Chapter 1 - A Second Chance

(What the hell…) Grey though lying in a pool of his own blood.

15 minutes earlier…

"That's the fifth interview today I'm hopeless," Grey sighed before taking another shot.

"Calm down man it's only been one day, don't lose hope."

"I know Mike but my parents said they would kick me out of the house if I don't find a job,"

"They always say things like that. Remember when they said they would kick you out if you didn't get 1300 on your SATs," Mike said taking a shot

"I remember I got a 1290 and they didn't make me food for a month. I had to buy my own groceries and cook myself," Grey sighed pouring another shot

"Okay so maybe they might kick you out but you still can't give up after the first day. You will find a job meant for you soon," Mike said patting Grey on the back

With a sigh Grey grabbed his shot glass and took another shot before standing up, slightly wobbling.

"Whatever you say, man. I'm going to head home for the night I have another interview in the morning," Grey sighed trying to walk away but almost falling

"Woah man you sure your good to walk home you look like shit," Mike said catching grey

"I will be fine you just make sure YOU get home okay, remember the last time we went drinking," Grey teased regaining his balance

"Don't remind me…just be careful don't want you ending up sleeping next to a dumpster," Mike sighed

"Yeah yeah," Grey said before walking out of the bar and making his way home.

10 minutes later…

"Maybe I should have saved some money a cab would be nice right about now," Grey said walking down an empty street

"Spare change…do you have anything to spare sir," a voice spoke from behind Grey

"Sorry man but I don't have any change on me," Grey sighed

"...You're lying," the voice responded with slight malice behind it

"What was that?"

"That suit of yours looks pretty expensive and that watch," the voice said stepping out of the shadow into the street lamp

Turning around to look at the man for the first time Grey sobered up and he saw a disheveled man holding a knife in one hand and a beer bottle in the other. With a a look of anger in his eyes the man began walking closer to Grey.

Seeing this Grey turned around and began running down the street to escape the man.

Even though he was sobered up mentally his body was still feeling the effects of the alcohol. After taking a few steps he tripped on a lifted tile.

"Shit!" Grey said reaching his hands out and barely catching himself on a wall

With a sigh, he was about to start running again when he felt a sharp cold piece of metal stab into his back.

"G-God damn it!" grey yelled falling to his knees

Before he could fully register that he had been stabbed the knife was pulled out of his back then he was stabbed again, again and again until he was lying on the floor with sharp pain filling his body and a coldness overtaking him.

(Why…I…I should have listened to Mike…) Grey thought as he coughed up blood

While lying in a pool of his own blood Grey slowly lost his consciousness and slipped away into the dark abyss.

"grey...grey...GREY!!! WAKE UP!" yelled a feminine voice

"w-what the hell?" grey asked with a weak voice

"Wake up, you can't sleep all day," the voice continued

Rubbing his eyes a blurry figure slowly started to come into view.

(what happened to me...I-I thought I died) Grey thought holding his head

Looking around he tried to make sense of his surroundings but only became more confused when he realized he was in a old wooden room instead of a hospital.

POV: First Person

(Where am I?)

While I was filled with confusion at my situation a small lifetime of memories began flooding my head, colliding and merging with my own.

"Are you just going to keep ignoring me?"

"...Sorry Ashia, I was zoned out," I replied before I realized

"Just hurry up and get ready, we are waiting for you before we can go," Ashia sighed walking towards the door

"yeah I'm coming now," I replied standing up

Watching Ashia leave I sat back down and tried to process everything that happened.

"What happened...First I was out drinking with Mike, and then the homeless man stabbed me...I died...that's right I died but why am I in this room and alive? No, what's important is where am I and why I'm in the body of this child," I said looking down at my body

[Host please allow me to explain everything] spoke a voice with no source

"Who was that?"

[Hello host my name is Pixel your personal A.I. assistant]

"...A.I assistant...Can you explain to me what happened?" I asked

[You had been killed in your previous life and were chosen as the next host, Currently you are in a different world from your own and have been placed in this body]

"...I see...why?"

[Because this body died at the same time as your passing]

"Okay, but why was I chosen, and why a different world?"

[The host was chosen by luck. Also the world was chosen randomly]

"So you're saying everything was merely coincidental?"

[To be blunt yes]

"Well, that's something that will be on my mind for a while. But is there something you need from me since you saved me?"

[No. The host has been given a second chance at life my job is to assist in any way possible]

"Okay, but since you're an A.I that means someone had to make you, right?" I asked

[I cannot revile that information to you at this time]

"I thought you would say that, well I better get ready, sitting here panicking won't change anything," I sighed standing up

[You're coping with this oddly well]

"I don't like to panic over things I can't change,"

[Noted]

"So, what else do you do," I asked putting on my shoes

[I can track the host's progress]

"What do you mean by my progress?"

[In this world there is a power system called leveling and the only way to check your level is with an adventures guild or a church. I allow you to check your progress at any time]

"So like a video game?"

[That would be a correct comparison]

"Alright, then can you show me my progress?"

"Level 1 I should have known," I said looking at my stats

Standing up I made my way out of the small house. Stepping into the light I saw the rest of the people from the body's memories. Ashia the oldest with long red hair matching eyes and a warm smile that held their family together. Soloman my twin brother who had black hair but the same gray-colored eyes. Gil was a ten-year-old boy with white hair and dark brown skin, who was quiet and stuck close to Ashia. Savanna is a fifteen-year-old girl who also has long white hair pale skin and blue eyes filled with passion and a quest for danger. Klaus the second oldest at sixteen with black hair and red eyes that looked down on everyone except his family who he was very protective over. Evangeline was a quiet 14-year-old girl who was as kind as Ashia and loved to read but had a fear of violence and blood. Last but not least was Harloke an overactive 16-year-old with short brown hair and green eyes and a free will that caused him to be the most problematic but the one with the biggest heart.

"Come on Grey you took way too long we are going to be late," Ashia sighed

"Sorry sorry I was trying to find my shoes," I replied

"Well let's go the boss will get mad if we are late," Harloke added

Hearing that I felt a tinge of anger that rose for a second.

(Seems like the kid's emotions are still strong)

(Maybe some part of the old Grey is still in here) I thought walking behind the group.
