Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Is This Just A Coincidence?

After thinking it over, Chantelle decided to let Kane stay at the Wilson residence.

It would be a chance for him to experience the fatherly love he had missed out on, and she wanted Daniel to deal with a mischievous child.

Chantelle sent a message: Don't worry, he won't find out who I am. Take care of yourself. I'll pick you up in a few days.

After replying to Kane, Chantelle went to check on Railer. Though his life was no longer at risk, he still needed time to recover.

She grew worried when she saw he was still in a coma after yesterday's surgery.

She stayed by his side, wanting him to feel safe when he woke up in an unfamiliar place.

I should have come back sooner! Chantelle thought, feeling sad as she remembered all the pain Railer had suffered.

Daniel hates me so much. He'll never be kind to my child. The guilt weighed heavily on her chest.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing.

She stepped out of the room to answer it.

"Ms. Bently, Kate has called us over a hundred times. She wants to meet with the members of the charity committee," Calvin reported.

"Wow, she's in such a hurry," Chantelle said with a scoff.

"Of course! Kate spent a whopping two hundred thousand dollars yesterday to get the trending topics removed from social media. She's desperate to get the committee members to speak on her behalf," Calvin explained.

"Our team worked hard to get the news about her become a trending topic. It would be a waste if she could undo all that with just two hundred thousand dollars. Tell our people to keep commenting on social media. I want it to stay trending. Also, tell Kate that the Chairman of the charity committee won't meet her until the rumors disappear," Chantelle instructed.

"I'll take care of it!" Calvin replied before hanging up and quickly ordering his team to keep the posts going.

After hanging up, Chantelle saw that Kane had sent a new message.

She leaned against the wall and read it: Oh no, Mommy! This is an emergency! Hurry, find a place to hide! The scumbag is using me to blame you. He's on his way to the hospital!

Shocked by the message, Chantelle quickly thought about escaping.

But as she turned around, she bumped into a grumpy man. It was Daniel.

The man stood two steps away from Chantelle. He was dressed in a sharp black suit and looked well-groomed and intimidating.

His eyes burned with anger as he stared at her.

Finally, he spoke in a threatening tone, "Chantelle Bently!"

Chantelle felt a lump in her throat when she realized Daniel had figured out her name.

He really is the most powerful man in Easthan. Nothing escapes from his grip.

She quickly regained her composure and tried to act calm.

She flicked her hair and smirked before saying, "Did you go through all this trouble just to find out my name and find me here at the hospital? You don't need to make it so complicated. If you want to be friends, you can just ask for my number. I, too, find it hard to resist making friends with someone as handsome as you."

Chantelle placed her slender fingers on Daniel's chest, deliberately brushing against his firm muscles.

Ashton was stunned by her boldness.

Is she really trying to seduce Mr. Wilson? This is so awkward. He felt nervous and looked over at Daniel, who was clearly furious.

Daniel couldn't believe how bold the woman was.

He grabbed her fingers and pulled her closer. "So you're Chantelle Bently, too? Isn't it a bit too much of a coincidence that a woman named Chantelle Bently is paying her respects to my grandfather on his death anniversary?"

Chantelle's expression hardened, and she stared back at him. She then coldly said, "You're hurting me, Mr. Wilson."

"I want a good explanation. I can make you hurt even more if you can't convince me why you visit my grandpa's grave," Daniel warned her.

Chantelle sneered inside. I've already been through the pain five years ago.

She quickly flicked her wrist, freeing herself from Daniel's grip.

Stepping back a few paces, she gave him a look of triumph, mocking him.

"Your grandfather helped me when I was in the country. Now that I'm back, it's only right I pay my respects. All I did was bring him a bouquet," Chantelle said, her tone growing sharper. "But I think I should be asking you, Mr. Wilson. Your grandfather was an honorable man. Why did he die so suddenly? It's your fault for not protecting him. Now that he's gone, no one even bothers to honor him. What kind of man are you?"

Daniel's face drained of color as Chantelle's words hit him.

His fist clenched in anger, and he thought, What a bold woman! How dare she provoke me and turn everything I say back on me? How dare she accuse me of not being worthy of being a grandson? How dare she ask why Grandpa died so soon? It's all her fault. Chantelle Bently deceived and betrayed me. She made a fool of me!

Daniel stared at her, fighting the urge to strangle her.

For some reason, he felt like she was strangely familiar.

The way she talked reminded him of Chantelle Bently.

Is this just a coincidence?

The air between them grew tense as they both stood in silence.

Chantelle's hands began to sweat as anxiety set in.

Just then, Philip broke the silence. "There you are, Daniel! Rai has finished his medical exam. Let's go!"

He carried Kane as he walked over to them.

However, when he saw Chantelle, his eyes widened in surprise.

"You're alive, Chantelle?" he said, stunned.

Chantelle hadn't expected Philip to recognize her, even though she looked so different.

She silently thanked herself for changing her appearance, giving her the chance to pretend not to know him.

Kane, surprised that Philip recognized Chantelle despite her huge changes, thought, It's amazing he recognized Mommy. But it's my fault I didn't warn her earlier, letting the scumbag find her.

The boy blinked, trying to get Chantelle's attention, silently asking if she needed help to get out of the situation.

But Chantelle gave him a reassuring look.

"Who are you?" Chantelle asked Philip, pretending to be confused.

Philip felt an odd sense of familiarity, but hearing Chantelle's words baffled him.
