Chapter 2 - The beginning of the story (I was born into a family)

In the port of Los Angeles in the year 2023, a terrifying tableau unfolds near a cruise ship on a yacht. The scene is bleak, with bodies strewn about in various states of death. Upon reaching the upper level, I encounter a man in his early thirties, his hair and eyes pitch black. Despite his injuries and bleeding, his expression is one of indifference, his gaze harsh and contemptuous, as if he is observing something vile. This is Ron, the protagonist. In front of him, a bound and blindfolded man kneels, exuding pure terror. Ron uncovers the man, revealing Marcus, a man in his forties who is known worldwide as the head of a powerful Italian mafia. His fearful demeanor is shocking to those who know him. I stare at Marcus with murderous intent. This vile man is behind the deaths of Jack and Selina. Even though I know they will be reincarnated, my anger flares. How dare he threaten my family? With a wicked smile that unnerves Marcus, I brandish a knife. "Please, have mercy on me. I didn't mean to kill them. They attacked us first and killed a thousand of our men. We were simply defending ourselves. I'll give you everything I have, just show mercy," Marcus pleads, trembling. His pleas fall on deaf ears. I approach him, making sure to prolong his agony by skillfully flaying his skin without ending his life, then severing his limbs before finishing him off. Exhausted and wounded, I mutter, "Another life ended. And yet, I still have no family." Then he commits suicide. Moments later, I find myself in a familiar, comforting void of pitch blackness, thinking, "Damn, here I am again." This is where Jack, Selena, and I meet before reincarnation. When one of us dies, we wait here for the others to join us so we can be reborn together. I open an unusual door and find Jack, a tall, muscular man with a friendly smile, standing next to Selena, a beautiful woman with golden hair and green eyes, who is clearly scolding him. I join them, saluting Selena and Jack, and scolding a smiling Jack for his recklessness. "I only attacked because they tried to molest Selena," I say. "But that's no excuse for going head-to-head with two thousand people. We're human, after all. You may have killed a thousand, but you were bound to die," Jack says. "But if I were you, Ron, I wouldn't have perished even against five thousand." I proudly proclaim my uniqueness, prompting Selena to slap my head and call me arrogant. After some playful banter, a deep sadness crosses my face. Jack and Selena ask about my plight. "I want a family," I confess. "Although you consider me family, I long for parents and siblings. I long for familial affection. Despite being a thousand years old, I've never called anyone mom or dad." They hug me and reassure me: "Don't be sad, Ron. We are your family. Even though reincarnation is random and often separates us across countries, we always find each other. Or do you not love us and consider us family?" I quickly reassure them: "Of course not, I am just lonely. Well, in my next life, I will look for a girlfriend. What do you think?" Jack agrees enthusiastically, joking: "Great idea! At least you will finally have a girlfriend, old man," while Selina bursts into laughter, which annoys me even more. I tease him, reminding him of when he begged Selina to be his wife, and Selina confirms my words, joining in on Jack's teasing. After some time of reminiscing and joking, I say: "It's about time." Then a bright light appears, and I find myself a child again. "I really hate baby bodies," I say. Still, there is no escape. Where was I born this time? In a dumpster, under a random bridge, on a sidewalk, or in an orphanage. I look around to see a white room, and guess by the medicinal smell it's a hospital room. Then I think, excitement building inside me, "Can I have a family this time?" Then I remind myself, "Calm down, Ron, don't get your hopes up. This isn't the first time I've been born in a hospital." It turns out my mother died giving birth to me, and I don't have a father. Still, I hope this life is different.
