He knew he should have been studying for his upcoming exams, but the enchanting world of samurais, magical creatures, and epic quests was far more captivating.
As he gripped his gaming controller tighter, his character—a brave young hero clad in vibrant armor—faced off against a fearsome dragon. The pixels vibrated with energy as the dragon's fiery breath scorched the air. "Come on, come on!" Ah-Kai muttered to himself, his heart racing. He dodged the flames and unleashed his special attack, dealing a heavy blow to the creature.
But just as victory seemed within grasp, the screen flickered, plunging his room into darkness. Confused, Ah-Kai squinted at the blank screen. "What the—?" he exclaimed, shaking the controller in frustration. Moments later, a brilliant flash of light filled his room, making him shield his eyes.
When the light faded, Ah-Kai found himself lying on soft, mossy ground instead of his familiar bedroom carpet. As he blinked in disbelief, he realized he was surrounded by towering trees with vibrant pink cherry blossoms, their petals dancing gracefully in the gentle breeze. Exotic birds chirped melodiously overhead, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
"What is happening?" he whispered to himself, trying to make sense of his new surroundings. This was no ordinary park—this was a fantasy realm straight out of the anime he loved. Heart racing with excitement and terror, he quickly pushed himself to his feet.
"Hello?" he called out, his voice echoing in the tranquil forest. "Is anyone there?"
To his surprise, a small creature bounded toward him. It was a rabbit, but unlike any rabbit he had ever seen. Its fur was fluffy and white, like freshly fallen snow, and it wore a tiny backpack adorned with tiny flowers.
"Hi there! I'm Mochi! Welcome to Sakura No Kuni!" the rabbit exclaimed cheerfully, its eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Ah-Kai's mouth dropped open. "You can talk?!"
"Of course! Everyone here can talk! What's your name?" Mochi replied, hopping excitedly.
"I'm Ah-Kai," he said, still stunned. "But, um, how did I get here?"
"That's what happens when you play the game!" Mochi explained, twitching his ears. "You got isekaided! Now you can go on adventures with us!"
"Isekai…d?" Ah-Kai repeated, trying to wrap his mind around the idea. He was actually in the game? This was unreal!
As he took in his surroundings, he felt a mix of awe and fear. He had dreamed of being a hero in a magical world, but he never expected it to actually happen. How would he fit in? He was just a regular kid from San Francisco, not some legendary warrior.
Mochi bounced closer, sensing his hesitation. "Don't worry, Ah-Kai! You can be a hero too! Everyone brings something special to the team! Come on, let's find some friends!"
With a deep breath, Ah-Kai decided to follow Mochi. As they ventured deeper into the forest, he couldn't help but feel an excitement bubbling within him.
