Chapter 5 - 5

As the group of adventurers continued their journey through the dense forest, following the faint tracks left by mischievous goblins, they stumbled upon an unusual trail. It was different from the goblin tracks they had been following, leading them deeper into the heart of the woods.

Sebastian crouched down, examining the ground closely. A few broken leaves and a small smear of mud disturbed the carpet of fallen leaves. These weren't the rough, haphazard tracks of goblins. They were more… delicate. "This trail's different," he murmured, running a finger along a mark in the dirt. "It's not goblins."

Roland approached, his brow furrowed. "What do you see, Sebastian?"

"Look. These prints are smaller, pointier. And look at these broken branches. It doesn't look like goblin work. It's too clean."

Markus and Liam joined them, studying the trail cautiously. Markus narrowed his eyes. "Looks like someone else has been through here."

Liam shrugged. "Could be anything. An animal, a hunter…"

"Or something more," Roland interrupted, a thoughtful look on his face. "This trail leads deeper into the forest. It could lead us to something interesting." A spark of adventure flickered in his eyes.

They followed the trail, venturing into an even denser, darker part of the forest. The trees loomed like twisted giants, their branches intertwining to form a dark canopy that barely let the sunlight through. The air grew heavier and more humid, and the silence intensified, broken only by the crunch of their boots on the fallen leaves.

Finally, they reached a clearing dominated by an ancient oak. Its trunk, thick as a tower, was covered in moss and lichen, and its branches stretched towards the sky like gnarled arms. At the base of the tree, half-hidden beneath a tangle of roots and foliage, they discovered a weathered stone slab. The stone, a dark gray and covered in moss, looked like it had been there for centuries. A barely visible inscription, etched into the eroded surface, intrigued them.

"There it is," Markus exclaimed, a glint of anticipation in his eyes. Not greed, but the thrill of a warrior facing a new challenge. "This stone slab could be the entrance to a dungeon."

Sebastian, who had never heard of such places, frowned. "A dungeon?"

Roland approached the slab, examining it closely. "A dungeon… they're ancient places, underground labyrinths full of danger and treasure. Places where adventurers test their courage." He ran his fingers over the inscription, trying to decipher it. "Often filled with traps, monsters… and riches."

Liam joined him, brushing away some moss from the slab. "And the deeper you go, the more dangerous they become."

Sebastian observed the slab with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. The thought of venturing into such a place sent a shiver down his spine. Are we really going to go in there? he thought.

Roland turned to the group, a determined smile on his face. "Well, what do you say? Shall we go in?"

Markus shrugged. "Don't see why not. That's what we're adventurers for, right?"

Liam nodded, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Always time for a little danger."

Sebastian hesitated for a moment. The idea of facing monsters and traps didn't appeal to him. But curiosity and the desire to explore the unknown pushed him to agree. "I suppose… I'm in," he said with a sigh.

Roland grinned. "Good man. Then let's see what secrets this place holds." Carefully, he began to move the roots and foliage that concealed the slab, revealing a dark opening beneath it.
