Chapter 36: A New Ally

The morning after the confrontation between Alexander and Clara, the atmosphere at the retreat seemed calmer, yet there was an unspoken understanding that the storm was not entirely over. Mia, though relieved that Alexander had taken a firm stance against Clara, remained cautious. She knew Clara well enough to understand that this was not the end of her scheming.

Victoria, true to her word, appeared more approachable, though her warmth was still wrapped in layers of guarded dignity. Over breakfast, she engaged Mia in conversation, asking about her plans and interests. It was the first time Victoria had shown genuine interest, and Mia welcomed the opportunity to build a bridge.

"You handled yourself well last night," Victoria remarked, her tone almost approving. "Not many would have remained so composed under such scrutiny."

Mia smiled softly, grateful for the acknowledgment. "Thank you, Victoria. I've learned that staying calm is often the best way to disarm a situation."

Victoria nodded thoughtfully. "Indeed. Strength comes in many forms. Perhaps we can work together to ensure that our family remains strong, despite… certain elements."

Mia understood the veiled reference to Clara and nodded. "I would like that very much. Family is important, and I want to contribute positively."

As they continued their conversation, Adrian watched from across the room, his eyes narrowing. His plan to stir discord had failed, and now, it seemed that Mia was gaining Victoria's favor. His own jealousy and desire for power festered, feeding into Clara's ongoing plots.

Later that day, Adrian sought out Clara, who was brooding in one of the estate's lounges. "It seems our efforts have backfired," Adrian said, his voice laced with bitterness.

Clara looked up, her eyes filled with fury. "It's not over yet. Mia might have won a battle, but the war is far from over."

Adrian smirked, intrigued. "What do you have in mind?"

Clara leaned in, her voice low and conspiratorial. "We need to strike where it hurts the most—Mia's relationship with Alexander. If we can sow seeds of doubt between them, we can weaken her position."

Adrian nodded, the wheels of a new scheme turning in his mind. "I can work on Alexander. He trusts me, at least for now. We'll make him question her loyalty."

Meanwhile, Mia found an unexpected ally in Victoria. Over the next few days, they worked together, discussing ways to strengthen the family's public image and philanthropy efforts. Mia's insights impressed Victoria, who began to see her not just as Alexander's wife, but as a valuable asset to the family.

Victoria's change in attitude did not go unnoticed. Clara's fury grew with each passing day, her desperation leading her to more reckless plans. But Mia, fortified by her growing bond with Victoria and Alexander's unwavering support, stood ready to face whatever came next.
