The woman stepped into the house, while her two body guards remained outside. Her face was almost impassive, with the slightest hint of a smirk as she stared intently at Zane. To say she was beautiful would be an understatement, as she was drop dead gorgeous. Dressed in a tight suit pants, heels and sunglasses, she looked like a runway model. But was that the case? Hell no!
The faintest shadow of a smile played on her lips, as she slowly took off her sun glasses, "Why not?" She shrugged off Zane question, eying him with deliberate interest, " Can't a mother visit her son?"
"Of course," He laughed awkwardly, " But I mean you can just call me to come over."
She flashed him an exaggerated smile that made him gulped nervously."I miss you so much, son. I really miss you," Leaning over, she traced a finger lightly along his jaw, and whispered in his ear, " Or is that a crime?"
Zane shook his head, and pulled out a chair for her, " Please have a seat, mother," His voice was gentle, so warm and the woman nodded once before sitting down. Right at that moment, Layla returned to room. She didn't bring herself Infront of them, but stood behind the wall peeking, watching them with curiosity, and was somewhat shocked at the closeness between them. Although she couldn't understand their relationship, she was so sure it wasn't a normal one.
Zane was standing in front of the sitting woman, and she was rubbing his leg with her shoe.
' What sort of mother and son relationship is this?' Layla wondered in silence, and didn't feel good about it. Tilting her head sideways, she tried to eavesdrop, but she could only hear a few
words.
" How was the mission?" The woman was asking. She rose to her feet, suddenly and began to walk in circles around Zane, " Everything went smoothly as usual, right?"
Zane nodded his head in response
" And was the house taken care of?"
He nodded again
"Good," She praised as she leaned in close to him, "You didn't see the house burning, did you?"
"No," He replied softly, and the woman clapped her hands in delight, grinning from ear to ear as she looked around the room, and that was when she saw Layla.
Her eyes went wide with an expression in-between surprise and confusion, and she stared at the girl blankly for a moment before nodding her head slowly in realization, "This is the girl you told me about, right?"
"Yes," Zane grunted, and glanced at Layla who just stood there, dumbstruck.
" Then shouldn't you introduce her to me?" The woman looked at her up and down, slowly assessing her. Zane Inwardly sighed as he waved his hand once, gesturing Layla over. With slow but steady steps, she walked up to them swallowing hard and smiling nervously. And oh was she scared. The woman was staring at her with piercing eyes, as if looking deep inside her soul.
"Sometimes I don't know what you are thinking, Zane," Slowly, the woman shifted her attention back to him, " Don't get me wrong! I like that you are unpredictable, but I don't just understand why you chose this little girl over the girl that I chose for you. Is there anything special about her?"
"No, mother." Zane answered tiredly, and the woman scoffed at his response not believing him
"Tell me, what are you hiding?" She glared at him accusingly, her voice now strict, " Why did you refuse to marry the woman I have chosen for you?"
" That is because I don't want to be tied down with any woman," Zane retorted sharply.
" But she is also a woman," The woman argued back, pointing at Layla who bent her head slightly to hide her fear.
"A woman, you say?" Zane almost rolled his eyes, " She is just a teenager, just a little girl." At his words, the woman fell silent for a while, and then a mischievous spark glinted in her eyes.
"What is wrong in being with a woman?" She teased, flirting with him, " You don't like me?"
" Women are curious and demanding," Zane gave her a blunt response and she burst into laughter, her whole body shaking.
"You never fail to surprise me, Zane, that is why I like you." When he didn't react, she moved closer to him, stood on her toes and tickled his ear with a sexy whisper, " And I am glad that there is no other girl getting my Zane." He sucked in a shuddering breath, not saying anything and just stared at her blankly as she walked over to Layla.
" Do you think you can tackle her?" She asked him. He nodded wordlessly, " Will she be obedient enough to listen to you, to treat you as a big brother?"
.
" Yes, mother. I will teach her well," He assured her, and she nodded, fully convinced.
"Then I will leave her to you." She said making him sigh with relief, " She has to carry your image in the society." Watching the scared little girl, she observed her with her hawk eyes. " She already has an innocent look, and that is a great deal."
"I know," Zane agreed with her. And as for Layla, she just stared at them, confused, not understanding a single thing that they were talking about.
" Where did you find her?" The woman continued asking questions.
"In the street."
"Is she related to the bar business?"
"No." Zane lied, and he didn't, couldn't understand why he did that.
The woman thought for a moment and then nodded, but a distant look had over taken her eyes.
"Mother, " Zane called, interrupting her thoughts and she turned her eyes to him, " The document ....." He hinted, and she understood him immediately.
"All the documents will be ready within a few days if everything comes out alright. But before that, we need to run a medical check up on her. You know what to do, right?"
" Yes, Mother."
She smiled and looked at the girl again, " I must commend you on your choice, Zane. You found a pretty little sister." Grinning cheekily, she asked him, " What is her name?"
"Layla. Layla Kings."
"Oh! A real princess, uhu! " She teased, " So, what will be her new name? McCall Layla? or ....."
"Mother...,." Zane complained. She stopped talking and arched her eyebrow at him.
"Um...I mean that she can still continue with her real name. No body knows her here, and no one will come find her. I don't want a fake sister, so you don't need to give her my last name. She can be my cousin instead," He explained with his eyes on the floor, and the woman nodded, liking his suggestion.
"I understand, son," Putting her hand under his chin, she lifted his face to hers, "Always look at me when talking," She bit her lips as she smiled, " And your request is approved."
" Thank you." He whispered.
They stared into each other eyes, silently communicating." I will take my leave then," She said after a few seconds. And without waiting for his response, she began to walk towards the door. Zane followed closely behind her and wasn't surprise at all when she stopped suddenly and muttered softly, " Do your best to teach her. If she becomes a bigger asset, then I will take her."
Hearing her words, Zane countenance became grave, and he took a step back. But the woman seemed not to notice, she looked at Layla with an unreadable expression and kissed Zane on both cheeks before leaving the house.
