwind of dark determination. He didn't have time to wait for the police or the so-called Hero Association to fix this. They were the ones who failed in the first place. He'd find Cory himself. And when he did, he'd make sure she was safe—no matter the cost.

As Borne left the scene, the setting sun cast a weak glow in the horizon, Borne was in a horrible mood he didn't care about his house but for someone to have the audacity to sacrifice children, Borne wasn't going to let such a person die that easily.

A drone landed on his shoulder and Misk spoke. "Master I see traces of blood, I have surrounded the area with one million drones, they are all currently staying silent"

Borne stayed silent. "I wonder if I can make a monster using the corpse of a superhuman, maybe they'd keep their abilities...ah anyways since Misk is my first creation I never made any more monsters"

Misk buzzed in his mind with excitement. "Master, if you wish to experiment, I can gather subjects for you. There are many who deserve to be nothing more than tools for your power. Shall I begin the harvest?"

Borne smirked faintly, his eyes cold. "Not yet. Focus on Cory first. If she's still alive, I need her safe before we start anything else. As for those responsible…" He trailed off, his fists clenching. "They'll be the ones I'll test this theory on."

The streets began to clear as night fell, the city's bustling life winding down. Borne moved with purpose, his dark coat billowing in the chilly air. He made his way toward the industrial zone, following the faint directions Misk relayed through their shared connection.

As he approached the outskirts of the city, the atmosphere grew oppressive. The industrial zone was quiet, the hum of machinery replaced by an eerie silence. The faint scent of blood hung in the air, guiding him closer.

Misk's voice broke the quiet in his mind. "Master, I've located the source of the blood. It's coming from an abandoned warehouse up ahead. Two individuals are inside. One… matches the child's description...but hmmm. The other is an adult, heavily armed. Shall I proceed with caution?"

Borne's lips curled into a snarl. "No. Keep her safe. If that bastard tries anything, tear him apart."

"Understood," Misk responded, its drones buzzing into formation around the warehouse, invisible in the darkness.

Borne stepped forward, his presence cloaked in the quiet malice of a man on a mission. The warehouse loomed before him, its rusted walls and shattered windows standing as a testament to neglect. The faint glow of a flickering light seeped through the cracks, casting distorted shadows onto the pavement.

Borne pushed open the creaking door, its groan echoing through the vast emptiness. The air inside was thick with the metallic scent of blood and oil. His footsteps were slow and deliberate as he stepped inside, his gaze sweeping across the dimly lit space.

In the center of the room, a young girl sat on the ground, her back was turned to Borne and he could hear her sobbing.

Borne slowly walked towards her. "Cory are you okay, I know it's scary but don't worry you'll be ok, I am here after all"

Cory continued Sobbing, Borne was now looking down at her, she was till crying, Borne's heart was beating wildly. He bent down and then placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hey Cory let's go home, your cold"

Cory turned around, Borne froze as an expression of pure horror was etched into his face, Cory's face was pale, her eyes were hollow and bleeding and she had a large grin on her face.

"....Master she's not alive I think, but this is strange the villain who killed those other kids can control fire and also supernatural strength, I don't think it has reanimation?" Misk said into his mind with mild curiousity.

Borne's mentally at this moment was broken. "Hey, did you get what I told you to get earlier, give me one of the bodies that is close to my proximity, I'll upgrade you later"

"You mean the queen bees?, I have a group of drones who are carrying one here" Misk said slowly.

Bornw stood up from the floor. "Thanks, now can you immobilise that other person you felt earlier and bring him here."

"Borne who are you talking to, also I'm not dead you're so mean, this is my power...I think?" Cory said with uncertainty, she stood up from the floor and wiped her skirt, her silver hair was covered in dirt but she soon dusted it off.

Borne froze. "... Your power, wait why were you grinning then?"

"well I was talking to my imaginary friend, he protected me from the bad man outside

but then he told me not to move until you came. He said you'd know what to do." Cory looked up at him with those hollow, bleeding eyes. Despite her ghastly appearance, her voice sounded innocent, almost normal. It sent a shiver down Borne's spine.

Borne took a deep breath, his mind reeling as he tried to process what she was saying. "Imaginary friend?" he repeated cautiously. "What does he look like, Cory?"

She tilted her head, her silver hair falling to one side as she smiled. "He's tall, really tall. And he doesn't have a face… just a big, blank head. But he's nice to me. He stopped the fire from hurting me and made the bad man leave for a while."

Borne exchanged a mental glance with Misk, who hummed thoughtfully. "Master this kind of abilities are referred to as Psycho-Kinesis, normally these abilities make people develop a mental problem."

Borne's gaze never left Cory as she spoke, his mind racing. Psycho-Kinesis? The power to manipulate the mind, to create invisible allies, to project thoughts and illusions? He had seen strange abilities in this world before, but nothing quite like this.

"An imaginary friend…" Borne muttered under his breath, his thoughts darkening. It seemed Cory's power had manifested in a way that blurred the lines between reality and illusion, and what was worse, it was controlling her perception of safety. This 'friend' of hers might have been responsible for protecting her, but it didn't explain her current state—pale, hollow eyes, and that unsettling grin. Something was very wrong.

"What about your eyes." Borne asked slowly.

"Oh well, I don't know how it became like this but I can still see normaly" she said with a smile.
