When did such a character appear in Huaizhou City?
Song Zijian's eyes sparkled with an odd excitement, the greedy gleam of a wolf sighting its prey.
Soon, the BMW roared as it chased after them.
Although the speedometer was already pointing at 170 mph, that splash of red was still closely behind in the rearview mirror. Ye Tian inwardly groaned; there was no helping it. This Toyota Camry might be a luxury configuration, but compared to a four-wheel-drive BMW, it was practically a powerless toy car.
He had just used a method of sudden stopping to delay, but as Ye Tian had predicted, the Toyota, due to its low initial speed at startup, couldn't widen the distance at all and was quickly caught up to.
Alright, this was the only option left.
"Okay, stop pushing yourself... Brake, there's a sharp turn ahead, don't rush. Hey, brake, brake! Brake!! Ah!!!"
A woman's scream echoed through the entire highway.
Lightly pressing the accelerator, turning left, pulling the handbrake, his movements smooth and graceful, the nearly five-meter-long Toyota Camry completed an elegant drift. Tang Su covered her eyes and did not see any of it; when she opened her eyes, she just saw Ye Tian slapping his chest and gasping for air. "Scared me to death, almost mistaking the brake for the accelerator again... Why are you hitting me!"
"I want to get out!"
"Sister Tang, this is the highway; if you get out here, are you looking to die?"
"You..." Tang Su felt helpless against this eccentric character, simply turning her head away, no longer paying him attention.
Ye Tian gently pressed on the gas pedal, trying to get a feel for the car's performance. Fortunately, although it doesn't sound good to say, Japanese cars do have better performance than domestic ones. After the sudden stops and the just-executed drifting turn, the car's performance seemed to have improved through the ordeal, though it was also seriously strain. Feeling the low growl of the BMW's engine from behind, Ye Tian couldn't help but heave a sigh; the 3.6L displacement was no bluff.
Clearly not expecting the Toyota Camry to pull off such a beautiful, nearly perfect drift, Song Zijian felt as if someone had firmly slapped his face. In Huaizhou's car-playing circle, he was top dog—whether it was racing or customizing, his presence, Song Zijian, was undeniable. Eight years in the game, what incredible drivers hadn't he seen? But today, this guy named Ye Tian gave him a real shock. If the challenging angles of the sudden braking could still be managed with practice, then that nearly perfect drift could only be attributed to talent; the unrelenting speed, the unmarked road surface, and the impeccable balance were something only an old hand with decades of driving could achieve, in Song Zijian's view.
"Is he really a river-crossing dragon?"
Muttering to himself, the BMW roared as it chased after them again.
"Sister Tang, has this highway been renovated in the past five years?" Glancing at the rearview mirror, thankfully, it hadn't caught up; the gap that had opened up was still decent.
Puzzled, Tang Su furrowed her delicate brows and asked, "Why do you ask?"
Ye Tian, a tad exasperated by the typical hassle of women, patiently explained, "If I remember correctly, this highway in Huaizhou was constructed five years ago with a service life of ten years, but due to force majeure, there are four sharp turns on this stretch. The first one was made due to a rupture in the soil layer that forced a detour; the next three are consecutive, built around a mountain because the mountain blocked the path, so they followed the depression to sculpt out three sharp turns. We just passed the first one, and there are three more to go. See, we have already shaken that Song off a bit." While talking, Tang Su noticed a childlike triumphant expression on his face.
"You mean... shake him off with a sharp turn?"
"Otherwise, what do you plan to do? Try to race your beaten-up Toyota against his modified BMW X6 in a straight line? You'd be crushed to death."
There it is, that disgusting face again. Tang Su turned her head away, ignoring him, and Ye Tian caught a glimpse of a beautiful profile.
"So it hasn't been modified, good to know! Let's go...Oh dear, I almost stepped on the brakes again!"
The Toyota's longer body made it a decent choice for family and business use, but it was a major drawback in racing and speeding events. The excessive length made handling during elegant turns very shaky, and the heavy front end required a lot of fine control to balance out the enormous inertia when entering turns. Tang Su didn't understand all this, and thought Ye Tian's frantic behavior was due to his lack of driving skills.
Sure enough, another sharp turn was ahead, almost U-shaped, with mountains on either side, the rocks looking like Little Ghosts waiting to reap lives, and the white median strip in between the mountains seemed so frail.
Glancing at the rearview mirror and seeing the BMW that had just caught up, a smile crept onto Ye Tian's lips.
"What are you trying to do! Listen to me, we're not racing anymore, let him chase, brake! Bra... Ahhh!!!"
The sharp sound of tire friction against the ground echoed throughout the valley, mixed with Tang Su's scream.
Entering the turn, the front of the car was almost sliding tightly along the mountainside, Tang Su covered her face, not daring to look, shaking uncontrollably.
The second bend, the car body shook violently, which was due to readjusting after coming out of the turn. Ye Tian gripped the steering wheel tightly, praying that the car wouldn't fall apart. After all, this thing is not as sturdy as a tank. Finally, after the third bend, the view widened, and the screaming Tang Su clung tightly to the handrail, not daring to budge, much like Ye Tian who gets carsick on Chaoyang Road.
It was only after three consecutive sharp turns that Song Zijian managed to drive into the first one. By the time he got through the third, besides the scattered leaves on the ground, there was no sign of the black Toyota. The white median stood alone on the road, trembling slightly in the breeze.
The car left no trace!
"Which one is the brake again!! I can't find it..."
"The one on the left! Right, right, that one... step on it! Ahh!!!"
Accompanied by the woman's scream, the smoking Toyota sedan finally came to a stop. Tang Su's hair was disheveled from the sudden braking, and her breathing was rapid due to her accelerated heartbeat, causing the two mounds covered by her white shirt to heave substantially, Ye Tian couldn't help but sneak peeks, enjoying the unexpected blessing. God has been good to me after all!
Due to the engine overheating from the high-speed driving, they had to wait a while. If the engine didn't cool down thoroughly, Ye Tian and she would only be able to take a tow truck back.
"Have you had enough?" Unexpectedly, when Ye Tian sneaked another peek, he was caught by Tang Su, her scolding made him feel quite embarrassed, "Who sent you here?"
Hmm?
"Don't play dumb with me, I can't believe someone who has never driven before could have such good driving skills. Ye Tian, no one is a fool, I couldn't see through you since the day you arrived. I can avoid digging into your past, present, and future, but you're my bodyguard now, and you already know a lot about me, I can't believe someone with such a brilliant mind would be content to be just my driver." A brilliant mind always adds an extraordinary charm to a woman. Tang Su was that kind of woman.
