Sindhu, classy and elegant in her silk saree and gold jewelry became the centre of attraction. Everyone in the house had to admit that someone like Sindhu could pull off any outfit and the glasses sitting on her nose didn't hinder her beauty. It only added an unique charm to her, making her appear wise and sophisticated.
Sujatha couldn't stop praising herself for her wonderful selection. She knew what suits her daughter, only the best.
When it was almost 9AM, Sindhu headed to the venue along with her parents. The others joined behind them in separate vehicles.
The venue was a temple close to Sindhu's family house.
The temple porch alloted for her engagement ceremony was a sight to be thoroughly enjoyed. It was decorated with colourful flowers and garlands. The floor was full of flower petals arranged in different patterns and there's rangoli everywhere (decoration with colours).
Looking around the temple, Sindhu searched for the other party. She wasn't just eager to meet the guy she was getting engaged to but also to look at his family members.
She strongly believed the words 'You don't just get married to a man, you get married into a family'
At the moment, she's more enthusiastic to learn about the guy's family than anything else.
She roamed around the temple as she was well accustomed to the place. After looking around for a couple of minutes, Sindhu noticed five people at the temple's entrance.
At the very front was an elderly couple, well dressed and dignified. Just one glance, Sindhu could already guess their background.
From their attire to mannerisms, everything screamed the word, Money.
Behind the elderly couple was a young man in a maroon suit who looked like he just woke up from his sleep and there's also a young woman dressed to heavens, as if desperately trying to dominate every woman around her.
And at last came into her sight, the man she had been waiting for.
Tall and Handsome in his Royal Blue suit.
Akin to a fashion magazine model.
Even better looking than in the picture she saw few days ago.
Just for a second, Only for a second. Sindhu stared at the man's charming face before averting her eyes. She's afraid she'd end up falling for his looks and be blinded.
She knew there's more to a man than just good looks and she had enough time to find more about him. For now, it's best for her to maintain patience and act cool.
And not wanting to get caught by anyone for being all sneaky, Sindhu behaved as if she didn't notice the group and walked away to join her parents and other relatives at the porch.
As soon as the man and his family walked towards the ceremony area, Sindhu's parents greeted them with warm smiles. However, Sindhu felt like fainting with how tensed she was feeling inside.
It was a big day for her and she couldn't help but be nervous no matter how much she tried to calm her nerves especially when her about to be mother in law seemed very hostile towards her. The woman's eyes kept throwing lasers at her.
Moreover, the man she expected to be mediocre was dazzling like a Greek god, totally overpowering her.
She was upset with him taking the upper hand over her in every aspect.
Be it height or looks.
Contrary to Sindhu's nervous breakdown, the man acted cool as if the one who's getting engaged at the moment wasn't him.
The ceremony soon began with the priest chanting mantras, and him guiding Sindhu and her parents in praying to the God. After the prayer, Sindhu was sent to rest while the man and his parents offered their prayers.
As time went by, Sindhu finally relaxed when she noticed the man was paying least attention to her.
Later, Sindhu and the man were made to sit together with the priest chanting and asking both their parents to hand the clothes and jewelry they brought with them to the couple.
Sindhu was presented with a pink and orange silk saree along with a diamond necklace and matching earrings while her parents gifted the man with a gold neck chain and bracelet along with a silk traditional outfit.
This act confirmed the acceptance of their children's engagement by both the families.
After ten minutes, Sindhu and the man were back all changed into the clothes and jewelry given to them.
The next and the final act was exchange of rings by the couple.
The man picked the ring and slipped it easily onto Sindhu's thin and dainty finger. The ring's almost double the size of her finger.
The man found it funny and chuckled faintly when he saw her struggling to keep the ring stay on her finger without losing it right away.
Irritated by his chuckle, Sindhu gave a sweet smile to the man before pushing the ring she took from her mother onto his finger with full force without any restraint almost causing his ring finger to break.
In outsiders' eyes, it looked like the couple was having a blissful moment to themselves. However, Sindhu clearly saw the man take a deep breath while clutching his jaws tight. She knew his finger had to be in immense pain. Yet, he managed to maintain his composure.
Sindhu understood the man was a hard nut to crack and she had to try harder if she wants to know his true self.
The next second, the man smiled at her with his eyes focused solely on her, as if he didn't mind her previous act.
Sindhu was stunned upon seeing him smile. Her heart skipped a beat and there came the sound of bells ringing around her.
Afraid she would lose her stance, Sindhu immediately looked away from him.
Thinking the ceremony came to an end now that the exchange of rings was over, Sindhu thought of walking away and took a step ahead.
However, the priest standing beside her held her back and asked "Hey girl, where are you going? Don't you want to know the wedding date and time?"
"As if I care" Sindhu replied, revealing her true feelings.
