Alarm ringing...
The shrill beeping shattered the tranquility of my dreams. Groaning, I turned over and slapped the snooze button.
As I opened my eyes, a cute, beautiful melody floated through my window. It echoed softly in my room-a bird perched on a branch, singing in harmony with its friend. What a beautiful way to start the day!
"Goodbye, Mom! I'm heading to school now." I grabbed my bag, glanced back, and smirked at my mom before turning to walk out the door.
The beautiful sunrise plus the fresh and relaxing breeze hitting my face. What a beautiful day, I thought as I walked along the street. It feels like I'm in a good mood today.
While walking, a thought struck me. Should I stop by Hanna's house? Going to school together like we did before. Or... never mind. I'll try.
When I arrived at Hanna's house, I peeked at her window to check if she was still home. But it seemed she had already left.
I feel disappointed, so I turn and leave. Suddenly, a familiar voice called my name-it was Aunt Amber waving and calling me.
I stepped and went towards Aunt Amber. "Tristan." She called me again. "Yes, Aunt Amber?" I responded. "Why are you here? Looking for Hanna?"
I froze. How did she know that I was looking for Hanna? It seemed's she learn to read others minds ? Whoa...
"Uh, yes, Aunt Amber," I replied respectfully. I have no choice; she already caught me.
"Sorry, dear, but she's already left a while ago. I don't know why she went to school so early."
"Oh... I see. Maybe she had something important to do. Thank you, Aunt Amber. I'll head to school now."
"Alright, take care!" She said with a smile on her face.
After a minutes...
I finally arrived at school. But I didn't expect to see her here so early.
My classroom is on the third floor, and climbing up there every weekday feels like a never-ending chore. But graduation is coming! Just a little more patience, and I'll finally escape this hellish stairway.
As I walked down the corridor, I saw a familiar figure standing in front of our classroom. It was her. My steps slowed as I stared. Why am I feeling so nervous? What is this?
I focused on her back until, in a fleeting moment, she turned her head to me. It was Hanna.
My heart raced. Why am I feeling this way? My heart skipped a bit as I saw her staring at me. It's not the first time I've felt this, but this one is definitely different.
"Oh, Tristan," she greeted me softly.
"Oh... hi."
"By the way, thank you for yesterday-for helping me with my groceries," she said with a smile on her face.
"No problem, it's natural," I replied, trying to sound calm, though my heart was pounding.
"Wait, did you two...?" Julia interrupted out of nowhere, her tone teasing.
"What do you mean?" I asked her confusedly.
"You know, did you two hang out yesterday?"
"Hang out? No. I just helped her with shopping-that's all."
"Oh... Did you go with her, or did she ask you to help?" She grinned mischievously but it seemed's she's teasing us.
"Uhm... n-" Before I could finish, our teacher arrived.
"The teacher's here!" Someone announced, saving me from further interrogation.
Our teacher was starting to discuss in front, but my mind was focusing on Hanna. Why I can't stop thinking about her. Is this loved?? I already confessed to her, but it seems she ignored it, but if she ignored or rejected me, why did she say it to me in the first place? Ugh... She's driving me crazy!
Break time...
I stood up, ready to head to the cafeteria. I was starving and needed to eat something immediately. Before leaving my classroom, I glanced around, hoping to spot Hanna, but she was nowhere to be found. Did she already go to the cafeteria?
While walking down the hallway, I was deeply thinking about what she wanted to say to me yesterday. Was she planning to reject me? Is our friendship over? Ugh... I'm overthinking. I'll do that later, I'm literally starving!
As I entered the cafeteria, I quickly bought food and scanned the room for an empty seat. That's when I saw her-Hanna-sitting beside someone familiar. I took a few more steps to see who it was. My stomach dropped. James?
Why is she sitting with him? I thought they broke up! So it wasn't true? Or maybe... But, why?
"Tristan, over here!" Hanna called, waving at me with a smile.
But I froze. Should I go over there? Or should I ignore her? What should I do?
Without realizing it, my feet automatically turned away, and I sat beside a random girl instead. Staring at my tray, I couldn't bring myself to eat. My appetite vanished, replaced by a heavy knot in my chest.
"Hello? Are you crying?" A soft, sweet voice asked from beside me.
I turned my head, quickly wiping away tears I didn't even realize had fallen. Was I crying? Why? I'm not even her boyfriend.
"No, I'm fine," I said, forcing a smile.
"It's okay to cry," she replied kindly. "Even boys need to let it out sometimes. But next time, you've got to overcome it, alright?" She gave me a comforting pat on the back and smiled.
I looked into her kind eyes and smiled back. "Let's eat?"
After class...
Hanna approached me. "Tristan, can we talk later?"
I wanted to ask her so badly: Why him? But I couldn't muster the confidence. Instead, I nodded. "Okay."
"I'll text you later." Then she left abruptly, leaving me alone once again.
At home...
"Mom, I'm back." I said with a smile on my face, but deep inside my heart was broken.
"Oh, welcome home. Are you hungry? There's food on the table."
"Thanks, but I'm not hungry. I just want to sleep." I headed to my room, sat on my bed, and stared at my phone.
Cling... A message notification. It was from Hanna: Can we meet at the park near the café?
I sighed, got ready, and headed to the park. When I arrived, I saw her sitting on a swing, looking around nervously. I walked over and sat on the swing beside her.
"What do you want?" I asked, meeting her gaze.
"Why did you walk away?" She asked softly.
"It's not your business," I snapped. "You wouldn't need to know why I did that."
"Are you angry with me? Just tell me, Tristan!" She said begging at me.
"I'm not angry!" I blurted out.
"Then why? Is it because of him?"
"YES! Because I like you, Hanna. And you know it." I said those words while looking directly into her eyes. I didn't even know why I said it-it just came out.
Her eyes widened in shock, frozen as if time itself had stopped. Her face was blushing even though it was shame to me I have no choice to confessed it again to her, to say how much I loved her since we first met, actually that first met was started during our childhood but she doesn't remember it anymore because of the car crash accident happened to her.
"H-How could you say that so confidently?" She stammered, her voice trembling with nervousness.
"Why wouldn't I? I've liked you since we first met. Do you remember when you bumped into me?"
"Y-Yes, I remember. But... how did you keep it a secret from me all this time?"
"Because back then, I didn't have the courage or confidence to tell you."
"Oh... I see. Actually-"
I interrupted her, unable to hold back my thoughts. "I have a question, and I want you to answer it honestly."
She hesitated, then nodded. "Okay..."
"Did you and James start dating again? And why did you choose him again?
She looked down, her silence heavier than any words could be. "Y- yes, we're dating again. I gave him an second chance to love me again."
"Oh..." My heart sank. "I see. Congratulations." I stood up at the swing. "I'll go now"
"Wait, Tristan!" she called after me. "We're still friends, right?"
"Sure..." I replied with a forced smile. "I'll go now."
"Wait!" She hold my jacket at the back, I shooked and look at her. "Can we walk home together? Since we live in the same neighborhood..."
I shook my head, my voice colder than I intended. "I have something to do. Call your boyfriend."
I turned and started walking, each step feeling heavier than the last. My chest tightened, and tears began streaming down my face before I could stop them. Why am I crying?
If she's happy with him, that's fine. I'm not going to push her to leave the one she loves. I'm just a fool-a crazy man who fell for someone who could never love me back.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice where I was going. My feet moved aimlessly, my vision blurred by tears. Suddenly, I realized I was standing in the middle of the road. I couldn't even hear the sounds of the car that beeping at me, I just realized after when I'm at the middle of the road.
And then- I don't know what happened to me. Everything turned black. It hurts...
