Torune frowned as he searched for Kaji. His master might have thought he hid his pain from the ramen chefs, but he knew something was wrong. They'd been training together for a long time now and he not only knew that Kaji was far stronger than him, but also how he acted.
"Naruto, restock the French dessert section!"
The insect user paused and backed out of the area the moment he heard Kaji's false name. He didn't need to risk getting any closer. Kaji would have already caught his scent by now so he decided to wait until Kaji could come to meet him.

Kaji smiled slightly as a familiar scent wafted past his nose. He could tell Torune was nearby. Unfortunately, another scent assaulted his senses.
"Need something, Kakashi-sensei?" Naruto asked as he collected the desserts that he needed to restock the shelves.
Kakashi, who was a little surprised that the blonde noticed him, chuckled sheepishly, "I just wanted to talk to you. I've been thinking about … Have you ever thought about your parents, Naruto?"
"Of course," Naruto said not revealing that smirk on his lips.
It was only a matter of time before this conversation came up. Why else would the Hokage risk telling Kakashi about Minato at all? He wants Kakashi to smooth the decoy over. It probably helps that Kakashi didn't seem to be aware that the real Naruto has been dead for a long time now.
An eager Kakashi put the book in his pocket, "What have you thought about? Maybe what it'd be like if one of your parents were still alive?"
Naruto sighed, "Yes, but they're dead." He said calmly knowing that it was true.
Torune managed to confirm it a couple of years earlier. In a town not too far away a record was found of a family murdered by bandits. That incident was about 13 years old and one of the victims was a blonde boy about 4 or 5 years old. A boy who looked exactly like Kaji did at that age and without whisker marks. With the timing and knowledge of everything behind the scenes , it seemed likely that this was a piece of his real parents that was left from the cover-up.
"It's impossible to know what life would be like if they never died," Naruto said as he carried the desserts out.
Kakashi followed Naruto, "What if one of them returned one day?" He asked, sounding too eager or too desperate to convince Naruto of something.
"At this point, it wouldn't matter if one of them revealed themselves to be alive either. I've grown up without them and if that was the case they abandoned me. Why welcome the bastards back?" Naruto said both internally laughing and slightly annoyed.
The amusement came from seeing a vein on Kakashi's temple pulse. Clearly, his lazy sensei wasn't happy that Naruto wasn't saying what he wanted. It didn't help that his words inadvertently insulted Minato, which definitely annoyed Kakashi. Of course, did he really expect it to be easy?
As for Naruto's own annoyance. That came from the lack of help. If Kakashi was so eager to convince him to be the good son then maybe Kakashi could help with the restocking.
Sadly, no. Despite tagging along, Kakashi was only interested in talking and not helping.
"But what if there was a good reason for not being in your life?" Kakashi asked solemnly before dragging Naruto into a quiet side hallway. "Right? If it was a good, potentially medical based, reason would it be forgivable? Wouldn't it be nice to go back to the way things were?"
A completely dumbfounded Naruto turned and looked down at the shorter sensei, "As far as I know going back to the way things were would mean me becoming a screaming baby and a nine-tailed demon running around free. I kind of like the height I'm at so I'd prefer not to 'go back'." He commented jokingly. Unfortunately, Kakashi didn't find it funny.
Kakashi sighed, "I didn't mean it like that. Just think. You could have a father again. Why not bond and learn from him?"
A nasty burning feeling started growing in his chest again and it was making the demon irritated, "You can't say 'again' if I never knew him in the first place and what purpose will it serve?" "Haven't you noticed I've never been allowed to fight or go on any missions higher than C-rank? When things get messy Sakura and Sasuke step in, which is nice, but aren't we all genin? Shouldn't we actually work as a team? I met Shino not long ago and you, sensei, never mentioned a chunin exam or tree climbing. I realized I was never taught by you so why learn from a man I never met? Most likely another convenient thing comes up preventing such learning … It is odd how many disruptions there have been, don't you agree? One might think I'm not allowed to advance." He leaned back to look Kakashi in the eye. "Speaking of, would my father approve of the way you 'trained' me?" He asked, playing along with the story everyone wanted him to believe.
Seeing that Kakashi was absolutely speechless, Kaji left. He managed to find a closet and closed himself inside. Suddenly, the pain went higher and the fiery feeling spread throughout his body. He started getting blurry vision and then a haze came over his mind. Only the loud cracking sound of something breaking was able to snap him out of his daze. Unfortunately, Sasuke heard it too.
"What did you break, idiot?" An exasperated Uchiha murmured through the door.
"Door handle cracked. I'll fix it." Naruto pressed out as he forced the painful heat to subside.
"Hurry up then." Naruto gritted his teeth to stop himself from growling when Sasuke didn't leave. "By the way. There was an issue with my hotel room so I'm staying with you tonight. We'll just share the bed." Sasuke said before finally leaving.
Something about that comment made the burning feeling flare up slightly. It took Naruto another few minutes to suppress the pain. When he finally did, his vines let go of the now crushed door handle, which fell to the floor.
"It's getting worse each time," Naruto murmured softly as he absentmindedly grabbed some cleaning supplies. "I need to … get help." He said still feeling a haze over his senses.
It didn't even occur to him that the door was wedged into place because of the handle breaking. He just casually pushed it and it broke open. Thankfully, no one, even Naruto, realized the state the demon was in until he heard his real name.
"Master Kaji?" Kaji suddenly realized he was deep in the forest and with Torune. He only vaguely recalled making up an excuse to get away and making a clone in a bathroom, "Master, you're burning up." Kaji heard the insect user's voice and realized Torune had removed his goggles.
The second Kaji felt cool fingertips against his skin he snapped. In a flash, his vines grabbed the pale wrists. Torune was quickly pulled flush against Kaji's strong chest.
"Torune … I can't control it anymore." Kaji groaned into the pale neck.
For a moment Torune thought he understood what the problem was. After all, Kaji's need for human flesh has increased slightly as he grew up. Ayame, Teuchi, Kaji, and Torune all wondered if one day he'd start craving fresh living meat. It hasn't happened yet, but maybe that's what's happening now.
