*Ashwood, England, 1850*
The full moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the sleepy town of Ashwood. Emilia "Mia" Grey gazed out her bedroom window, feeling an inexplicable restlessness. It was as if the moon's call was beckoning her toward something unknown.
Mia's thoughts were interrupted by her mother's gentle voice. "Mia, dear, come downstairs. We need to discuss your father's...condition." Mia's heart sank. Her father, the town's esteemed doctor, had been acting strangely of late. His mood swings and erratic behavior had become increasingly worrisome.
As she descended the stairs, the creaking of the wooden steps beneath her feet seemed to echo through the silent house. The air was thick with tension, and Mia could sense that something was amiss. Her mother, Lady Grey, stood in the foyer, her eyes red-rimmed from lack of sleep.
"Mia, I've asked Dr. Finch to examine your father," Lady Grey said, her voice trembling. "Perhaps he can shed some light on...the situation." Mia's concern deepened. What was happening to her father? She had always been close to him, and seeing him like this was heartbreaking.
The sound of footsteps outside broke the silence. Mia's mother hurried to the door, opening it to reveal a tall, slender man with a kind face. "Ah, Dr. Finch, thank you for coming," Lady Grey said, stepping aside to let him in.
Dr. Finch's eyes locked onto Mia's, and he smiled warmly. "Of course, Lady Grey. I'll do everything I can to help." Mia felt a sense of relief wash over her. With Dr. Finch's expertise, perhaps they could uncover the cause of her father's strange behavior.
As Dr. Finch followed Lady Grey into the study, Mia trailed behind them, her mind racing with questions. What could be causing her father's condition? And what did Dr. Finch mean by "the situation"?
The study door creaked shut behind them, and Mia was left standing alone in the foyer. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she gazed up at the moon, now hidden behind a veil of clouds. The restlessness she had felt earlier returned, and Mia couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching her from the shadow's.
