Chereads / The Forgotten Shadow / Chapter 7 - Pandora’s Box

Chapter 7 - Pandora’s Box

Julian sat in his favorite chair in his familiar room in the city of Oril. The room was not excessively messy, and on the table in front of him was a small, tightly sealed box with three eyes in the center, their lines intertwined like part of a deep riddle. This box was Pandora's Box, or so he was told.

As he pondered the events that had unfolded within the organization, he realized that his dear friend Adir, whom he had known for two years, was a member. The world seemed to be growing more complicated than it had been at first.

His eyes wandered to the window, where daylight filtered through the curtains, and he recalled a scene from within the organization.

There was Kross, Albus, the blue-haired person, and the beautiful girl. The blue-haired person stepped forward and said, "My name is Marcel, and this is Celine."

Julian extended his hand with a smile and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

He then glanced at Adir, raised his left eyebrow, and asked, "Have you been watching me all this time?"

Adir smiled and laughed lightly before replying, "No, you fool. I was just like you in the beginning. Before the organization discovered me.

The reason I remain here in Oril is because it's all that's left for me. You know, I was born without knowing my parents and lived under the care of my great-grandfather."

Julian looked at him and realized that behind this smiling face lay deep secrets that were beyond his understanding. At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Julian stood up to open it and found Adir standing before him.

Adir walked in with steady steps, his eyes studying Julian as if he were reading everything about him.

"How are you feeling now?" Adir asked with a calm smile.

Julian hesitated for a moment before answering, "I don't know. I think I'm still processing everything. You know, everything happened at once, which made me feel overwhelmed."

Adir approached and sat in the chair across from him, then spoke softly, "I was just like you at first. Everything happened suddenly. But in the end, I got used to the organization."

His eyes gazed toward the sky through the window, where the clouds beautifully adorned the heavens.

"I see it as my home and the family that remains for me in this world."

Julian looked at him with mixed feelings and said, "I hope it will be the same for me."

Adir smiled and said, "We didn't choose you. The Sifrania you carry chose you. This power connects all of us. It's a barrier, but it's also a key."

Julian's gaze shifted to the mysterious box on the table, and he asked, "The Black Seal and the Abalith still spin in my mind. Was it right for us to seal the majority of humanity's power? Wouldn't it be better to cultivate our strength and face them all?"

Adir smiled lightly and said, "The Black Seal is the greatest thing our organization has ever created. When the great catastrophe that brought the Abalith into our world occurred, we had to do something to protect humanity. We had no choice but to sacrifice the majority's access to Sifrania because this power is what originally attracted the Abalith to us."

Julian was shocked and said, "So, you restricted humanity for that reason?"

Adir nodded slowly and said, "Yes, it was necessary. Imagine if all humans could use Sifrania. They would consume it unwittingly, leading to greater destruction than what happened. We created the Seal to be a fortress for humanity… but it was also a curse for some."

Julian looked at the box with hesitation before asking, "Why me? Why was I not affected by the Seal?"

Adir sighed and said, "We mentioned this before. Because you are one of the few who inherited the blood of the great lineages. Those who existed before the Seal and were unaffected by it. Or perhaps you were born with an innate gift that broke the Seal. Know this, the Seal has weakened over the long years."

Julian asked with curiosity, "So, are the users of Sifrania only within the organization, or are they scattered across the world?"

Adir smiled and looked toward the window before saying, "There are many of them. They're not under our control. And many evil organizations in this world seek to dominate it. As I told you before, this world is much bigger than you can imagine, Julian."

Julian was about to ask more when the door suddenly opened, and "Kross," the mysterious man who had led him into this dark world, entered.

"Enough talk, Adir. Julian needs to understand his power and how to protect this world, not hear stories justifying our actions."

Kross moved toward the box and pointed to it. "Inside this box, you will find something that connects you to us. But before you open it, you must know something important."

Julian looked at him warily and asked, "What is it?"

Kross replied calmly, "Once you open this box, there will be no turning back. The Sifrania you possess will become more apparent, and it will begin attracting things you cannot imagine. The Abalith, the creatures we fight, will know of your existence. The stronger you become, the more you will be threatened by them."

Julian felt a sense of unease but tried to keep his voice steady as he said, "I guess there's no other choice, right?"

Kross smiled coldly and said, "No, you have no other choice. This path was chosen by you."

Julian slowly extended his hand toward the box. When he touched it, he felt a strange energy surge through his body.

He slowly opened the box, finding a small black stone inside that throbbed as if it were a living heart. He held it in his hand, and immediately, a tremendous surge of energy engulfed him, as though it were igniting a fire within him.

Adir stepped back, while Kross stood still, watching what was happening. Julian's eyes glowed with a mysterious red light, and his body burned from within. But it wasn't just pain; there was a sense of mystery as if something enormous was awakening inside him.
