Chapter 33 - Chapter 33 - Unit Assignment (2)

Haaa. What the hell kinda plot is this.

First of, so many things had already shifted from the normal plot of the novel.

First of all in the novel, Nathan was not in Class B. He was supposed to be in Class C. With the difference in schedules, he and Natasha couldn't be as close which is how Natasha got close with Lucas.

Secondly, Nathan wasn't supposed to be in this group as he wasn't even in Class B. Natasha was the one who was supposed to be in Unit 3.

That's where her and Lucas began to grow closer and allat.

But now that's probably not happening and while I am glad it doesn't go down that route, now I have to deal with the protagonist.

Arrrgh. I ruffled my hair in frustration before sinking into the back seat of the vehicle I was currently in.

"You okay?" I turned to see Natasha beside me looking at me with her eyebrow slightly raised in a mix of curiosity and concern.

"I'm fine," I waved my hand at her telling her not to worry.

"Hmmm". She just narrowed her eyes, her gaze seemingly piercing through my very being.

"You know, for a while now, over the past two to three weeks or so, you've been acting strange. Like weirder than usual strange." She said.

"Haa. You worry too much. I said I'm fine," I said trying to ease off her suspicion.

But it didn't seem like she was buying it as she simply narrowed her eyes even further.

She then shrugged her shoulders before saying, "OK. If you say so," before wearing her headphones.

Knowing her, she probably figures something's wrong and I would rather not tell her, so she's probably pissed.

Not that I blame her, afterall she and Nathan never really kept secrets from each other before.

Yeah sorry about that. But it's not really my fault.

Afterall, I couldn't exactly tell her that I'm not necessarily the Nathan she knows, but rather I'm someone else from another world who simply has Nathan's memories now can I.

"Sir, we're here." The driver said snapping me out of my thoughts as he opened the door for me.

"Oh." I got out of the car and stared at the apartment complex.

Man. The academy really doesn't know the word restraint do they.

"So um.. I'm going to meet my Unit, talk on the phone later?" Natasha said.

"Huh? Oh yeah. Yeah." I responded although that last yeah was a bit quiet.

She then walked towards building 2, one of the buildings for the first years.

DING

[River Stone, created a group chat for Unit 3 on August 7, 3060]

[You have been added]

Oh. Looking at the notification on my phone, that was what came to mind. So she's created the group chat huh.

Before I left the classroom, all of us got our unit assignment via email and so most people just got each other's number to create a group chat for their Unit members.

River, a member of my Unit, approached me and asked for my number to create the group.

I'd given it to her, of course, because what else was I supposed to do? Say no? Yeah, not happening.

And now here we are. A group chat with four other people I barely knew—infact some I didn't know at all. Like that River girl.

I then stared at my screen, looking to see who would speak first.

It didn't take long at all.

[River Stone: Hey everyone! Name's River. I guess we're all in Unit 3 together. Nice to meet you.

Lucas Draken: Hello.

Marcus Draden: Hey.

Maria Greensworth: Hi! My name's Maria. Really excited to be working with all of you! Let's do our best!

You: Hello. Pleased to be part of the unit.]

I typed my response in a polite tone. I obviously didn't mean it and just said what was expected of me.

Afterall the last thing I needed was to come off sounding rude or uncooperative, even if being stuck with these guys for the foreseeable future just made me want to groan.

[River Stone: So, since we're going to be working together, I was thinking we could all meet up in person. Maybe at my apartment? We can then get to know each other from there and then start planning our future mission exercises and whatnot. So what do you guys think?

Maria Greensworth: That sounds like a great idea! I'm in!

Lucas Draken: Fine by me.

Marcus Draden: Whatever.

You: Sure.]

I stared briefly at my reply before hitting the send button. I mean it's not like I had a better idea.

Honestly tho, I don't really mind or care what we did. I mean, if they wanted to meet up, sure. If not, I'm cool either way. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Afterall I'm just a chill guy.

[River Stone: Great! Let's meet today then. I'll send you my address soon. See you in three hours]

I put my phone back inside my pocket, releasing a heavy sigh.

This was going to be... interesting. Lucas was as distant as the novel described him in the beginning, while Marcus was still the snobbish twat.

As for Maria. Haaa. Her enthusiasm is as the novel described. It was on par infact with Natasha's.

Haa. You're kidding. Now I have to deal with Natasha 2.0. And I don't even like this one.

Anyway tho, River seems like a nice enough girl, although it was kinda difficult to know how she'll be once we start working together.

As for me? Well I'll play along... for now. I'll be polite, do my part and keep my head down. That's all I'll do. For now anyway.

Afterall this unit, I could already tell, was the type to easily get in trouble.
