Twenty years ago, the world shattered.
It began with an event humanity now calls The Breaking. From the depths of every shadow, creatures we came to know as "Devils" emerged. Towering monstrosities, insidious demons, and abominations that defied reason erupted into our world, tearing through cities, countries, and lives without mercy. Humanity fought back—soldiers, warriors, and every trained hand willing to hold a weapon. But even with our might, ingenuity, and desperation, it wasn't enough. The Devils were too powerful, too unrelenting.
Just as hope began to falter, salvation came from an unlikely source. A phenomenon emerged—an agreement called the Devil Contract. Some discovered that they could forge pacts with the Devils themselves, gaining a fragment of their unholy power in exchange for something precious. The price was steep: pieces of their humanity, their sanity, or even their very lives. Those who dared to make these contracts became known as DevilBound.
The first DevilBound were humanity's last gamble. These brave souls, imbued with the strength of their infernal partners, waged war against the invading hordes. They paid the ultimate price, sacrificing themselves to seal the Devils away and bring an end to The Breaking.
But victory was not absolute.
In the aftermath, new horrors emerged—territories known as Devil Zones. These were twisted, otherworldly landscapes where Devils still roamed, contained but far from defeated. Though the Devils did not breach the boundaries of their zones, their presence was a constant reminder that the war was far from over. Humanity could not afford to rest.
In response, the Guilds were formed. These organizations brought together DevilBound from all walks of life—warriors, scholars, mercenaries, and adventurers. Their mission was clear: to enter the Devil Zones, hunt the creatures within, and close the zones before they could spread. The work was dangerous, and death was a constant companion, but it was necessary.
Now, years after The Breaking, the world holds its breath. The Guilds continue their work, battling Devils and preventing the zones from consuming what remains of humanity.
