Chapter 2: Nekomura's Secrets
The village of Nekomura was a sanctuary of peace and beauty, nestled deep within a sprawling forest. As Megumi walked through its winding paths, her sharp ears twitched at the sounds of life all around her. The soft rustling of leaves, the purrs and meows of Catkin chatting amongst themselves, and the occasional splash of water from the nearby stream filled her senses. It was a far cry from the noise of Tokyo, and yet, it felt strangely comforting.
The black-furred leader, who introduced himself as Raiku, guided her through the village. His tall frame and confident stride exuded authority, and it was clear that the other villagers respected him deeply. Megumi followed closely, her golden eyes darting around to take in every detail.
As they walked, Megumi decided to test her newfound abilities. She focused her mind, activating the Copy Power. A translucent screen appeared before her eyes, filled with information about the Catkin around her.

Megumi blinked in surprise. The villagers' levels were relatively low, and their skills seemed simple, though perfectly suited to their peaceful lives. Then her gaze turned to Raiku.

Raiku's status stood out like a shining star compared to the others. His skills radiated strength and authority, a testament to his role as the village leader. Megumi felt a mix of admiration and relief. If someone like Raiku was in charge, the village seemed to be in good hands.
Raiku gestured toward a large wooden structure in the heart of the village. "This is our meeting hall," he explained. "It's where we gather to discuss matters of importance and celebrate festivals."
Megumi nodded, her curiosity growing. "Your village... it's beautiful. How long has it been here?"
Raiku smiled, a hint of pride in his expression. "For generations. The Catkin have always lived in harmony with the forest. We've built our lives around its rhythms, taking only what we need and giving back in return."
As they continued their walk, Raiku introduced her to various customs and traditions. Megumi learned that the Catkin revered the moon as a symbol of guidance and protection. Each month, they held a Moonlight Festival, where villagers would gather under the full moon to sing, dance, and share stories. She also discovered that the village had a deep connection to magic, with many Catkin possessing unique abilities tied to nature.
"And what about you?" Megumi asked, glancing up at Raiku. "You seem... different from the others."
Raiku chuckled softly. "As the village leader, it's my duty to protect our people and maintain the balance. I've been entrusted with a special ability passed down through generations: Shadowstep. It allows me to move unseen, blending into the darkness."
Megumi's mind raced. She couldn't help but wonder how her own ability, Copy Power, would fit into this world. Would it be a gift or a burden?
They arrived at a cozy hut near the edge of the village. "This will be your home for now," Raiku said, opening the door. Inside, the space was simple but welcoming, with a bed of soft furs, a small table, and shelves lined with jars of herbs and spices.
"Thank you," Megumi said, bowing slightly. "I... I don't know how I'll repay your kindness."
Raiku placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You don't need to. For now, rest and recover. Tomorrow, we'll see how you can contribute to our community."
As night fell, Megumi lay on the soft bed, staring up at the wooden ceiling. The events of the day played over in her mind, from her sudden death to her arrival in this strange, magical world. She didn't know what the future held, but one thing was certain: she would make the most of this second chance.
