Alice, known as Lili to her friends, was a 16-year-old French girl who considered herself mostly average—except for one tiny thing.
Ever since she was little, Alice had experienced vivid, waking daydreams filled with creepy, grotesque shapes that sent chills down her spine! She often told herself there had to be a scientific explanation for it, though she couldn't quite figure out what it was.
Once, in middle school, Alice made the mistake of mentioning these daydreams to her classmates. They laughed, thinking she was crazy. After that, she never brought it up again. The only person she could talk to was her childhood friend, Martin. Those two had been close since kindergarten.
In and case, Alice had a happy childhood with loving and caring parents.
Things became a bit more complicated when Alice started high school. She didn't know anyone, and all the cliques had already formed. As a result, she spent a lot of time alone. That was her reality—until some girls in her class invited her to hang out with them. However, Alice quickly realized they only wanted her around for what she could provide.
"Alice, can you send me the math homework?"
"Alice, do you have the notes from the physics lab?"
"Alice, can I copy your biology assignment? I'll change it, I promise!"
But when it came to hanging out for anything other than schoolwork, they were nowhere to be found. Morever, Martin was in a different class, so Alice didn't see him much either. It was frustrating, but she figured it was better than nothing.
The first two weeks of school passed like that. Then, out of nowhere, a new girl arrived. Her name was Jade, and there was something... off about her. No one dared to meet her gaze—except Alice, who felt like Jade was challenging her. Alice didn't back down, and perhaps that was why Jade ended up sitting next to her. Over time, a rivalry formed between the two girls.
Those who used to pester Alice for homework eventually left her alone, likely because she started spending more time with Jade. Despite their constant competition, Alice and Jade never hesitated to help each other out.
During lunch, Alice, Jade, and Martin would hang out in the cafeteria.
After school, Alice would take the bus home. Between 4 and 5:30 PM, it was always packed like a can of sardines. Getting off was a battle every single time!
At home, she was greeted by Doudou, her cat. With his black fur and striking yellow eyes, Doudou was adorable. He was Alice's sunshine, her everything. Even the grumpiest person couldn't resist his charm.
In the evenings, Alice would do her homework, then spend some time online or reading before heading to bed. Life was good. But then came that night.
It was the night of October 31st. To celebrate, Alice and Martin decided to watch a horror movie at the theater. Jade was too busy to join them.
