Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Book of the Dark Gods

The Darkhold is a trap: anyone who uses it not only gains great power but also becomes a conduit for Chthon's will.

Anyone who wears the Serpent Crown will gain power equal to that of the gods. However, this power comes at a terrible price: they become puppets completely controlled by Set's will.

Meanwhile, the cunning Chthon left the Darkhold Scrolls, a collection of black magic containing Chthon's own evil essence. Anyone who reads these scrolls will not only learn black magic but will also become a devoted follower of Chthon, serving to pave the way for the return of Chthon, the God of Black Knowledge, to earth.

After the massive cleansing carried out by Atum, the God Killer, the earth seemed free from the threat of the Elder Gods. However, the demonic power unleashed during the war affected Atum himself. Infected by the dark nature of the Elder Gods, Atum willingly flew into the sun to destroy himself, sacrificing himself for the safety of the earth.

Even so, the earth was not left unprotected. Gaea, Mother Earth, along with the Vishanti (created by Oshtur), ensured that the dead ancient demon gods would never have a chance to return.

Years after the destruction of the Elder Gods, Atlantis, an ambitious advanced civilization, discovered the Darkhold Scrolls. By harnessing the dark magic within, they created Varnae, the first vampire in the Marvel Universe. This marked the beginning of the existence of vampires and other dark powers on earth.

Thousands of years later, during the time of King Arthur, Camelot, the legendary holy city, was founded by Arthur Pendragon with the help of Merlin, the third most powerful sorcerer on Earth. However, conflict was inevitable. Arthur's half-sister and also his younger sibling, Morgan le Fey, began to gather the scattered Darkhold scrolls from around the world. After successfully collecting them, Morgan le Fay compiled them into the Book of Darkness, more commonly known as the Darkhold.

With the original Darkhold in hand, Morgan le Fey gained extraordinary power sufficient to rival Merlin.

Merlin, known as the Guardian of the Omnipotent Universe, is a figure whose status surpasses that of the five great gods in the Marvel Universe. Even in his mortal days, Merlin's power was on par with the Ancient One, the Sorcerer Supreme who later took Merlin's place. In fact, Merlin was the mentor of the Ancient One, which explains why Merlin's magical legacy remains so strong into the modern era.

The power of the Darkhold is terrifying. With this book, Morgan le Fey could not only compete with Merlin but also create a great threat that would last for centuries. The Darkhold is a symbol of power and destruction, as well as proof of the evil genius Chthon, the God of Dark Knowledge.

The Book of Darkhold is a reflection of the essence of all life, a window into the hidden truths of the universe. This book presents different knowledge to each of its readers, tailoring its content to their deepest desires.

For sorcerers, its pages display unimaginable dark magic spells. For scientists, the book is the answer to cosmic mysteries, scientific truths that seem impossible to reach.

When Lucien, consumed by vengeance against a sorcerer, opened the book, the Darkhold revealed the secrets of creating hybrids—knowledge that perfectly matched his obsession. The book ensnared Lucien with promises of power and the ability to overcome his enemies.

However, without Lance's intervention, Lucien would meet his demise at the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D. After Lucien's death, the Darkhold was discovered by Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze, who then hid the Darkhold in his ancestral home.

However, the book was eventually stolen by a pair of scientists. Through deception, the Darkhold taught them to steal knowledge from other dimensions, persuading them that they would become gods of a new era. This manipulation triggered a series of events that ultimately created a new generation of Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes.

As Lance gazed at the Darkhold, he could feel the dark aura emanating from the book. Lifeless, gray, and cold, the book appeared to be an ordinary object to the untrained eye. However, its magical power soon began to manipulate Lance. Unconsciously, Lance's arm started to move toward the book, as if controlled by an unseen force. Struggling, Lance fought against the temptation, realizing that the Darkhold was far more alluring to sorcerers than to ordinary people.

As a work of Chthon written and compiled by the greatest sorcerers, the Book of Darkhold is often compared to the Book of the Vishanti, the most powerful artifact in Kamar-Taj and the signature weapon of Doctor Strange. If the Vishanti symbolizes protection and white magic, then the Darkhold is its antithesis, a symbol of chaos and dark magic.

However, the extraordinary power of the Darkhold is not without consequences. This book is a great trap that consumes the souls of the weak, tempting even the strongest with promises of unlimited knowledge.

Initially, Lance did not care much about the existence of the Book of Darkhold. After all, copies of the book could be printed. Some magical book collections in Kamar-Taj do indeed record parts of the Darkhold spells, which were copied by Lucien. However, what Lucien found was merely a copy of an older version, while the original copy of the book had long been lost to history. Kamar-Taj had been searching for it for years without success.

However, the existing copy, although not as dangerous as the original, still possesses great power. The wonders recorded within it can corrupt the minds of those who delve too deeply into it, although the effects are not as severe as the original if only studied superficially.

But as Lance stared at the book, an invisible voice suddenly echoed in his mind.

"Can you hear me?"

"Witch, can you hear me?"

"There is limitless knowledge here that allows you to achieve eternal life."

"Come on!"

"Take it!"

The voices resonated, as if the characters in the book were trying to escape from the pages, yet not a single word managed to fly away. The figures, although not clearly visible, began to seep into Lance's mind, like shadows etched into his thoughts.
