Chapter 1 - 1. Colius

Colius had just regained consciousness when he realized he had no idea where he was. He found himself lying face down, his face turned on one cheek that rested on the dry ground. He placed his palms on the almost sandy expanse, and bearing all his weight on his arms he barely raised the upper part of his torso, before sitting up. Only then did he realize he was in the middle of a dust storm. He narrowed his eyes to prevent the dust raised by the wind from blurring his vision too much. He had goosebumps, but it wasn't cold: the wind was so violent that it penetrated under his tunic and in this way all his body heat was destined to disperse. In fact that humble tunic was not suitable for such windy climates. Colius's tunic was the classic robe that a simple village wizard would wear, made of a thin brownish fabric, frayed at the edges that were destined to be dragged on any type of terrain, and a hood that should have protected him from some adverse weather conditions, but given the poor workmanship of the dress, it was unable to perfectly perform the task for which it was designed. The sleeves were wide, which is why Colius, certainly not a simpleton, never missed his petticoat - also of poor workmanship - but which allowed him to use that tunic as a strange uncomfortable outerwear to wear. In fact, nothing so unusual for a wizard, especially one not accustomed to adventure, but rather dedicated to a simple and habitual routine, just like Colius. The young man feels the pockets of his tunic and trousers, as if to make sure he has not lost anything, and indeed his gold and the potions that he usually kept on him were not missing. He then ran a hand over his neck and breathed a sigh of relief: his amulet was in its place too. He finally decides to stand up. He looks around as much as he can because of the storm that surrounds him, staggers a bit on the spot, scratches his temple: he still feels very confused and dizzy. how... how did I end up here...?

Finally Colius began to ask himself some questions. And only then did he realize an important lack: his backpack.

damn, some scoundrel must have robbed me.

He was starting to remember. The young wizard was on a trip. Nothing demanding for goodness sake, Colius was used to making a few small visits to nearby villages for various reasons, especially to meet other wizards or merchants, accompanied only by his backpack on his shoulders. But he doesn't remember at all where he was going and why. Surely the contents of his backpack could have helped him remember, if only he had one.

having nothing else to do, Colius begins to walk ahead of himself; certainly a choice that some might call reckless for a subject who was not at all adventurous, given the fact that he was not capable of seeing beyond his nose. But at that moment he had only one certainty

I want to leave this place as soon as possible.

And so he set off.
