Chapter 5. Diagon Street (3)
Pushing open the ancient door, Dumbledore and Julian entered Ollivander's shop. An elderly man stood on the stairs, placing long boxes on the shelves.
"It must be sticks," Julian thought, his curiosity about sticks only growing.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, the old man turned around, glanced at Julian, then looked at Dumbledore and said with a kind smile:
- Oh, Dumbledore, good afternoon, I haven't seen you here for a long time. What brings you to an old man like me today?
"Nothing special, Ollivander, just brought this kid in to buy a new wand. Oh, and his name is Julian Wooless."
"Okay, go ahead, little one, which hand do you like to work with?" Ollivander looked at Dumbledore for a moment, then turned to Julian and finally spoke with obvious lack of ideas.
— I use my right hand more often; it's more convenient for me to work with my right hand.
"Extend your right arm to shoulder level," Ollivander said, taking out a tape measure and recording all the data.
A little later, having finished measuring, Ollivander went to the shelves and began to select long boxes one by one.
"Here, try this one. It's made of mahogany and dragon nerve, nine inches long. Quite sturdy," he then passed the wand into Julian's hand.
"What are you waiting for, wave and see," Ollivander reminded, looking at Julian, who looked a little puzzled.
Julian waved his wand, and at the same moment there was a crack: his vase shattered, and the shards flew across the floor.
"No, no, this one definitely won't do," Ollivander said and snatched the wand from Julian's hands.
- Try this one, Sakuragi, Oris-snake nerve, nine and a half inches, good for silently casting spells.
Julian took it, but as soon as he swung it, Ollivander immediately took the wand back.
"No, this one is bad too," he said and returned to the shelves.
Julian felt stupid as Ollivander handed him wands one by one, only to take them back again, constantly repeating that this one didn't fit, and that one didn't fit.
Time flew by, two hours passed, Julian tried one stick after another, and they all piled up on the counter, forming a mound.
Finally, Julian raised his right hand to try the new wand Ollivander had given him, telling him it was made from net wood and unicorn hair, ten inches long.
As soon as he touched it, Julian felt a lightness, not pricking, but very comfortable, as if he were holding a jade wand in his hand.
And the wand in his hands emitted a silver light, which gradually formed a silver mist.
He seemed to know what to do: Julian waved his wand above his head.
Happiness and joy suddenly surfaced in his heart, and happy memories from the past and present seemed to fill his mind at the same time: the first time he held Sasuke in his arms, the first time he made friends, the first time he learned the ninja arts, the smile of the little girl Annie receiving candy, and more.
Looking at these memories, Julian cried out, "May the spirit of the gods be with us!" as if he knew what to say.
As Julian's powerful magic quickly erupted, a brilliant silver light burst out from the wand, and the silver light quickly combined until a beautiful unicorn appeared in front of the three of them.
The silver unicorn touched Julian's cheek, then burst through the shop doors and soared up into the sky.
A silver unicorn appeared in the evening sky, darting back and forth like a real unicorn.
And those watching this, whether wizards or Muggles, suddenly felt calm and relaxed, as if no worries could disturb them.
Following Dumbledore as he ran outside, the three of them looked at the unicorn in the sky, not knowing what to say.
Realizing what he had done, Julian quickly waved his wand, and the unicorn in the sky instantly disappeared from sight.
However, it was too late. Although no one came forward with questions due to Dumbledore's position, people still turned their gazes to the three, especially Julian.
People looked at Julian with curiosity and surprise in their eyes. They could not understand how a child who was barely ten years old could use such complex magic.
Dumbledore took Julian's hand and returned him to Ollivander, mending the broken door with a wave of his hand.
Ollivander looked calmly at Julian.
"I'm sorry, Professor, I was wrong," Julian said, hanging his head and apologizing to Dumbledore like a small child.
"No, Julian, you didn't do anything wrong. You were just too happy, and I don't think anyone can blame a young wizard for trying out a wand for the first time.
Dumbledore spoke soft words of comfort.
At this moment, a noise was heard: "Bang-bang", several figures appeared at Ollivander's door, and then burst into the shop.
At the head of the group was a serious-looking middle-aged man with long, disheveled hair, looking like an angry lion.
Dumbledore pulled Julian behind him, walked up to the man, and greeted him cheerfully.
- Good afternoon, Rufus, glad to see you here.
- Not so happy, Dumbledore. Tell me who did this, you saw the culprit, right?
Rufus looked at Dumbledore with anger.
"Oh, Rufus, I don't think 'criminal' is the right word," Dumbledore raised an eyebrow.
- Incorrect? No, that's the word. Do you know how many people saw the Patronus? Muggles within a radius of one kilometer clearly saw it. At least thousands of Muggles witnessed it. You understand, Dumbledore, this is the biggest incident in the last ten years. I have reason to suspect that this is an organized operation to expose wizards.
- Oh, yes, Rufus, it's not as bad as you say. I assure you, this is not an exposure of wizards, just a misunderstanding.
"Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding? It's illegal," Rufus shouted.
"Actually, the thing is this: this little wizard was trying to use his wand for the first time and accidentally caused a magical accident. You know that little wizards are prone to magical malfunctions until they're eleven. Although Julian is only a few days away from his eleventh birthday, so the Patronus is a minor accident."
"Yes, I can confirm that," Ollivander responded, "this wand is made from unicorn hair as a core."
After Ollivander's words, Dumbledore turned Julian towards him.
"Merlin's beard, you're not kidding, Dumbledore?" Rufus looked at Julian, who was only eleven years old, in bewilderment.
- How could a young wizard who had not yet entered Hogwarts use such complex magic? Moreover, the magical power of a young wizard is simply insufficient to perform such complex magic. It requires a huge amount of magical power, it is simply impossible.
- But it is. Rufus, although it does not look like magic, it is true. In fact, before coming to Diagon Street, Julian had just taken an enhancement potion that was prepared by Marcus and presented to him this morning.
Rufus froze when he heard about the potion.
While Rufus stood there, lost in thought over Dumbledore's words, someone came in and said to him:
- Mr. Scrimgeour, find out everything. People around here say that the spell was cast from here. Shortly after the Patronus appeared, Professor Dumbledore's trio also ran out of the shop. Apparently, this child had nothing to do with it.
Rufus Scrimgeour quickly came to his senses after hearing his subordinate's report, then said:
- Return to the Leaky Cauldron and ask Tom if Master Marcus came into the bar this morning and gave that kid a bottle of potion.
Rufus did not name the potion, believing that the fewer people who knew about it, the better.
Then Rufus looked at Julian and asked:
"Is it true what Dumbledore said, boy? Did you actually take a dose of the enhancement potion, and what was its taste like?"
Rufus asked in as gentle a tone as possible.
- Yes sir, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I, hm?
Julian looked puzzled, then looked at Rufus with disbelief and asked uncertainly, "Excuse me, sir, what did you just say?"
"Forget it, it's nothing," Rufus realized that he had lost control, turned to his subordinates and said: "Leave the group, it's just an accident."
With these words, Rufus turned, bowed slightly to Dumbledore and Ollivander, and then left.
"Excuse me sir, wait, shouldn't I be punished?" Julian quickly ran out of the store and asked.
- No, of course not. People would kill me if they knew I caught an eleven-year-old.
With a mischievous wink, Rufus left with his men, not even waiting for interested parties to come out to ask questions.
This also resulted in the subordinate being blocked by reporters who heard the news, and the incident was widely reported in the newspapers, causing a stir in the wizarding world. Of course, that's another story.
Julian stood in the wind, confused, with an embarrassed expression on his face. How does it feel to have an angry lion wink at you playfully?
