In a large, traditional library where a vast collection of books resided housed in shelves upon multiple floors, the smell of leather permeated throughout the air giving a comfortable, somewhat nostalgic feeling.
Within said library sat a boy, 17 years of age, with a large yet lean muscular frame, coming at an impressive 6 feet 3 inches. He had a head of mid-length light brown hair, clear slightly tanned skin and a pair of green eyes that resembled emeralds, giving him an impression of intelligence. His figure was intimidating, yet the same cannot be said for his actions, as he sat hunched over at a desk diligently reading a book.
As for what he was reading:
'THE HISTORY OF SUPERHUMAN ABILITIES AND THEIR APPLICATIONS'
'Superhuman abilities have a deep and profound history, cases dating back over 8000 years, playing a crucial role in the development and progress of the human race. Having played a major role in almost all notable conflicts in recorded history, it can be said that superhumans are valuable figures in any setting.
Superhumans have also greatly benefited fields of research and development in various sectors; energy production, waste disposal, transportation, etc. The most prominent role they have played is in space travel and the development of creating artificial atmospheres in space. The colonisation of the moon, and later Mars was possible due to the contribution of the technology developed from the research of superhuman abilities. Plans for the colonisation of Venus have been discussed and are expected to be implemented within the near future.
In the modern era, superheroes have came into being, serving as keepers of peace and protecting the public from superhuman threats and catastrophes. Superheroes have become the subject of great admiration and have become prominent public figures, possessing great influence in the matters regarding superhumans...'
The chapter in the book he was reading contained mostly contained topics were considered common knowledge, yet went slightly more in-depth. The boy closed the book, the cover now being visible displaying the name of the author under the title 'Superpowers, What Are They?', the author was one that all were familiar with. A titan in the world of literature: 'THE ICE KING', a figure that has left their mark on the world, having produced works in all genres imaginable. After closing the book, the boy stood up and walked over towards a table where a group of other students sat.
"Hey Jon, have you finally finished reading?", spoke one of the boys sat at the table, he had a cheeky grin on his face as he spoke, most likely from the prior conversation the group were having.
"Yeah, I've about finished up for today, how's it been with you guys? Get much done?" Jon replied with a yawn.
"Of course not. Now come, sit down, we were just talking about you." He responded in a cheery voice, pulling out a chair for Jon to sit on. "I honestly don't understand how you can be so motivated to be studying, when we only recently finished our end-of-year exams." He continued, followed by a sigh.
As Jon took a seat he looked at those sat at the table , 5 individuals including 3 boys and 2 girls, all noticeably very good looking, a common trait among superhumans. The boy who was speaking was on the shorter side, roughly 5'8, and he had an athletic, lean frame. Matthew Richards was the boy's name, he had pale skin, a sharp jawline, and his mid-length curly blonde hair almost reached down to his sky-blue eyes. He gave the impression of a cheery and somewhat mischievous young man, he almost always seen with a toothy grin on his face.
"Maybe you're just lazy Matt" The boy sat on the other side of Matthew, David Ferguson, added teasingly. "You really should study more, didn't you say you struggled with all the mock papers a few months back?" David was of average height, possessing a stocky and muscular physique, he had clear brown skin and sharp facial features. His dark brown hair was short, only a few inches in length, this meant that his hazel eyes were easily visible for one to see.
"Shut up, I'll have you know that I do, in fact, study. Though not to the extent that you addicts go to, I prefer to work smart instead of hard. Those questions were just extra difficult I tell you!" Matthew defended himself in an exaggerated, somewhat pedantic tone.
"The only thing smart about you, is that mouth of yours" Seated next to David was a tall girl, she had a strong but elegant figure, she had an athletic figure and her toned muscles shown the effort of her training. Her name was Rosa Daniels, she had sharp features, pale skin with dark brown eyes, and long black hair.
"Hey now, let's not bully Matt too hard. We know he's a bit slow, there's no need to stomp on those less capable" With a giggle the other girl spoke in a mocking tone, she was short, 5'2 to precise, and slender. Her hair went down to her shoulders and it's shade of black was complementary to her obsidian eyes. Her name was Maya Song.
"Silence midget! I will not tolerate such disrespect from you of all people, you two thirds of a person." Matt responded with a sneer, maintaining his exaggerated manner of speaking with his comeback.
"What do they say about the pot and kettle? You might need to take a look in the mirror my good friend, you're not exactly in a position to speak on height." The third boy spoke, though it would be hard to call him a boy considering his gargantuan size. The titan of a boy was a whopping 6 feet and 7 inches, he had wide shoulders and a herculean physique that rivalled the gods. His dark skin was glossy and not a blemish could be seen, his eyes were a unique silver and as was his hair which came down in dreadlocks. This young man's name was George Peroni.
"Arrgghhh, will you all just stop ganging up on me? Jon help me out here, I can't win a 4v1 I need your assistance comrade." Matthew pleaded.
"Not trying to kick you whilst you're down, but you brought this upon yourself. If you worked harder and got a bit more serious, you wouldn't be in such an easy target." Jon finally spoke up in a half serious tone, failing to save his 'comrade' who was in dire need of help.
"Boo! For someone who's good at everything you sure are useless, is this how the model student Jon Bacardi treats his comrades? Guess I really can't trust anyone to have my back." Matthew, having been utterly defeated in this pointless verbal squabble finally resigned, keeping his overly-dramatic speeches to the very end.
Having ended the small talk, it was time to get to the reason why they all gathered here in this near-empty library, during their holiday break. Their faces turned serious and they all grew quiet, the silence was painfully tense.
"Shall we get started then?" Jon took the initiative, cutting the tension like a knife.
