Chapter 1 - STRANGE QUESTIONS

"What do you fear the most?"

I blinked at the person asking the question in shock.

Everyone had questions like; What's your greatest wish? Would you date a vampire? Which creature of the night would you like to become?

But my own had to be different.

"What sort of question is that, Rene?" I frowned at her.

"What? It's part of the game." She said and shrugged like it was nothing.

We were playing spin the bottle and we were a group of seven. I, my boyfriend, his three male friends and my two girlfriends.

"Can I skip the question?" I suggested.

"Of course not, that's the rule, remember?" She reminded me and I groaned.

"Come on, Frances, just answer the question." My boyfriend coaxed me.

Actually, I didn't want to answer because first and foremost it was a strange question. It was very personal and serious but at the same time…scary.

"I fear two things."

"What are they?" One of my boyfriend's friends inquired in curiosity.

"One, I fear the dark."

"What's the second one?" My friend, Rene, who had asked the question, enquired.

"I fear losing my boyfriend."

At my answer, everywhere grew silent as they all looked at me.

My boyfriend, Luke, gave me a quizzical look to elaborate more but I couldn't.

"Are you scared he'll leave you for someone else? Don't worry, Luke isn't that kind of person." One of his friends said and I smiled nervously.

Unknown to them, there was an underlying meaning to what I just said. I wasn't scared of losing him to another girl or breaking up with him and stuff like that. I was scared of losing him to death.

Yes, death.

But I couldn't say it out loud or they will think I'm insane or weird.

"Don't worry, babe, you won't lose me," he assured me and I smiled nervously.

Once upon a time, my first boyfriend who I loved with all my heart died an abnormal death.

He died trying to save me.

And that left a deep impact to this very day but my therapist told me I had to move on. Even my parents told me the same thing.

I had been traumatized for years and couldn't heal till I met my recent boyfriend, Luke Wilfred.

While deep in thought, Rene spun the bottle and funny enough, it pointed at me again and everyone laughed but I didn't find it funny.

Taking a folded piece of paper from the wooden box, she read out another question for me.

"Have you ever lost someone you truly love? If yes, tell us who."

My eyes widened as my jaw dropped.

Why would a question like that be placed in the box? It was too deep.

"Why is it that I have difficult questions?" I complained.

"Come on, Frances, don't spoil the fun." Faith, my friend whined.

"Fine. I lost someone I truly loved and he was my first boyfriend."

They all blinked at me and Luke's friend, Job, asked.

"Do you mean you lost him to another girl or…"

"Are you daff? The question is clearly talking about death." Luke's other friend, Matthew, said.

"Wait…was that why you said you feared losing your boyfriend?" Job asked in shock but I remained silent.

Luke, on the other hand, gave me a long stare.

"Let's not delve into it ok…we need to keep this fun." Rene recalled as she brushed the topic and spun the bottle again.

Strangely, it pointed at me again.

"Seems you're lucky," Toby, Luke's friend, said and chuckled.

I didn't find it lucky at all, especially with all the weird questions about my past.

Taking out a folded piece of paper, Rene happily opened it and she went still as shock overwhelmed her.

"What the heck is going on? I didn't put this question here…" she quickly threw the paper away and stood up in fright.

Curious, Toby picked the paper and read it out loud and gasped after that. It said; "I gave up my life for you, Frances. How could you just move on like that?"

My eyes widened in pure horror as I gasped. This was a prank right?

"What's the meaning of this, Rene!" I screamed at her in fright.

"I don't know," she said in exasperation.

Actually, she wasn't to blame as she didn't know about my past boyfriend or anything related to it. So how did such a question get in there?

And how is it that Rene picked them accurately?

~What do you fear the most?

~Have you ever lost someone you truly love? If yes, tell us who.

~I gave up my life for you, Frances. How could you just move on like that?

My heart was racing fast as I got up on my feet while staring at the piece of paper in Toby's hand.

"We should stop." I said in a shaky voice.

"We should," Faith quickly agreed.

"What's going on, Frances?" Luke got up and came to comfort me.

"Someone must've put those questions in there. This is a prank right?" I wanted it to be a prank so badly.

"Who put that in there?" Luke asked and everyone shook their heads until someone who we hadn't noticed seated within the circle finally spoke.

"I did."

Everyone's eyes shifted in the direction of the voice and when the uninvited person pulled his hood from his head to reveal who he was, I shrieked in horror.

How was this possible? We were seven in number and now eight.

"Logan?" I breathlessly called his name in disbelief as I slowly got up in fright.

"Wh-what's going on?" Job stuttered in fear.

"Who are you?" Toby boldly asked because no one had noticed him enter. So how come?

He was seated in between Rene and Faith and they both stayed rooted in fear as shock covered their faces.

No one knew him except me but I couldn't even open my mouth to speak. He was pale in color and his eyes were hollow just like his cheek bones while his lips were bluish in color. And above all, he was more mature than before.

Without answering any of them, his eyes shifted to look at me and as the candle reflected in his eyes, I gasped in disbelief. They were red in color.

"Aren't you happy to see me?"

He inquired and grinned at me, showcasing his fangs.
