Chapter 1 - The Rise

The morning light streamed through the windows of the Kane household, casting a warm glow over the kitchen where Tia, a girl in her late teens, was busy preparing breakfast. Her movements were rhythmic, a testament to countless mornings spent in this very spot. The tranquil scene was soon interrupted by the sound of laughter descending from upstairs, a prelude to the day's unfolding drama.

Tia looked up just in time to see her father, Simeon, and her High School Principal, Taylor Forbes, making their way down. Their laughter was light, almost conspiratorial, but it was the look on Taylor's face that spoke volumes.

"Good morning, dad, and Miss Forbes," Tia greeted with a smile, her tone light but laced with a hint of mischief.

"How are you?" Simeon asked, his voice still carrying the echo of laughter.

"I am good, and I am sure you had a great night?" Tia's question was playful, her eyes twinkling with unasked questions.

"Um... uh..." Simeon stumbled over his words, clearly unprepared for this line of inquiry.

"Don't worry, dad, I won't say anything," Tia assured him with a wink, her promise sealing the secret of the night.

Taylor, now caught in the awkwardness of morning after, muttered, "Um, I'll be on my way now," her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"See you in school, Miss Taylor," Tia said, her tone friendly but final.

"I could give you a ride to school," Taylor offered, trying to salvage some normalcy, her chuckle nervous. "That's if you want to?"

"I am okay; besides, Brad's giving me a ride," Tia replied, her refusal gentle but firm.

"Alright... um, can you keep this between us?" Taylor asked, her voice lowering to a whisper.

"Your secret is safe with me, Miss Taylor," Tia confirmed, watching as Taylor made a quick exit.

As Taylor left, Samantha, Tia's friend and the school's gossip columnist, entered the kitchen, her curiosity piqued. "Um, I saw Miss Taylor," she announced, her eyes wide with intrigue.

"How are you, Sam?" Simeon attempted a diversion, his tone casual but his mind racing.

"I am fine, Mr. K. I can see you are doing okay," Samantha replied, her gaze probing.

"What is it, Sam?" Simeon asked, wary of where this was leading.

"It's just that I am really curious about the fact that old people still have sex," Samantha blurted out, her words hanging in the air like a cartoon bubble.

Simeon was visibly taken aback. "Sam..." he started, but words failed him.

"Sorry, I did not realize how weird it was to ask," Samantha apologized with a smile, her interest more academic than personal. "My bad."

"Yeah," was all Simeon managed before he excused himself, leaving the kitchen to the two girls.

"You had to ask?" Tia looked at Samantha, half amused, half exasperated.

"You know how curious I get. Besides, it is for my blog," Samantha defended, her passion for her blog evident.

"That was weird," Tia agreed, shaking her head as they heard a car horn outside. "Our ride's here."

They walked out to see Bradon, a boy their age, in the driver's seat, his expression one of impatience. "You are late," Tia teased as they climbed into the car.

"Had to do something," Bradon said, starting the car and driving off.

"Did she get it?" Tia asked, her voice hopeful.

"Yeah," Bradon confirmed, his fingers crossed in a gesture of hope.

"Let's hope my dad does too," Tia added, her tone laced with a mix of mischief and genuine concern.

"What the hell is going on?" Samantha chuckled, feeling out of the loop.

"We are... um... planning a date for our parents," Bradon confessed, his cheeks slightly red with the admission.

"Oh really?" Samantha looked at Tia, her eyebrow raised in surprise.

"You need to support us," Bradon pleaded.

"You know I'll always be your biggest supporter, but I feel Tia isn't forthcoming with the truth because she didn't say where your mom spent the night yesterday," Samantha said, her gaze shifting between them.

"You saw her?" Bradon turned to Tia, his voice a mix of shock and amusement.

"She saw her," Samantha confirmed.

"Give it a rest, Sam," Tia sighed, her patience wearing thin. "Your mom was with my dad."

"Oh, mine," Bradon gagged playfully, then quickly added, "but the date sounds like a good idea, and it's gonna help us."

"Open minds," Tia said, her voice firm.

"Can I ask how y'all dweebs got them to go on a date without them knowing?" Samantha inquired, her reporter's instinct kicking in.

"Well, we both cloned their profiles, and we chat as them," Bradon explained, a smile breaking through his facade of innocence.

Samantha laughed, "Oh, my mom was right; you two are influencing me negatively."

As they parked at school, the trio got out, their conversation pausing but their alliance clear.

"See you after class," Bradon said to the girls.

"Alright," Tia responded.

"Um, we have classes together," Samantha added, her voice trailing off as she noticed Naomi, a younger, nerdy girl, approaching.

"Hey, Sam," Naomi greeted, her voice soft but eager.

"Did you get anything new?" Samantha asked, her interest piqued by Naomi's potential for her blog.

"Yes, I did, and I cannot wait to show you," Naomi beamed, her enthusiasm palpable.

"Great," Samantha smiled. "I could pass my mantle to you."

"No way," Naomi replied, surprised and flattered.

"Why?" Bradon asked, intrigued by the exchange.

"No one wants to get interviewed by me cause they feel I don't got it," Naomi confessed, her voice dropping.

"From your looks? You definitely do not got it, Naomi," Tia said, her honesty blunt but well-intentioned.

"Well, free advice," Samantha sighed, "you got to be sassy, sweet, and classy. Maybe I can help you up your looks so you'll be fit."

"But I look okay," Naomi protested, her confidence wavering.

"Nobody's going to take you seriously if you dress like that," Bradon interjected, his tone pragmatic.

"I am giving you an ultimatum. You gotta up your looks, or you get passed on for the promotion," Samantha declared, her decision firm.

"But... that's the only thing I have," Naomi stuttered, her eyes wide with concern.

"We'll meet after school so we can change Naomi," Bradon suggested, his voice supportive.

"Alright, and it's been long since we've done a full makeover," Tia added, her excitement for the project evident.

As they continued their day, the complexities of teenage life, friendship, and the subtle art of manipulation for a greater good unfolded, setting the stage for more secrets, laughter, and perhaps, love.
